Hi. If anyone sees Tetsuo, could you tell him that Hiro will be at GTN on Tuesday and Wednesday? I would like to see him before my wedding but I can not get in touch with him since he lives a normad life these days.

    Thank you,

    Hiro

Tetsuo normally shows up at GTN on Tuesday so there is a good chance you will see him then.

I'll try making it this Tuesday, If I don't see you Hiro then congratulations.

On another topic, I want to put together a little something to do live recordings of our matches.

Heres what I am thinking, we need to get something that will record PIP (Picture in Picture) so we can get player and crowd reactions. I think it adds a whole new angle to the videos and generally people like to watch videos with the crowd behind it.

We have 2 ways to do this,

    1) a PC with a capture card, which would make the entire editing process much much simpler

    or

    2) getting a DVD recorder that has a PIP function.

For capturing video we need a scan line converter around $40-100.

We also need a pair of CCD or CMOS security cameras designed for low light use. The little small ones are around $30 each on ebay and an A/B switch to go from camera 1 to camera 2.

I saw a capture card around $30 that has PIP that would work fine. If we can get some people to donate parts I think going the PC route could be possible. We need a case, powersupply, extra video card etc.

I thought this might be a nice project to do since we may/maynot get version B for a little bit.

why don't you guys just use something like premiere or aftereffect and encode a dvd quality vid mpeg4 with the PIP effect, it's much easier than buying a new dvd recorder.

Just set up two cameras, then time sync it. You'll have the two raw footages, and then you can do with them whatever you like.

Two camera's and time sync it....

I'm not sure you know what you're talking about in terms of difficulty.

We would have to encode 1 stream of in game footage as MP4, WMV etc. then record 2 raw streams encode those as MP4, WMV etv. then use premiere or something similar to merge all 3 into a single video and of course edit and sync the camera footage to the game footage. To get a DVD we would then have to create VOB files and the DVD menu structure.

All of the above as opposed to a DVD recorder with dual tuners that does PIP, encodes the footage and pops out a DVD in near realtime.

    Re: GTN update FT(Fun Times)

What I've outline doesn't take as many steps as you say, and it gives better control over your footages with hardware that you already have. I guess if you want to spend more money and give up control and use default template type output from the dvd recorder, then my method would not be what you want.

    Just trying to help....

In case you still want to know: start the cameras and reset the timer after you started recording, so when you import the footages, you just match up the time so you don't have to manually sync it. With aftereffect or premiere, you can output to dvd video format. It would take less than 20 mouse clicks to merge the videos and control the size, etc.... The only time consuming part would be encoding them. For menus, just use some generic dvd maker software that you can probably download from free off the internet.

So what I suggested is just a matter of more time, but safer and gives you more control.

Otherwise it's putting down a bunch of money and try to get it in one go...

    Re: GTN update FT(Fun Times)

20 mouse clicks? I'd like to see that. It's one thing to say something like that and another thing to try and make a clip any longer than 5 min.

    To put it concisely,

The NYG3 3 part DVD took approximately 210 hours (4 weeks) to edit and burn; about 70 hours per dvd.

A typical 5 minute clip that contains more than 1 match takes 30-60 min to edit and encode. This is when you know exactly where the matches you want are located; if not add another hour of finding and editing the entry/exit points of the macthes.

    Cost?

You mentioned capturing the camera's as raw footage. So you would need 2 VCR's at the bare minimum to record the camera action, unless you wire up 2 DV cameras with DV tapes.

At the end you would have to do 1:1 capture and encoding. So 2 hours of camera footage with 2 cameras would take 4 hours to capture and convert.

The alternative is to run 3 PCI capture cards at the same time to grab and encode footage in realtime.

So 2 VCR's or 3 PCI capture cards.

Thanks for the suggestions but one choice is obviously far more complex and costly than the other.

Andy, are you the only person with a computer in NYC? Come on man... the word is DELEGATE:

    Say it with me now...

    The right word is realistic.

    RE-A-LIS-TIC...

    repeat after me...

    RE-A-LIS-TIC...

    good job now.

Why do you feel the need to make a side comment that is just as silly as sriders.

Move more than 1 computer to GTN? Use other peoples computers to edit footage? You've just added another 1 or 2 layers of complexity to capping some footage.

I'm quite happy that people like to contribute in our thread, but instead of words like this, how about donating a computer to GTN for us?
