He definitely may be the best or one of the best strikers in MMA. I'd put shogun and machida up there too, as well as manhoef,arlovski,fedor,kid yamamato and a few others. im just saying the UFC would have people believe he is among the best strikers in the world when he has never competed against top competition in K1, boxing or any kind of muay thai promotion. And yes, I realize he has competed in muay thai and boxing, against people who are not even near the elite level. Brazil does not have many accomplished muay thai fighters. Him versus guys like Tyrone Spong or Clifton Brown would be a sad sight.

Honestly, as a more then competent striker, how is it possible to not look good against guys like tony fryklund and Leben.

 

that's the issue really - any of this pound for pound stuff comes with qualifications even if the hype machines don't allow for it.

 

I would say Anderson has some of the best Muay Thai for mma striking

I could watch this again and again. you only need to see up to the obvious reason this was posted in the MMA thread. this should happen to all the merry pranksters out there.

So, who do you guys have to win for tonight's fights?

I got Shogun, Kimbo, and Koscheck... even though I reeeally don't like Koscheck. I get the feeling that Koscheck is a bigtime douche.
Like when he fought Anthony Johnson, he was gaming Johnson to hit him with the knees while he was getting up and then he would put a knee on the ground. The ref didn't penalize Koscheck for gaming and the knees didn't even hit him in the face. Koscheck was losing that fight up until that moment, that's when he got in Johnson's head and threw off his game. I hope to see a rematch of those two sometime in the future.

I love both fighters. Lets just get that out of the way, L0L.

It's hard for me to imagine Shogun being able to do much different on the feet, I see small improvements but nothing huge. I think he may be a little more aggressive with kicks but he can't be too aggressive because it will open him up to a Machida counter. I think he might try to clinch and punish Lyoto against the fence a bit more this time.

Machida on the other hand I believe has a greater chance of mixing things up more on the feet this time around. Also, if he's able to defend the kicks this time around it will enable him to land more of his own shots. He can also mix in his strikes with his VERY good take-downs, remember Machida has some wicked Karate/Sumo takedowns/trips. I can imagine him landing a similar take-down as he did on Thiago Silva, landing a few elbows and marking his face up, getting back to the feet and landing some strikes.
