Hopefully you check the boards again before you leave Tokyo, Eric.

You could really help us out if you can purchase some VF cards. We have had alot of new faces the past few weeks and they would like cards. Also the regulars are running low on their 500 match limit.

Buy as much as you can. An ideal count would be about 10. We will definetly reimburse you the money when you get back.

Hope your having fun and return safely. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll see what I can do. Last 24 hrs here so you just barely caught me. No promises though, not sure if I can get to an arcade. Right, apparently Sega Shinjuku is THE Arcade. Lo and behold, Shou and another StL player, Dave (Shun) were there, both who live here.

Got some good games in... still playing pretty scrubby but my "unconventional" (translate to crap) Pai play has eked out a few wins. Can't complain. Catch up with you boys stateside.

Oh right... message from Shou to Andy: "You Suck". I'm just the messenger.

Never thought I'd be joining this thread...

It's great to see NYC has such a vibrant VF scene.

I know I don't have the time to commit to it this semester, but I am very interested in actually getting decent at this game and playing competitively. Any other intermediate players interested? Part of it is just raw hours playing both people much better than you and at your own level. I'd like to start up times, whether at GTN or at my place (23rd and Park) or whereever for mid-level players to play seriously against each other.

    Best regards,

    -Jason

I'm always down for more VF. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

At one point we had people come by GTN on Tuesdays as well but that fizzled out a couple of months ago.

    NYC Sunday Team Battle Result

First of all, I'd like to THANK Rodney for organizing the event. And EVERYONE showed up, what a pleasant surprise. The tournament started late at 3pm, but we managed to finish by 5pm or so. And we all went out to drink & food afterwards. BBQ ribs were tasty BUT stiff, exactly as Shag and Smurf warned me on.

Hopefully, we can keep the interests up and continue this bi-weekly event!

Good job with the results and pics Shota but one problem.

I dubbed our team Windowlicker. Its named after song by Aphex Twin. Its an inside joke we'd have to fill you up on. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The alternative was Team Milkman (also after a song by Aphex Twin) /versus/images/graemlins/indifferent.gif

EXCELLENT WORK SHOTA! I wanted to post something earlier, but I have been really busy. This week I had to do some major overtime at work(15+).

Anyways, I would like to thank each and every person that came out to the event. I personally had a blast. In my heart I really hope this continues to happen and grow. The teams seemed to be really balanced which should make for some interesting matches in the future. For some reason though, it seemed like people were a little nervous. I know I was in a few of my matches. We are the same people who play together each week, but you throw the word TOURNAMENT in their and everyone gets a little shaky.

For our next tourny I am tryin to recruit more players. The more the merry right? It seems like I might be able to add 3 more people to the roster. I guess it might be 4 with the inclusion of Jason Cha who has just moved to NYC. Hello Jason! I didn't realized that the new Pai player on Thursday was the famous Jason Cha from VF3 days. We have never met so I didn't know. Next Thursday then!

Also I have one complaint and would like to turn that into a request. During the tournament everyone seems a little distant. What I mean by that is that their was not enough of cheering or just useless chattering. I was trying to stir up some friendly team rivalry with Cruz, but it didn't work. lol Sorry Cruz! So next time, I would like to ask if everyone could make a little more noise to make things even more fun. For example, lets borrow the famous Japanese chant. Lau hits with standing single palm and their is usually a love "AAAAYYY", followed by "AAY AAY AAAYYY" Each "AAYY" represent a hit from the follow up combo that he does. Everyone we have something special here so lets go all out with no regrets.

Hey man, nice to meet you - I'm totally trying to catch up on all these long-timers that I've always known about but haven't met since I've been out of the game for so long.

Hey if anyone's ever in the area or just feeling like playing, give me a shout (PM me for my cell #). I live one subway stop away from GTN and go to school at NYU, so I am always down for a few quick games.

I found two old Evo cards I had from Japan - I don't think they've got more than 10 battles on them as I really didn't play at all there, but I hear they'll work with the Final Tuned machine?

Absolutely!! We win or lose by our teams!! We only have a week to prepare for the next tournament! Stronger players (i.e., you) have got to help out their weaker teammates (i.e., me!)!! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm back and severely jet lagged. Will try to stop by today and if I have any control over it, 5pm-ish. Then again, it's almost 9am and I'm just going to sleep. I have 10 cards. Hope to catch a few people if it isn't too early. Peace

If I were you, I'd get some serious rest. No need to rush out. I'll show up regardless, I want to get some practice in.

Do try to keep Thursday and Sunday free will ya?

    Playing on Tuesdays

I dropped by GTN today to get some time on the machine after classes. Was looking forward to playing, but when I turned on the machine - doh, Error 24.

I felt like such a member of the NYC crew at that moment. Anyway, didn't want to fiddle with it so shut it off and headed home.

    Best,

I did the same thing today too Jason. Got error message every time and left frustrated. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

A few months ago, I would give the machine a whack a few times and it would come on, but as of recently no such luck.

    Re: Some photos

Thanks for doing all the work to post the photos. Nice of you to do that. I like having faces to go with screen names. Brings the community closer for me. Someday I'll return the favor with some SoCal photos.

I've met some of the people from NYC - the ones who took the trip to SoCal to play at Evo2K3 and 2K4. I can place some names with a few of the faces, but not the rest. I read that you named the members of each team and captioned each photo with the team name. The name list doesn't match the order of the people in the photos as far as I can tell. I know it's more work - but if you could label the people in the photos or list them in order, that would be very cool, indeed.
