To me, gaming is a hobby, an entertainment of some sort and definitely not a way of life. So long as you set your priorites right, you can be a real hardcore gamer and still lead a decent life.

Hmm...even one of Japan's ex-prime ministers, sorry I don't remember the name, plays video games during his free time and he's like 65 years old or something! /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

i just a stick, i got one slightly used from the local gaming store, probobly wont go back to controler just because my thumbs get raw from playing it so much and its more fun to me to use the stick that way you go in the arcade and you feel right at home

VF was designed to be played with a joystick. Realizing this and doing something about it doesn't make someone a "sad no-life friendless geek", it makes them a human being capable of reason who happens to have a hobby. Seriously gamesmaster, why spend any money on any video game at all? If you approach them like they are a waste of time and money then maybe YOU should go out or play football or something.

Geeze, just the thoughts of doing Akira's SPoD or DLC on the pad is enough to make my thumbs feel sore /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif .

Afterall, if one really loves the game so much and will go as far as studying frame count in the game, why not get a joystick so that one could practice at home as one would in the arcade? There is no doubt that many of the veteran gamers here are able to pull off complicated combos consistently using the pad. But even so, excuting DLC with a pad and doing it with joystick and button-tapping coordination is a totally different experience.

On a personal note, I feel that if I am going to spend hundreds of hours playing, practicing and perfecting my gameplay and combos at home, I will definitely want to make sure that I am able to use them just as effectively when I am playing against someone in the arcade. Afterall, VF is all about challenging.

    Just my opinion.

My brother, too, played with a gamepad until recently. We both started together with VF2 on Saturn. We had to use "combination" buttons. Then came DC. The agetec sticks were released with VF3, and I bought them both. I got comfortable with the sticks in no time. I wished I had started with the sticks, because the whole experience was even better. Execution was way easier, and really showed just how carefully crafted the moves were fused to the button presses. Yes, there is a science to the relationship of moves to button and direction execution. My brother sticked to the pad. VF4 came along with the Hori sticks. I got even better with the sticks. Did a Spod for the first time in my life. I tried spod with VF2 and the Saturn pads. It was impossible. NEVER though about doing it on VF3. I told my brother to give the sticks a shot since my friend came over one day, and switching one of the sticks with the pad everytime my brothers chance came up was getting to be a bitch. He was forced to try the sticks. Really give it a shot. He's not looked back since, and his game has improved 10 fold. I should have kept him on the pads.

you got that right virtua kage!
I just don't understand why it would be a priority in anyone's life. And I think, that joy-sticks are just a way for companies to make more dosh.
And creed, why would I want a fucking big stupid aracade in my house? I'd much rather have a drinks cabinet or pinball machine in it's place!

A drinks cabinet? You mean a wet bar? I bet you don't even drink.... legally. And why would you want a pinball machine over VF4? Forget it, stop playing games and get a dictionary (what the fuck is an aracade) and maybe you'll learn something and quit mangling words and wasting forum space.

Gosh good point! People who buy sticks are a bunch of losers for investing 60 bucks to be able to play a game competently, but a couple of grand for a pinball machine in your living room is hip and elite! Glad you could clear that up, winner!

Then don't call people sad because you don't want one. You're basically calling half the people on this site sad.

ok, i don't mind if you have a joystick, just cos you wanted one anyway, but i think it's really lame if you get one solely for this game. It just seems so WEIRD to me.

...I don't know about Newcastle, but their certainly aren't any VF4 machines near me, so we probably don't need to practice at home for arcade games.....not sure if I actually would have bought the game if I lived near an arcade though......it would be sad for me (and probably for you too) to buy the joystick just to get better at playing a PS2 game....

You got it right this time. It's about individuals and the areas you are in.
And it's also about how much you love the game.

For some, it is sad to buy a joystick just for one game; for others, they would buy a CONSOLE just for the game and feel cool about it.

If there are no VF4 or Evo machines in my area, to me THAT would be sad.
