I think the characters could be kept still, just do a revamped version of them to make them more gritty and appealing to the casual mass...

Think of all the batman movies that were garbage, and then think of how good it got when Batman Begins was released... Or even better just compare DMC 1 and 2 to DMC 3... Huge difference, and more appeal...

    ...What does this even mean?

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with the characters guys. If casuals are really so concerned about the way the characters look, than they'll play the game, get decent and buy the customizations to change the way they look anyway. If not, then they're probably not the people that genuinely want to play the game to begin with.

Truesonic, I can't believe you actually said they should replace the cast with new people to attract another crowd. I'm seriously aware that VF needs attention, but there's a difference between appealing to people and completely selling out.

I dont think im purely 'casual' player, and characters looks actually do matter to me. Its secondary to how the characters playstyle feels, but it still matters. Just saying. I always get annoyed when people try to express this by 'either/or'. You either care about the looks and are casual or you dont and youre a pro. Everything matters, guys.

They matter to me too, but not so much they dictate whether or not I play the game.

If they actually do matter so much; that it keeps someone from playing than I just don't know what to say.

And I never said anything about casuals only caring about looks, and those don't are pros. That's not what I said at all.

Even simpler terms: Don't replace the original characters, just make them more appealing... Is that more understandable???

How would ytou make them more appealing?

In regards to a character being understandable and relatable, I think anyone who says they can relate more to say, Jin Kazama than any of the VF cast is a liar and a fruit.

As far as making characters more appealing goes, more costumes and items would suffice for me... A complete overhaul of character design is probably what others might want... That isn't to say that it will happen, because the characters' appearances have been set in stone imo... Only a few minor differences have occurred throughout the series (i.e.- Kage's alternate costume is completely different in vf4 than it is in vf2)... It would be kinda cool if the outfits in vf3 made a comeback...

VF needs a story mode badly. I love the characters I play, but only because I made them look cool. I want their goals and dreams to have an impact on the overall story. for instance, Akira and Kage have both won...why the hell do most people not know this?

Everyone needs a rival complete with fight before fighting Dural. For instance, Jeffery gets to fight the Devil fish (omg spoiler), Kage and Akira go at it. Wolf vs El Blaze etc.

And bring back my god damned Hoodie without the sleeves for goh. out first B and D were completely horrible and I don't even touch them.

Also...pick a main character thats easy for everyone to play but hard to master. Akira isn't a good poster boy, simply because trying to teach Down Diagnal K+G into >P into P+K to someone new to the game is like getting teeth pulled.

And do something with the whole 5 years of fishing but haven't caught the damn thing Jeffry. Maybe replace him with a son or something.

They could call him The Little Merman.

"(...)about a young merman willing to give up his life in the sea and his identity as a merman to gain a human soul and the love of a human father."

    "Bangooooooo!"

If you think Akira's DLC is hard now, try doing it back when it was [3][K]+[G][6][P][4][6][6][P]+[K]-- and try doing that as a combo finisher [IMG]. Honestly that's not even the move ppl have trouble with- its his knee [K]+[G]![G] that gives people trouble...

I don't see nothing wrong with Jeffry's story... Every fighting game has a goofy side story regardless of how "serious" the game seems to be...

That is still the full DLC input in vanilla 5.

    In R it was changed to [3] [K] [+] [G] [P] [4] [6] [6] [P] [+] [K]

It can be done both ways now, or rather it was made easier in vf5... In VF3/4, there was only one way to do the DLC, which was the input I posted in the earlier post...

Yeah you can do the weaker version or the full DLC.

They made AS3 easier to do as well IIRC.

[2][K]+[G][K][6][P] is the new AS3 input but you can still do it the old way.

The second hit of [6][6][P]+[K],[P] had a strict window in FT.

SPoD timing gets less restrictive with each iteration too.

One that cracks me up is Lau's [3][K][P][P] string which was [3][K][6][P][4][6][P] back in VF3.

You guys need to understand that Jeffry's quest for the Satan Shark is metaphorical. Demons haunt each of us.

I dunno Sanjuro. I remember reading the story bits in the manuals. It didn't seem very metaphorical at all.

Some form of story is always a good idea. People are more likely to stick with something if they can form some sort of emotional attachment to it. Story lines and rivalrys are a good way to do this.

And in the anime too jeffry was looking for that shark, his dream was to catch it.

Yeah if Sega pushed that rivalry gimmick, it might just attract more people to it... I mean most of the characters have rivals anyway (Wolf/El Blaze, Akira/Jean, Jacky/Sarah, Brad/Aoi, etc). Some characters have multiple rivals I believe like Akira and Wolf.

As far as the story thing goes, how long have people been asking for a more in depth story from Sega, and the only thing we get is extra sentences in the game manual??? Not trying to be negative, but while it does sound like a good idea, I won't bet on seeing it in the next VF iteration... Quest mode is more likely to get beefed up...

    Isn't Jean's rival Lion? And Akira's Kage?

Akira's wolf since vf2 (from the end of vf1). About jeans i read somewhere he knows lion but i didn't read anything about his rival.
Oh and don't forget Lau and Pai as Rivals.
