If you know they are not trained against traditional styles it seems like a pretty good strategical choice to use them. Anything your opponent isn't used to or can frustrate them gives you an advantage, however large or small.

I did notice that Shamrock didn't try go to the ground to persistently, but he did try. I remember Cung Le sprawling at least a couple of shoots/shots. Also, I think Shamrock stood up partly because he said he was going to before the fight. I know he claimed before the match, in the pre-fight hype, he said he was going to stand up and throw with Cung Le. Once you've publicly committed to something, it's actual a pretty strong motivator. Psychologically, people are much more likely to do what they say when they've committed to it in public, to others.

I recall correctly a clinch body lock takedown, but no single or double shot attempts, or Cung Lee sprawling once...
I give Machida much more props cause he is obviously a well rounded fighter, Cung Lee? the jury is out..
Anyways wtf why is no one discussing the great card? Penn's dismantaling of Sherk was superb.

Lyoto Machida was setting up some beautiful combinations that the likes of Tito, mostly a ground & pound fighter, was just not able to handle. Machida has it all, highs, mids and lows and combines it all. Remember when he did what looked a little like Brad's 1KK? Lol, I know, I know, I'm comparing what a real fighter did with a VF character, haha, but seriously, Machida hit Tito with a kick to the shins, hopped in the air and almost immediately threw a kick upstairs. Beautifully setup and executed combinations that when most other fighters try to do them they would get taken down in a heartbeat. Couple that with THE best defense in the UFC right now and you've got a guy who's going to be really hard to give a loss to.

I'm surprised nobody's talking about the fight of the night, Goran Reljic vs Wilson Gouveia. These guys just went back and forth. Both very good fighters, Goran seemed to be the smartest of the two but what a debut, huh? This guy is Cro Cop's student and it was easy to see with those devastating left kicks. Almost all of his attacks came from the left but once he rounds out his game better he's more than likely going to be another force in MMA.
Awesome night of fights, one of my fave fight cards that the UFC has put out in a while.

Man, you know, just to talk some shit - anybody else disappointed with Sokoju vs Nakamora. I wanted to see someone's head get slammed through the mat.

It's weird this ufc was all about the striking apart from that new dude's (forgot name) sweet armbar ,
anyone see the press conference after with Dana and Tito arguing again, apparently Tito got escorted out /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Here is my take on Machida: He is effective in his gameplan because he knows he does not have K.O power and he also has very good wrestling and Jits. Lets not forget that while he may have a Karate background and continues in that style, he trains boxing, has a Muay Thai coach, a BJJ coach, and a wrestling coach. There are no more 1 style fighters anymore.

I was REALLY impressed with Reljic! He has some awesome power! He has very long limbs too, he's going to be a tough fighter in the future...

Damn that EliteXC card on CBS was kinda disappointing. The first two fights were over in a minute, and weren't that exciting as far as quick knockouts go. The women's fight was good, and the title fight got stopped early because of a finger to the eye, which was turning out to be a great fight until that point.

Then the Kimbo fight. He was able to not LOSE on the ground, but it was sloppy as hell on both fronts. Basically he won because the other dude had a freakish ass cauliflower ear that he busted open, lol.

Kimbo will lose his next fight, I'm calling it now without even knowing who he's up against.

Also, motherfucking BOBBY LASHLEY has signed on for some MMA promoter lolololol.

What the fuck AFL. I see bobby as a young Randleman (maybe). He's very explosive. Wish it was some other place then fucking AFL though.

Highlight was James Thompson slapping the ref after the unfair stoppage, and his ear exploding /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif event was a joke lool,
this is not what Elitexc wanted for prime time on CBS, made MMA look a joke. The crowd booing the best fight (smith and lawler), during action, on the main card was hilarious.

I didn't get to see the Torres fight but i heard it was good. The Pulver and Faber fight was really good too.

I wasn't surprised that it lasted 5 rounds but was a little surprised that Pulver didn't go after Faber enough. I guess he respected Faber's counter punches.

I think Pulver didn't go after Faber more because he realized how good Faber really is. I think Pulver thought he was going to go into the cage and bully Faber around with his new-found size and strength advantage. Jens probably realized pretty quickly that it wasn't going to be an easy fight.

Faber is so lightning fast and well trained he really just outclassed Jens Pulver. Comparing their abilities, Faber is better than Pulver in almost every aspect of the fight game. His speed and angles were very impressive. He just overwhelmed Pulver with his offensive skill.

Which fight were you watching? Faber had the edge on the ground but not so much in the stand up game. Jens nearly knocked faber out in round 2 as well. Faber basically crashes in on a counterpunch right and ducks his head down. Jens picked up on that really quick and had an uppercut ready for him most the time in that situation. By the 3rd, Faber didnt do it as much but it still came out time to time. Don't get me wrong, Faber is good but the fight with Jens showed that if he fought some guys like Kid, or BJ, who Faber actually trained with for this fight, he would have some trouble.

Lol @ Jason Lambert going for the single leg takedown attempt on referee Herb Dean. Nice job by Luiz Cane. I could see him and Swick going at it. First round k.o.

And a wtf @ Brandon Vera getting mad at the ref for stopping the fight. The guy was almost in the freaking fetal position getting pounded and still argues with the ref /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif Watchout, Vera might be the next Ortiz XD

My favorite match of the night: Hughes vs Alves. Awesome flying knee to end it. My favorite bc I dislike Hughes... a lot... cocky, arrogant bastard X)

Cheers to Bisping, I really like that guy. Transitions, standup, ground and pound, he seems to be at the top of his game right now.
