None of Sega's 2k series are though, every f*ck up that Sega has had with recent sports games is all SOA's fault.

Urm the sports games had a big advertisement push, are graphicaly superior, have more features and better gameplay then the EA counterparts.
Tell me what else was there that Sega couldve done better?
They went way beyond Madden for instance.

 

i didnt like the NFL2k series that much. I find madden has more realistic momentum physics and deeper play books, while NFL2k running game, players can turn on a dime. NBA2k series is far surperior than the EA counterpart though, Live lacks defense and as someone explained it best NBA Live feels like a hockey game with dribbling.

I (and most other people who play sports games) fell that Madden still has a slight upper hand in the football videogame franchise as opposed to Sega with the 2K games. But the NBA2k series is far superior to any other Basketball game hands down, nothing is close to touching it.

The problem with the 2k series of football is that there is not a balance between arcade style (of play, physics, game modes, etc.) and simulation style. Also the first few Sega NFL games had horrible running games to them sometimes, it was so easy to run for 100's of yards in games to score ludicrous amounts of touchdowns.

While imo NFL2k > Madden overall, people buy the games mainly for a fun football experience, so unfortunately Madden makes the money, Sega gets screwed.

And take a look at some recent articles about NFL2k4 and ESPN licence for some Sega blunders...

 

I'm curious to see what was SoJ's fault.

As for the sports games being superior - I'm srue you're right. Most Sega games are fantastic and innovative. They've just got crappy marketing/management as a whole. Once they botched the Dreamcast, it's really hard to sell fantastic games for a machine that nobody has.

 

The Saturn´s botched design over the wonderfull machine SoA had ready, the Saturn´s launch price and botched up US launch etcetera.
Just a few OLD examples wich you can look for yourself on the internet.
There is a lot more tough.
Thomas Kalinske was doing a great job till SoJ wanted to take over and screwed everything up.

 

Yeah both SoJ and SoA have had pretty rough days since the failed Sega 32x type projects, and the Saturn getting plowed by the Playstation/N64. Well at least they recovered with the Dreamcast /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif!



But all in all though, I am glad to see Sega get out of the console world, becuase now I can have the best of both worlds:

-A Sega were they don't need to focus on selling the most consoles, and instead focus on what matters, the games!

-Now I can buy Sony consoles, and play Sega games on them, like VF4 Evolution! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I only care about Sega's VF, and sports games for the most part, and those are on (gasp), the PS2.

And Sony consoles are the best and probably will be the best for quite some generations, you know and I know it, and also yes LOL the X-Box suX and of course isn't gonna get VF:Evo.

 

Then why is the PS2 hardware reviled in almost every developer circle out there?

Or that PS2 version of multiplatform games are usually the worst-looking of the bunch (Sonic Heroes is a good upcoming example).

And anyone who can't recognize the greatness that is Orta needs to be beaten out of pity.

Yeah, my Xbox sucks. I can only:
Play any ROM that predates N64
Some N64
any SegaCD
A shitload of MAME games
A shitload of PCX games
DVDs
AVI/MPG/MP3/etc
and of course, Xbox games. While PS2 has the library, I do give full credit to M$ for making a nice machine...although it's as big as a house.

As for Sony machines being the best? Yeah, that's why they fucked up release of PS1 (overheating) PS2 DVD thing... and other various hardware mishaps. Xbox had a similar thing w/ the DVD Rom, but never happened to mine. I don't know how widespread it was.
