    Yep, that sounds perfect.

It won't if Sega doesn't preserve the fanbase.

Story modes are great! But Tekken's wasn't, it's nonsense!

Stories help sell shit, just like customizing, just like OooOo new item win pose! Really not having some fan service is stupid of Sega in my opinion.

Having some fan service might sell more to a growing number of gamers but I don't see a real issue with the story of quest mode it simplifies everything. (You as the average gamer looking to play other CPU controlled gamers to be the best gamer in the city). I don't think it needs a real story mode personally

i'm not a real fan of story mode, but i agree with everything thats been said above. if it helps it gain wide spread appeal, i'm all for it.

Entwining story mode with quest could be interesting. Much as one of the fight nights a few years back tried to do, it'd be cool if they gave you a rival who mirrored your progress throughout your advancement up the ranks, through the "arcades."

they could even combine the tutorial into this "story" mode. "unlocking" new "secret" skills as you went. (skills that are always there, but they teach you like its something new and exciting.) From Basics such as at the end of the first arcade--marked by a tournament--they teach you how to fuzzy!! And then you fight your rival at the end of the tourney, and low and behold he fuzzies alot, and reacts very poorly to your fuzzies.

2nd arcade, 2nd tourney, crouch fuzzy. then TEs, and the ETE(G)s. and on and on. Basically teaching you advanced defensive techniques as the game goes on. They could do the same thing with max damage combos, and/or character specific canned combos.

oh yeah, and let me customize my charactars more and more, and add a create-a-fighter options [IMG]

I like that some of the AI in quest mode keep using certain moves a nd strings.

There's a lau that does nothing but PPP2K and Denkai's Jacky uses Iageri all the fucking time.

They could integrate a Story in arcade mode (intros, rivalry, outros etc.)...They definitely need to pimp up the presentation of the quest mode.4 example with real pictures (vids) of that exciting cities Tokyo,Osaka...and the most famous arcades.Include real tournaments like SBO and so.Have bios,pictures,...of the real jp players that are already included so u really feel like u are playing amongst these guys.Could attract new players to get into the competetive fighting scene 4 real.Especially them with a predilection 4 japanese culture.A good dojo mode is a must. Most new dudes dont dig the internet 4 stuff like combos and advanced techniques first.Things like survival mode time attack dont hurt as well.More online modes 4 sure.

All the other fighting modes from 4 evo would boost the interest, especially the hyper fighting mode... Make them unlockable or something to boost the replay value. And the more you play, the more you unlock mode-wise and story-wise.

Actually I really don't care if VF ever gets a story mode because Jpnese fighting game story mode plots are all f'ing retarded, if you think about it.

What the F does a fighting tournament have to do with villains wanting to take over the world? Terrorist organizations? Ancient ninja feuds? Mafia-esque corporations (well ok this one has a tiny basis IRL)?

Why can't a fighting tournament just be a fighting tournament, with the "identification" emphasis on the individual fighters rather than some lame cartoon plot?

Erase J6 from existence and just make a fictional fighting tournament akin to the earliest UFCs. Cutscenes should make the player feel closer to his character by showing their "real life" motivations and situations, i.e. showing them as humans with lives. Akira training in the mountains and living an austere life... Kage visiting his mom (cuz J6 doesn't exist thank god)... Wolf doing a Brock Lesnar and wanting to show that he's not a "fake fighter", etc etc etc.

As an example of a "fighting game" story done right, watch the anime Air Master. No stupid SPECTRE-like organization trying to take over the world by throwing a fighting tournament. The fighting tournament is there because there are awesome fighters who want to be the best there is, period.

And the end boss is the best fighter who has ever existed, but -gasp- he's not here to destroy/conquer the world???!

I agree that they could remove J6 and Dural and instead put something new and interesting into the storyline. Without J6 the characters would be free to do what they wanted and you could tie them up with anything AM2 wanted. And preferably something that made sense.

VF doesn't really focus on the story at all... I mean there was some empasis on it in the earlier iterations of VF, but it seems that they're more concerned about the player being the best in VF. 4Evo kinda started that transition, even though not awhole lot was given in terms of a story other than what was on the instruction manual...

The intro vids sometimes display a friendship or a rivalry (Wolf/Akira, Lau/Pai, etc)...

I believe "Wing Chun" will be at VF6.

Lau and Pai already use elements of Wing Chun in their "mixed kung fu" style. It is most evident in their forward-momentum PPP with power coming from the elbows. But their big heavy circular kicks are more reminiscent of northern styles.

Okay ACTUAL EVENTS are pretty much impossible for VF series to have "OH GOD AKIRA IS ACTUALLY A DEMON, BUT SO IS GOH SO WE HAVE TO3@%@%" u get the picture, VF just doesn't have any real events WITHIN game (in the manuals they do strangely but that doesn't really count). SOOO I have an idea, how about BACKSTORY ARCs instead WITHOUT having to reset everything.
All the characters either have massive unknowns about there past or interesting things about there past. For example, Shun has had students in the past and other events related to that. What if we put a story about Shun and some emotional events that are fundamental to his life. Student dies against a rival master, he vows to become stronger to protect his students etc (it could be told really well too, with moments addressing the students issues etc, it doesn't just have to be shallow filler).

Now this could be implemented in two ways.
    1. You have the characters actually fight there past enemies and go through there past in game, and dress up the in game characters different and call them different names and have them represent the characters in there past. For example Shun's rival master could be akira in a different costume,
    or
    2. As they climb the ranks of the current tournament, after every win you get a part of the story until you finish.

This way newcomers would ACTUALLY care about the characters more, they won't just be empty shells that we barely know about.

Every character could have a pretty great backstory. I mean you could do a whole arc, another example story: "Kid gets bullied for being fat, so joins sumo, then when mixed martial arts fighting tournaments start sumo is looked down upon and Taka fights for his dojo's respect which is going bankrupt etc." these are just abridged examples, I really think you could illicit some emotions and make a memorable story out of the character's past just needs a good writer.

But this could probably only work for one or two games, since a character can only have so much backstory... but atleast one game with some good stories would be nice.

I am ambivalent about "cinematic/dramatic life stories." Because why does every single fighter have to have some sob story fit for TV, y'know? Why can't they just WANT to fight?

In terms of becoming attached to the character, I don't think having some sob story is the way to do it; rather it's simply seeing the chara in a different light.

For example, if Akira's intro is simply him getting mentally psyched before the tournament match. Or if Blaze's intro is him talking s**t UFC-interview style (with extended *good* voice acting, in Spanish would be best). It doesn't tell you anything new about their life stories, but you get a sense of them as actual people.

You know why? J6 is faceless. Its just a name. Compare this to SF where you have Bison as the big bad forcibly recruiting fighters and brainwashing them, and using them to commit terrorist acts. In tekken you have various Mishimas taking the throne as the big bad one at a time (first it was Heihachi, then Kazuya, now Jin). The other games also have the bad guys as playable characters. VF, ok, has Goh and Jean, but the real bosses stay hidden. It also doesnt help that Ive never quite found out what J6 was after. [IMG]

TBH it all sounded like vague copying of other fighting games plots.

If they just based the story off of the anime, then we could at least paint a face to the owner of J6 (or should I say 'KoenKan')...

    Do we/you really care what/who J6 is?

    No.

So why bother with it? When you follow baseball/football, you don't need a Big Bad to care about the sport.
