I went back and watched the fight again (sober this time) and the judges decision looked a lot better with beer goggles (but everything looks better with beer goggles).
This isn't new though, there have always been bad calls in sports period but in fights unless the challenger knocks out or totally and completely dominates the champion, the judges usually lean in favor of the champ. Except in the Forrest VS Rampage fight. For some reason the judges leaned towards Forrest [IMG]

This vid is a remake of an old vid I posted a while ago but I just had to put I'm sharing it again cuz of comment posted on it. Yes, it's that funny:

In case you guys don't see it, the comment fail was posted by wyteboyhithard and it goes like this: "suck your momas penis like i did".
.... lmfao at the massive comeback insult fail XD

    Shogun won that fight.

The first three rounds were close, the last two went to Shogun no doubt.

sooooo.....the first three are close without established winner and the final two are Shoguns BUT it is obvious that Shogun won?

I would have scored it 48-47 for Shogun as well. Damn close fight with a ton of calculated strikes, but in the end Shogun put up the better performance.

Joe Rogan made the comment during the fight that he feels the scoring system is flawed in MMA. Like its something that certain fighters can take advantage of rather than giving the best fight possible. What do you guys think of this?

I think the scoring system is far too rigid. It shouldnt be about secret math behind the scenes, it should be from the same perspective as they audience watching. Fighters should get points for what they do right, not how many times they do something.

yeah, i pretty much say that fight was a draw and we'll get a diffinitive winner after the rematch that's inevitably next on both guy's plates.

watching it live, i had the fight 48-47 in a razor thin dec. for shogun. after watching the replay, i had it 48-47 for machida. rounds 1-3 were very close. 3 was easily machida's with the flury and takedown defense. 4 was easily shogun's with the leg and body kicks/knees. 1 was a legit toss up and i would have scored it 9-9 or 10-10 whichever is allowed for a draw round. 2, i gave to machida through his counters, the damaging knees and his defense of the takedown(s). round 5 i gave to shogun.

any way you slice it, it was a very very close fight and i would have loved if it came out a legit draw so nobody could really bitch too much...but the result is the same anyways and preferable as it absolutely guarantees an immediate rematch. hopefully we'll have a legit winner and champion with one guy ending the fight. i think people were way more oppinionated towards shogun because he was the aggressor, but machida countered well against most of shogun's attacks, defended every takedown attempt, and was only really tagged with the leg kicks consistently...and machida was eluding those fairly efficiently for a good portion of the fight, as well.

everyone expected machida to dominate the fight...but he didn't and i think that makes it look like shogun did more than he actually did. i can see how the judges scored the fight and don't have any problems with it, personally. finish the fight and this debate doesn't even happen.

i've checked many different sites and read many different takes on this fight. the only consistency has been that round 3 went to machida with his control and offensive flurry. most concede that shogun won round 5. rounds 1, 2, and 4 are almost a toss up depending on who you talk to (although most have shogun winning 4, but one of the three judges even gave that round to machida on the scorecards) and what they based their oppinions on. if that doesn't tell you how legitimately close this fight was, i don't know what will. having machida lose the belt on such a razor thin decision would leave a worse taste in my mouth than machida winning in 'controversial' fashion and making the inevitable immediate rematch a forgone conclusion. it's the best of both worlds, people. how can you not love it?

It's a fight and should be scored as such.
What would have happened had the fight continued?
At that rate it was more likely Shogun would have won, he inflicted more practical damage and should have been awarded the win.

This is a combat sport not synchronised dancing where people get awarded points for good technique (stuffed takedowns etc), what counts should be what works i.e damage inflicted, that was plain to see.

    Not what I said.

I was just trying to find a way to rationalize why the judges gave the nod to Lyoto. IMO Shogun took at least 4 rounds. Still the first three were close and very competitive.

I hate it when every UFC episode teases at the end whether Kimbo is going to fight again or not, like yesterdays episode for example said one of the guys goes to hospital, "will Kimbo fight again?" The waiting is killing me I just want to know already [IMG]

No, I know Kimbo can win I have faith in him, he's my favorite heavyweight in that show. The first match that fat ass just sat on his arm crucifix and throwing baby punches, in a rematch I know Kimbo will know what to do, and if he's faces someone else well, he's got a second chance and he won't give it up he has determination.

Edit: To sum it up, I "want" Kimbo to win it all but I know in reality that there's good chances that he won't, just saying he's my fav and I want him to win that's all.

um...here's the thing. he had absolutely no response to Big County's tactic. none. at all. nothing. if they hadn't been creampuff punches Kimbo would have be cut to the bone.

I like Kimbo but even his stand up seems to have degraded now that he's not fighting people he found on the internet that have backyards.

Yeah I know what you mean, but Kimbo's not good against wrestlers y'know? If both of them were just standing and punching each other I think Kimbo would have gotten the best of him, but yeah it does look like Kimbo's slipping a bit, I hope he can make some sort of come-back.
