Decent event, but not quite as good for me as UFC99

The GSP fight: To me it looked like GSP wasn't capitalizing on a lot of submission opportunities. Maybe someone wanted him to win by KO or something. He just kept giving up armlocks and chokes. Whatever though, maybe he was just playing it safe. The scorecard came back 50-25!!! Have you ever seen a scorecard spread like that in a title fight?

Brock Sampson Lesnar: The new Tank Abbot. Except brock actually knows how to fight.

I was not glad that Belcher was absolutely robbed by a decision in a match that he clearly dominated. It was a joke, and it was bullshit.

Who knows how the judges score MMA as of now. That's the main problem with the sport that really needs to be clarified.
In terms of take downs and control of where the fight went Akiyama did best. Belcher seemed to inflict the most damage though (especially that groin shot :X).
It was good for UFC market growth in Asia that he won though.
Apparently one of the judges who scored it highly in Sexyama's favour was a female... says it all [IMG]

Lesnar's antics are blown out of proportion, it's not like we haven't seen things like this before (Tyson was way worse didn't harm boxing any), the main transgression was just the slamming of the sponsors.

Belcher was not robbed in the least... it was close man. simple as that. Could have gone either way. Akiyama took the first 2 in my opinion with belcher taking the 3rd.

Belcher was not robbed. Wanderlei was robbed when he fought Franklin, Rampage was robbed when he fought Forrest, Hammill was robbed when he fought Bisping but Belcher vs Akiyama wasn't a robbery just a fight that was so close that it could have gone either way.

Akiyama landed more strikes every round and took him down like three times. Sexyama won.

you know it's funny, I thought Bisping might have the tools to deal with Henderson (even though I really dig Hendo) but after watching him retreat STRAIGHT and then circle to the endlessly cocked right hand I thought, "bisping's fucked". That was a bad bad, fight for Bisping and a fantastic 'I need to unload' opportunity for Henderson. Total fucking shazam!

Loved the GSP versus Alves fight. I was dissapointed he couldn't finish him but it was enough to see him shut Alves down at every turn. GSP is seriously so fantastic to watch every fight.

Mir versus Lesnar was sad. I don't hate Lesnar, I hate what the fights turn into. It's exciting for a bit, it's amazing to watch someone that huge be as explosive as he can be but then the fights ultimately degrade to him school yarding to a win. it's like being bullied in the 4th grade by the kid who's been left back 5 times. I really thought Mir would have a better gameplan. he looked in shape and very calm but ultimately he played the game that Lesnar wins at.

the limit of skill intersects directly with the size of lesnar (and wrestling skill, I admit). I hear people shouting for Fedor to avenge MMA but I think it's a bad match up.

Belcher versus Akiyama was disappointing as well. I was hoping to see his greasing ass go down but that throw in the third round sealed the deal. gotta love the back roll to safety and cage assisted superman punch though

Belcher plays VF. TR and wall-attack leave no doubt!

I found it intriguing. A fighter of Lesnar's size, strength and skill taking part in a combat sport doesn't come around often, enjoy it for what it is. It's almost comic book esque at times lol [IMG] It's only a good thing for MMA I feel, it will only push people to raise their level that much higher.

Fedor vs Lesnar would be interesting, the key would be if Fedor could blitz him on the feet and hurt him?

Regarding Akiyama, now with the Gi off, in the cage, infront of a USA audience I think he made a good account of himself. Belcher really needed to pound those legs more for the win [IMG]

On a sidenote, is there a reason why the athlectic commision disallows the wearing of gi's inside the octagon?
I know the footwear (wrestling shoes)were banned due to the extra traction and possible extra power inflicted by head shots. Can't think what danger the gi poses if tied up (to prevent flying into eyes) correctly though? It's a valid tactic for the grappler to use against the striker or someone more physically dominant, be nice to see that extra dimension used in USA MMA.

oh I totally appreciate the puzzle that Lesnar represents. I just hate watching skilled people fall before it. I really wish someone would take the Gordian Knot approach and just cut him in half.

Akiyama fought well. I honestly thought Belcher would keep punishing that leg. oh well.

Lesnar was a NCAA DI champion. The only thing above that in wrestling is the Olympics. He VERY effectively used a Turk ride and a half nelson to control Mir and beat the living piss out of him. People who can't see the skill in his execution of his game plan are just stuck in la la land.
As for all his comments after wards, shit, I just laughed and got entertained. You do realize he is someone who rarely does interviews, barely speaks out about anything. He did his job and did it really well. He improved more in 18 months than some people do in 5 years. Good for Brock.

I thought Belcher was robbed. I just watched the fight again with Catherine. I've changed my mind. There was so much flash in the 3rd round with the techroll and wall attack (not to mention Rogan stating that Belcher had the fight if he could hold it together) that I was overly influenced. Belcher clearly lost Round 1 and didn't win Round 2. He had Round 3 and then not so much.

Oh, and fuck UFC for giving Holly Madison extra (actually ANY) screen time. The other girls were the ones who were robbed.

If Brock doesn't fight Fedor next, here's my wishlist of fighters that I hope he does fight (in no particular order):

Edit: I don't know what I was thinking, lol, I almost forgot the main reason why I made this post: BOBBY LASHLEY!
I think that he's the perfect match up for Brock... but... don't see Dana going for Bobby [IMG]
Sucks, it could be a real Clash of the Titans.

-Mark Hunt (284lbs)
-Cro Cop
-Dan Bobish (330lbs, let's see how Brock likes to be outweighed lol)
-Alistair Overeem (253lbs)
-Aleksander Emilianenko (not cuz he can take Brock but because once he loses to Brock, Fedor will want to avenge his brother >:-D )
Melvin Manhoef (just because)

But I'll prob have to settle for a rematch with Randy.
I woulda mentioned Igor Vovchanchyn but he retired last year [IMG]

Like I said, I don't hate Lesnar and I certainly appreciate his wrestling skill. honestly, I'd rather not deal with his antics and the drooling fan base he brings with him from his WWE days. For a sport that is trying to get legitimacy, and has class athletes defining what MMA is NOT, Brock is a very large step backwards. I'm sure his "bad boy" status will make for some extra attention and ticket sales but if the anonymous bar crowd I watched 100 with is any indication we're tumbling into spectacle - I'd rather watch fights.

I did like how on two occasions (interview and post interview) Dana basically waved his "fuck you" card at Brock (read: continuing relationship with the UFC) and got him to behave but man, should it take that much?

anyway, here's two interesting articles on the large fellow.
