How about extra points for people that show up on a consistent basis. Or maybe a higher purse $5 a person?

Hmmm that's a good point Brian, now that I think about that maybe we should award points for everyone but simply increase the margin of difference between top 3 and top 8/participants.

Maybe your set up is probably better for our current situation. If we do award all points at least then we can see who participated all through out the season.

Taking the conversation from IRC to the boards, Dan and I were discussing a few ideas.

The year would be broken down into two seasons. There are 52 weeks in the year, which would be 25 regular season games + 1 Finals. The number of season games can be adjusted down to give people time off.

If 1 point is issued for participation each ranbat each week, a minimum number of points should be assigned to participate in the Finals. In my above example it would be 10 points, or just under half. That way you would not run into the problem of one random player showing up for only one ranbat, receiving only one point, and then showing up to the tournament and dominating everyone just for the prizes that others have worked hard on.

    Just an edit:

It could be set up like this:

21 Regular Season Games + 1 Tournament Finals
8 (Attendance) Points Minimum To Enter The Finals

That gives us 44 weeks of ranbats, with 4 weeks off between seasons. So, June and December would be the off months.

I'm thinking you're recommending a second points tracking just for attendance. Correct me if I misread. I like that idea, though. It keeps one person from showing up once, happening to win, and thus qualify for finals.

For scheduling, it would be cool if people listed their day(s) of preference. I like the idea of having things the same day every week and I don't require it. I can see doing this on Thursday nights or Saturday afternoon/evenings. I'll certainly host as often as necessary. I think splitting host duties between, EL_Brisal73, L_A_Akira,[/size] and I makes it fair for people around SoCal that need to drive to these ranbats.

I had not considered a second point system, as I figured that everyone would get points for attending. However, You uncovered a flaw and what you say does make sense. One player can get a large win early, and not show the rest of the season.

Not to make it too complicated, but a second attendance point system would not be difficult. Just have a sign in sheet for the ranbat tournament.

On a similar topic; Someone will have to keep track of the points. The easiest way to do that would be for the host of the ranbat for the week to keep the points and post them here or in a similar thread.

in a 6 month season a player would have to with 4 months straight at 1st place to sit out 2 more months to guarentee a lock in for first. Either this situation is unlikely, or the top player is being rewarded for consistency, because 2 months break isnt much.

Also the finals of the season can have boosted point totals rewarded, as an extra incentive for attendance

We are running a large scale tour for VF5. I would love for you to attend at least one of our stops !!

Coming off strong from the Buy.com Tournament in Anaheim, our next event is in Memphis, TN !!

$500 is up for grabs for 1st place

California is far from Memphis, TN, however maybe a few of you might be interested in flying in. If you are interested in FLYING t our event, feel free to email or PM us. We can help coordinate travel with you. (For players who have never flown to a tournament before)

Like I said before our kick off event in Memphis, TN on Memorial Day Weekend and it is looking like a true success.

I don't want to attend that day because of prior work commitments for the whole weekend. I hope to see that other players can make it.

I like all the participation so far. This has the potential to be really exciting and unlike anything I've done before. My suggestion is that we come to agreement and plan out the next two months. I've spoken with L_A_Akira and EL_Brisal73 and read the threads up till now. I've come up with some ideas based on discussions and study. I'd like some feedback about the following:

Ranbats once a week on the same day. I like the idea of the same day every week as it's easier to plan life around something consistent. The first four Saturday afternoons of each month come to mind.

Meet at noon, ranbat at 1:00, casual play afterwards for however long.

Rotate between my house, L_A_Akira's place, and EL_Brisal73's place.

Two months scheduled to start, after 30 days, the next month is planned so everyone has at least 4 weeks notice.

Alternate day would be Thursday night. This is based on my preference and L_A_Akira's preference for when to have people over. I like Saturdays due to lack of traffic (a huge concern for people coming to my house on a Thursday night - it will always be bad).

    Please comment.

    Ahh, I'll pre-answer an un-asked question...

"Once a week?! Isn't that too much?"

Might be too much for some people and not enough for others. My thoughts: it's not necessary for me to attend EVERY ranbat, even if I want to be the big winner of the season. I'd just better do extra well if I don't show up to every single one.
