TO be honest Ring and Cage both bring there cons and pro's to the table. If you saw the Sokoudjou fight it was a prime example of one of the rings cons with his hand caught in the ropes, resets breaks rhythm and also gives breathers. The cage has it's flaws also, I say keep both, like tennis it's good to have variety of playing environments.
Barriers are going to make a difference unless they fight in true unlimited space which just isn't realistic unless you drop them in the middle of some wilderness, in fact you could say barriers are more realistic in some respect.

I agree. honestly, how is a cage any less gimmicky than a roped off fighting area outside of your pre-conceptions? Cage lends a lot of different strategies and obstacles. I like the cage. and when I see a fight set in a "ring" I dig that too. I also like seeing the same fighter in the different situations and seeing how they deal with it, especially when they're in a ground situation.

bad luck on the loss, dean. looks like you almost had a heel hook though, too bad you couldn't cinch it. and dude, fatten up.

The cage is a LOT safer than the ring. You can't fall out, no getting stuck in the ropes, etc. I have seen some nasty shit happen because of a ring.

What kind of nasty shit? I've never seen anyone seriously injured in a ring despite being thrown clear threw the ropes and onto the concrete floor (vintage bas rutten vs frank shamrock pancrase battle, they both crawled back in) , Rampage getting kneed into oblivion and falling facefirst through the ropes etc. ALOT better then getting your skull slammed into a metal cage IMO.

The cage is coated with rubber and a lot more forgiving then you think. At amateur events I've seen people thrown out, getting your head stuck and the neck getting choked on...all sorts of stuff. The cage keeps everything inside.

I really enjoy Machida fights..... I think hes one of the most skilled fighters in the UFC. he gets hated on a ton for feeling out his opponents and* being defensive though.

Damn that dude was on point tonight. More so than usual. That dude makes me want to go train right now and it's 1am.
The discipline, the focus, the work ethic, the sheer determination... man, ain't nobody that's got as much heart as this guy. I thought that BJ Penn would be able to match him in this area but nope. Nobody wanted a win tonight as bad as GSP wanted it.

Machida is so damn slick, damn. I got nothing against the guy, I think he def got skills but I would hate to fight a guy that elusive. I'd end up wanting to pick something up to throw at him XD Great fight though.
I hope it is Evans vs Rashad next. The battle of the elusives, lol. I just hope it ain't just them dancing around each other /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif</div></div></div>

you mean Evans vs Machida ;P Machida is too dam accurate and tactical, I see him taking this.
Yeah BJ got pwned, physically he was outmatched which neutralised his skill set. These days you need the whole package which = GSP
Clay Guida was impressive too as was Jon jones, nice fights.</div></div></div>

Hows' about Jon Jones??? I'm seriously seeing him as a future champion. He did some of the coolest shit of all time. Those Greco-Roman slams were just off the chain!!! Then he did Brad's spinning elbow and landed it flush for a knock down!

The double under-hooks slam/suplex was so sick I just said, "WHAT?!?" That may have been the best use of "wrestling" moves I've ever seen in an MMA match, that guy was just amazing. The way he used Bonnar's momentum against him for those slams was deadly!

Clay Guida and Kim both fought like octopi. You just CAN'T get them off you. I think the Korean guy, Kim, is gonna do big things as well. Jon Jones is the dude I can't wait to see next.

Machida- what can I say... GGS!!! His style is butter. He was just clocking him with counter reverse punches and classic Karate shit, just awesome to watch. I can't even put into words how much I LOVE his infusion of traditional martial arts FTW!

Glad to see BJ Penn get thrashed. He's better at talking shit than fighting at Welter-Weight, I'm willing to say that much. I kept thinking about him say the, "He's gonna think I'm god... etc" line he said in the pre-fight interview, as he was getting his face bloodied by GSP. I guess he didn't quite live up to "god status"...

It has nothing do with his loss, but I guess he has something to whine about now. He was crushed, simple as that.

meh he lost plain and simple. If he wanted extra traction he should have worn knee and/or foot brace, to be honest he was beaten in every aspect of that fight including the attitude bit.

He lost because he gave up at least 30 lbs to a war machine. Great fight, but he needs to stay in his weight class.

gah, it is a complete shame about the Vaseline complaint. I honestly don't think it would have changed the fight at all but it would have been better for that particular stain to not be there at all.

BJ could have remained in Welterweight and did better but I still maintain that he is lazy just because he is so naturally talented.

Awesome fight for Machida, I hope it takes care of his critics. shame Dana still isn't going to give him a title shot. Guess he hasn't earned it like Brock Lesnar did.

    Lol, dam that was good.

I typed a bunch of stuff but f'd around n deleted it somehow hah, so to make it somewhat short.

BJ called GSP a bitch for tapping out due to strikes in one of his earlier fights. This fight BJ quits between rounds because of...strikes lol, watch ya mouth.

Clay straight lost to Diaz, jaw dropped when they announced Clay the winner, same with that Hong ?? Kim (forgot his name) He won his fight too. Judges be making some wild decisions sometimes.

Machida dam! KO'd dude in the last second of the round, ref was all looking at him like "ay man the rounds over you gonna get up?" lol. Nah it's really not that funny when someone gets ko'd like that (happens though when fighting) but it's a good thing it happend at the end cause Machida was bout to drop some more on him.

I think Clay controlled the fight and thus got the win, he controlled Diaz more than he controlled him and had more dominant positions, the damage inflicted by strikes I think were slightly edged by Diaz though, it was close.

The Paryisan fight was close too but I think Kim faded in rounds 2 and 3 after dominating round 1, I think Karo just nicked 2+3 to get the win but yeah tough call either way.

Dana White does make sense on occasion "don't leave it to the judges"

I HATE the gangsta Diaz brothers, but Nate is worse than Nick.
