well, not many of us are going to spend the extra $300+ too get evo!, if I had the money thats what I think is ideal, but a mod chip is all I can afford!

I'm a little confused as to what I'm going to need to do to get Evo. Can anyone tell me *exactly* what I'll need to get/do in order to be able to play it on my ver. 5 North American PS2 (which is utterly un-modded)...?

Looks like the mod chip is the way im going. Someone told me that the Messiah 2 PRO is best way to go. Anyone have experience with Mod chips and know if this one is the best route to go? Also does it come with instructions on how to install it or do I have to search around?

The new Messiah is definitely the way to go if you want a chip in your machine. Be sure to have it installed by a professional, because a casually experienced solderer will not be able to put it in. There are some very small connections and several spots that will hose your machine if improperly connected.

I should be getting mine this Sat. Man I can't wait. I'm going to have to practice 24/7 for TiT. I've only played the Evo arcade like 10 times or so. Oh thanks replicant for the feedback.

Gameshark Verison 3 swap trick problems

"What sort of swap are you trying to do? Flip top lid swap with Swap Magic? Knife Swap with a Gameshark ? Or a swap with a Gameshark and a Neokey?"

QUESTION: I Just got evo with a gameshark version 3, and can't seem to get the Knife-Swap trick to work... is this possible with version 3?? Or do I need to get an older version 2?

    Please respond asap, thanks.

I don't think GS ver 3 will work with swap like that. You should get one of them Magic Swap Discs.

Just FYI for those looking to swap with Gameshark, etc. I am using a Gameshark 2 Version 2 with an SCPH-30001 PS2. I just start the game without codes and manually release the CD tray with a knife, etc. Works great.

    cheers,

If you have one of the newer PS2's then it might not work. I have a SCPH-39001 PS2 and it didn't work for me, so I just got it chipped.

    Good deal on ps2fliptop.com

Gotta say I'm impressed... I bought the combo from ps2fliptop.com and this basically does all the work for you as far as the swap trick goes.

Swap Magic basically boots the system so you can play import/backup, then you flip open the lid (you replace your ps2 top with one that has the ps1 style lid) and put in the game you wanna play... and that's it.

Works great for my EVO... all I gotta do now is learn Japanese... /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not to beat a dead horse, but are you booting an _original_ import evo with the fliptop / swap magic combo? I've been getting mixed messages about whether a dvd-r is needed . . .

You can boot originals or dvd-r's just fine with it.

I was a little confused at first about it all, but I took the plunge and got the fliptop... it's an easy installation if you aren't stupid (like me!)

I got it initially to play King of Colosseum, but VF4EVO works great on it as well (the actual import- you don't have to make a copy of the disc to play it on the fliptop!)

hi...i'm kind of new to this so i hope i don't sound like a complete idiot. anyways, i was wondering if the case top you spoke of would work for a japanese PS2? there are some games where i absolutely cannot read the kanji that is displayed and sometimes i wish i could play the american version instead. right now i'm playing the japanese version of VF4 evo, and i'm in quest mode. there is a particular quest that i don't know how to complete because the instructions for it are in kanji. you don't happen to know what the very last quest for the club sega bay area is do you? its the quest with a star next to it that appears when all the other quests for that area are completed. if anyone else knows, i would really appreciate it. i have been stuck for close to an hour trying to finish it.

    thanx!

Post on http://www.ps2ownz.com in the forum to see if the flip-top is compatible with your specific model PS2.

The last quest at CSBA is "During a (definite throw condition), throw the opponent 5 times."
