I think it's pretty common to get some hardwares to play games the way they're designed to be played
I mean, who'd play a DDR game on a standard pad?
What's about playing a gun game on normal controller?
I think it's pretty common to get an Arcade stick for an arcade fighting game
Plus, PS2 version of Evo is coming out...so you won't be using it for just one game

    also...
VF4 isn't the only one fighting game on PS2
You can also use the stick with games like Tekken 4, Guilty Gear XX, Soul Calibur 2, KoF2002, etc

....yeah, but why?....if there are no VF machines near you, or there are but noone plays seriously, then why bother to get good at it yourself?....I've got my moneys worth out of VF4 w/o a controller......also if I get better w/ a stick, who's going to play me?....Will I have to convince the only other person I know with the game to buy a stick just so we can have better games...? ..if you loved flight sims for example then buy a I-feel-like-I'm-in-the-cockpit stick by all means, but if your not buying motion sensors so you feel as though it's you that is fighting, then don't bother......a waste of time and a waste of money.....

Come to florida, we will be more than happy to show you the beauty of the arcade stick. It all comes down to movement. You can move on a pad like you can on a stick. You probably think you can, but your a scrub lol jk. Seriously though, You can shinz step, or linny on a pad. and you cant modify shit. So you as a akira player are hurting yourself. cause you cant modifiy double palm
