Yeah I remember reading the interview when Igor retired citing that as one of the main key reasons for retirement, wouldn't be nice to see him back (just for $) unless he truly feels he can make a good run of it again.

 

I don't think Igor should return, he looked really lethargic in his last two outings. Also think he has screws or something like that in his arm and stated there really is no reason to fight again.

Maybe he needs money?

 

I think wearing a gi is banned because you can use it to choke your opponent out. Gi chokes are pretty powerful from what I know too. Makes sense so the fight is as even as can be...

 

There not any more dangerous than any other choke, to be honest if both parties are savvy to the ground game the Gi works as a disadvantage in some cases.
I suppose the reason just come down to equal playing field...

 

There was absolutely NO reason given to why gi's where banned.

 

from just about every fight i had ever seen involving gi's it ends up looking like a hinderance for the person wearing the gi. I'm sure it isn't always this way. And admittedly i haven't seen that many fight involving gi's since it was pretty rare even when it was allowed. Or at least it seems it was pretty rare in the UFC.

Funny thought: Rampage jackson fighting in a Gi. lol

 

Gracie Has gotton many chokes off using the other guys gi as well as his own. I think there tring to maintain that tapout image.

Rampage first ufc fight was in a black Gi. Where he elbow the this poor fellow in the face multiple times.

watch fights that include Yoshida and Akiyama.
A recent one to look for was Akiyama against Manhoef, where the gi helped Akiyama since Melvin's ground game is no where near as good, plus I suppose it would cushion some of the impact of the strikes.
Also Aoki wears these special no gi trousers to get an extra bit of traction, wonder if this would be allowed in the ufc for ground specialists...
