    1. Does it have to be CGI?

    2. Play DOA3, then you'll see how story and cutscenes can add to a game.

I was referring to DoA4 and yah that is CGI, if you're asking if they have to use CGI if they add cutscenes to VF then no, of course they don't.

    I don't remember DoA3 now, it's all a blur after 2.

Blazblue is getting a 30 hour console exclusive story mode. A mode that has no impact on arcade or versus mode.

So if people want the game as it should be played, versus style, then they get it just like the arcade version. But if people really want to play a fighting game for a story mode then they also can. Win for both types of gamers.

No need for VF to not have a story mode though Quest is superior to anything else ever offered in fighting games. If you want to sell copies of VF, story modes, CGI, and other lame and mindless gimmicks are the way to go. As long as they don't interfere with core versus and arcade game play and they keep the excellent Quest mode no one here should be bothered.

It boggles my mind that there are people on a VF board that actually play DoA, but don't play Tekken or SC as an alternative.

That's like saying that you regularly eat Fillet Mignon, but whenever you feel like you fancy something different, you would prefer to eat worm feces instead of a decent grilled steak.

To stay on topic: VF needs a beefed up story and cutscenes. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously does not have any children / younger siblings - especially the ones that play video games and have them on their birthday/santa list.

I think adding a story mode wouldn't hurt the game at all. Now as far as DOA's cutscenes those are just for well... fan service. And VF has a excellent story that's surprisingly well put together, it's just not presented in game. Compare VF's more realistic approach to story telling compared to Tekken or DOA and see what I mean. Every character either loses or has good reason to be there.

As far as a whole good vs evil thing goes, VF is lacking in the villain department. Only villains VF has are Goh, Jean, Lei Fei, Brad (To the women of VF he kinda is a villain), El Blaze (In wrestling terms I'd say he's a heel). And let's not forget Sarah who was once under control of J6, an "Evil Sarah" if you will.

As far as story connections go we have each character who is looking or after someone.

Akira - seeks to gain strength and seems to have developed a rivalry with Wolf and Kage (maybe Jean?)

Aoi - Was defeated in VF4 because Brad was hitting on her and everyone else in the tournament. She entered the tournament again to see him again for reasons unknown? (love maybe?)

Brad - Enters again when he see's a girls name he didn't meet at the last tournament (Eileen) so he enters to meet her. This one is particularly funny because I don't think he knows how young Eileen is.

Eileen - See's Pai at a demonstration and want's nothing more to meet her.

El Blaze - Wants to defeat Wolf and become invincible beyond all imagination.

Goh - Was supposed to assassinate people but failed in VF4 and seems to have made rivals with Jacky when Jacky beat him in VF5. Hence why Jean was thrown into the mix to cover up for Goh's failures.

Jacky - Still looking for his sister and wants to defeat J6 so he and his sister can finally have some peace. Is said to have defeated Goh in Vanilla 5.

Jeffry - Devil shark has been kidnapped and Jeffry says "Give Me Back that Filet-O-Fish...give me that fish!!!"

Kage - His mother was the original Dural and he hasn't been able to turn her back to normal or find her. He was supposed to have won VF4 tourny even with Dural's interuption.

That's just half the cast too, if they went out of their way to actually put some of these into rival scenes, rival opening animations/quotes we'd have some character added to these... characters.

Tekken's been getting worse after 4.

    SC's gotten way too complacent.

DOA4's shit. DOA3.0 is shit. DOA3.1 and 3.2 are tick, though. Just goes to show that Team Ninja can actually make a good fighting game if they wanted to. Shit, I'm more surprised that DOA3's a better "all-rounder" fighting game than most out there.

If I was to add cutscenes, I'd have a opening for each character, then have a final stage one against each character's specific rival, then a unique win pose followed by a special cutscene at the end of that match where Dural interrupts the fight, then you face her. If you beat her, you get your character's ending. If you fail, you just get the credits which is what usually happens in VF.

Not that it matters anyway, as Sega probably wouldn't add this stuff. Would be a nice touch though.

    After 4?

I don't wish to derail this thread, but every person who plays Tekken seriously (or at least, I would guess most of the people who know anything about Tekken that post on Zaibatsu) would rather forget 4 ever happened. It was basically "Jin of Iron Fist Tournament 4".

5 was an attempt to return to TTT roots, and 6 was an attempt to take the series in a new direction. Both were fatally flawed with regards to balance, however, the updates (DR and BR) have pretty much sorted out the balance issues.

In fact... I find it both odd and disturbing that when a game is not balanced, the boards are alive with complaints and cries of shoddy work. Once the balance issues have been largely dealt with (e.g. Nerfing of Bob in 6BR), the boards suddenly quiet out considerably.

I guess nobody really wants to work hard to get better. They simply prefer to whine and point the finger at some reason to excuse their shoddy play.

Maybe that's what VF needs more than a story. Broke gameplay.[/sarcasm]

I won't comment on the latest SC as I haven't found the time to play it. I've played every SC since "Soul Edge", and frankly, the SC team basically lost the gameplay plot after 2. I would hope that the new one is a return to form.

Back to topic: If anyone wants to write a story for VF, write a main plot, not just individual stories. Individual stories are for bonus characters.

    You are being sarcastic, right?

Even when I was a kid, I thought Jeffrey's story was the dumbest I've heard. Ever.

Actually I beg to differ, I think his story is fun, it's not serious but it's humerus and I'm not being sarcastic here, your entitled to your own opinion though so w/e. I don't even know why I'm posting here I guess it's just one more post to get to Carpal Tunnel /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yes, T4 is shit. But apart from not bothering to fix up T4's issues, T5's flawed attempt to go back to TTT roots was one of the worst decisions Namco made for the series.

And T6 isn't an attempt to take the series to a new direction, since it's T5 - good evasion + B!, which only makes the game very shallow.

    And that's not VF.

Really? Not only was it a better game then T4, but it's also a massive success in japanese arcades and it hasn't waned down since for Tekken.

Compared to VF? There's obviously no contest. I never said Tekken had better gameplay than VF anyway. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

However, 5DR and 6BR are the closest any 3D fighting game has got to VF (in terms of balance, character depth, et al). That's a damn good achievement no matter how you put it.

I dont play DOA. But your analogy sucks. The games have extremely little to do with each other. I think all 3 of the alternatives suck donkey balls. There.
