    sqlite> select count(*) from vf5_c where char = 'leifei' and category not like '%rising%';
    177
    sqlite> select count(*) from vf5_c where char = 'leifei' and grd < -11 and category not like '%rising%';
    33

1 in 5 of his moves are punishable? And that doesnt even include the moves that are listed as better than -12, but are technically worse, because he's stuck in stance and cant guard?

Yes, theres a load of misinformation here. But it's coming from you.

    </div></div>

Who the fuck are you to tell me what i saw?

So what you needed help from him? For what what uphill battle was you fighting? You should'nt take Vf so serious you can catch a stroke bro.
Fuck Lei Fei and Whoever uses him all of a sudden.

    Have a good day.

I tried a bit Lei Fei (like to 4th dan in quest mode and against some friends in online). I understood.
I understood how I got beaten so easily when I was a beginner. I saw how little effort it took to make big damage. I saw how many stagger, crumple or sabaki moves he had. Actually this is a weird sensation to play a such powerful character that you can handle so fast.
    So, imho:
    strenghts:
    -many moves
    -too many staggers
    -too many crumples
-good sabakis (that lead to stagger or crumple, lol)
-hard to read if not played in the PPP mash way (sweeps from all stances, powerful mids, stance cancel+throw etc ...)
    -easy inputs and easy combos

    weaknesses:
    well ...
    -can't guard in stances
    -can't move in stances

    that's it
I won't play him anymore, I feel really lame to beat some of my online partners with Lei Fei.

Christ. I feel like we should get some sort of a sticky made with all the common things people bitch about with Lei and how to beat him.

He's not as good as so many of you are making him out to be. He has plenty of weak points. All you have to do is take just a little bit of time to learn some of his common moves/stances and counters to his more abusable tactics and you're fine.

Hell, ask the people I usually play with. When I first picked up Lei I basically just whored out his nastier moves and they had no answers for them. After a little while, they learned how to deal with what I was doing and I was forced to change my play style because of that.

I guarantee that I or plenty of other people could tell anyone exactly why they're getting hit in certain situations. Seriously, I completely understand where you're all coming from. I've had the same frustrating issues myself with other characters (namely Shun - screw you FallingEdge! ). There's always a reason, and there's always a solution. You just have to be willing to keep an open mind and look for it.

In fact I handle Lei Fei relatively well when playing against him. I discovered his strenght when I played him. i'm not bitching about him, but he really has too many good moves with awesome properties.

Not really much to do with the game anymore, that's been talked about and it's well known that you can evade against Lei Fei very effectively FTW.

I won't beat a dead horse. I just hate when someone is WRONG ON THE INTERNET! j/k LOL...

    Strange this is this:

(And again, I use Lei Fei)
When looking for matches online, just about every charactar I think: d***, I hate fighting him he always gives me trouble. The only charactars I feel I have a definite advantage over is Shun and Lei Fei, I think Lei is the easiest charactar in the game for me to beat, and i don't like to evade against him b/c i too find he follows my evades most of the time--tho i probly just need to pause before attacking. For the record, a couple of his combos seem to reset the axis on every hit, like the p+k, p,p. and the downforward k+g, k+g headstand thing, evading don't work so well against that. I'll break it out against heavy evaders just for that reason. (quest or online)

Its hard for me to give you advice on it. Basically I know whats coming next. I know what moves will follow what moves. My advice to you, but this wouldnt work against me, is when he goes PPP then he has decisions, most people prefer to duck punch to try and stop it, some poeple (tho i cant seem to) successfully dodge at this point (i have the same problem evading him that you do) at this point, i'll usually just wait til the three punches are thrown and go straight into ppp myself, b/c you can interrupt him after those. 9/10 lei's this is effective against.
But again, my success comes from an intimate knowledge of his moveset.
The other aspect here is, that most Lei vs. Lei matches are an offensive extravaganza, its a race to see who can overwhelm who quicker, and i usually win that race. (this mindset is probably why the best lei fei's own me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Its the same deal playing against a super aggresive akira, they always get me, with that continues bullrush strings.
If you had the time (which i don't or i would be much better at the game) it wouldn't hurt to go thru his moves in dojo and then play for a day or two with the black book strategies handy. if you had a better idea of what lei wants to do, you'd have a bettter idea of what you don't want him to do. But agian, thats awfully time consuming.

    who do you use btw

Jacky and Wolf. I had a Session Cidkid a while ago before i sent my 360 in so i kinda lost the newfound knowledge i learned. If you use Lei Fei send me a Friend request or game invite so we could spar sometime.

Well, I advice you to try Akira online. But you will fail a lot more than w/ lei fei. I'm fairly new to the game and I play Akira for one month, but I think i'm more efficient with Lei Fei lol.
Anyway, I don't like much playing Lei so, I'm looking for a sub char but I don't really know who yet.

    smb Well-Known Member

I'm not a big fan of Akiri's style, plus some of those moves are too hard to do with my d pad standard xbox 360 controller. I would like to go shun for my sub, but to be honest with work and all my other obligations i don't have time for a sub, i'm pushing it to slip in an hour, hour and a half i do--to the detriment of my sleep schedule.
but I am sure the learning curve for Akira is really tough, or at least the learning curve to doing his moves consistently, after you got his moves down he's a badA powerhouse

Well, not yet. I can do most of his moves with consistancy (except mostly true DLC and buffered dblpalm, so I lose 5-10 dmg per combo) but this is not so easy against high level players.
versus beginners or intermediate players with crappy defense, yes you just rip thru them like a knife in butter, but as soon as your opponent evades a lot, blocks high a lot and throw escape often, it becomes a lot harder. But that's why I like this char, you have to be on the top to win.

i love how easy it is to tell the difference in types of people just by reading posts. Some people when they lose a fight analyze what they did wrong try to work the bad things out and keep the good. I call those people "smart". while some people when they lose cry foul because you low punched more than they liked or evaded their main combo. i call those people idiots if u are still crying about lei fei after you have been told numerous times about the most efficient way to fight him then u are an idiot. nothing personal just saying. im decent at vf5 and i can win pretty consistently. i could use vanessa or wolf or goh but i dont cuz lei fei just looks cool and his different outfits are cool. C lei looks like gohan with swept back hair. aoi counters evrything, wolf and jeffrey only need to hit 2 times to kill u, akira will stagger you the whole fight. jacky will run the whole fight while kicking the shit out of ur ankle and has probably the best mid punch ive seen. lion never stands up to fight like a man and will pull u closer while juggling u. lau will punch you 627 times before u hit the ground, Sarah will kick you before you see her move pai is just too well rounded for any one strategy to work. Shun has THE best sabaki in the game and his juggle combo ender is f****** ridiculous. kage's 10 ft toss combo is stupid and u get flip kicked after everything, Vanessa hits hard as hell and has mad on hit throws. The point is everyones got strengths and weaknesses. Lei fei has 0 counters. 0!! so i have to sabaki or i get hit by shit like gohs on hit or block throw from his kick. he has one sabaki that he can do from normal stance. the rest are from stances and are the only defense he has while in them. without them i would get rocked everytime i switched stances. i think im done. yeah im done. wait no. SDS overfiend feel free to send me a friend request ill spar with you. and serioscat u forgot one teensy weensy lil weakness Lei Fei has. 99% of his moves are evaded to his front. I dont know maybe you wouldnt consider that a weakness but i do. oh and most of his fast moves are linear single hand punches which i hope i dont need to explain the inherent weakness with those. Anyways people grow a pair and learn to fight stop crying about lei fei.

hey menace, we've played a few times (i think i even stole one from you, but i could be wrong) mind if i add you and play some player matches. I always like to fight other lei's (higher ranked) to get a feel for what they are consistently doing that i may not be using enough, or at all perhaps for that matter.
And i agree, it gets old people acting like its marginalized to do it with lei

Lei Fei is a noob killer.

If you're getting killed by Lei Fei frequently then that would make you a noob.

Lei is good but once you learn:
    - Dodging
    - Struggling
    - Fuzzy

It takes an enormous amount of effort to win with him when Lei's opponent is competent at the above.

His combo damage is halved if you simply struggled quickly out of his large range of staggers, flops and crumbles.

His advantage moves only land frequently on noobs that don't dodge. On successful dodging of said advantage attacks, Lei is often in a stance and ripe for a MC.

VF5 is largely a balanced game. To label a particular character strong/weak simply means you have much to learn about the game. IE on how to vs Lei.

Any move that does damage is a good move. If you know the move is headed your way yet you fail to move out of the way then the noob would be the one getting hit.

Theres no such thing as a cheap move. Only a lack of technique to deal with the threat at hand.

If you use pad then your "struggling" potential is severely handicapped, hence it may be time to buy a joystick. Not just to vs Lei but to "struggle" to avoid damage. If you cannot struggle or require me to explain what "struggle" or "dodge" then I strongly suggest more practice and research on those two techniques.

If you can consistently disrupt him lei fei becomes quite harmless. The better ones make this task that much harder but even they can be disrupted if you know what to look for. I do this with a pad just fine and do it consistently and it isn't very hard either. A well timed dodge or jab will continually frustrate any noob lei fei player quickly and make them quit in no time. Learning when to dodge and jab is the key even high level lei fei will fall prey to it but they adjust to it like any good player, noob lei feis will not. That is the difference in a good lei fei or noob lei fei mainly even though they may use many of the same moves.

Does anyone achieve the 10 straight wins against 10th dan fighters with Lei? I almost did it, i still have trouble against Lau or Pai

I'm not here to complain I just think lei is harder to evade than other characters i fight against, But its occasionally my fault that when I see a string happening I know I should block or evade but my reaction time sucks.

Every other character is easy to evade against just lei freakin fei lol

I have fought against 1 or 2 great lei's that i feel proud to get my ass handed to, but when i lose to those that button mash I just get so frustrated because its annoying that I'm not doing anything to avoid it.
