1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. LOL the Korean don't play fighting games? LOLOL!

And arcades aren't dying in Japan. The only reason that Sega closed 110 arcades is because they over expanded right before the global financial meltdown and couldn't keep up month-to-month costs for keeping the new arcades open. And 5R isn't keeping any arcades open for Sega.

In this economy even Starbucks has had to close or scale back 100s of stores within the U.S. and they are still doing fine as a company.
3S is racking up tons of money for Capcom and everything is pure profit because the machines have paid for themselves years ago. 3S is regularly in the top ten of most played fighting games in Japan and the 3S machines in Capcom arcades are Capcom owned so they get all of the money from those machines.

And the Japanese barely touch SFIV consoles compared to the arcade from what people at SRK have posted about Japan's SFIV scene. If anything the console release for SFIV got more people to go to the arcade and it seems to have propped up 3S popularity as well.

And comparing 3S to VF5R is stupid. 3S took a long time to come to consoles and so did VF3TB. You know what didn't take long to come to consoles? SFIV. VF5 was relatively quick but where is VF5R? Back in the DC/P21 days games weren't rushed to consoles but this is a new era. The turnaround between SFIV, BB, KOFXII, is what we should expect for VF5R. Hell even Namco, while they waited two years, still announced T6BR for consoles and gave the community tons of info.
VF5R is not doing that well considering it's been beaten by 3S in some months and games like T6 and BB are dominating it. Even stuff like MB,AH,GG, Gundam, are beating VF5R regularly.

VF4/EVO/FT dominated the Japanese arcade scene. Nothing but Gundam ever threatened it for the top spot. Now VF5R is barely making it in top 5 and keeps falling and it's losing to old games. The VF series has fallen from dominating the top to struggling to keep within the top 5 in the transition from 4FT to 5R version B.

This is the 'year of the fighter' and with proper marketing VF5R would sell well on consoles if Sega would make an effort. Look at the tremendous success they had with Valkyria Chronicles when it was marketed right. Look at Blazblue and KOFXII. Online modes, dual consoles, region free, DLC, etc. Sega just can't do anything right with VF series it seems like especially outside of Japan.

Maybe in Japan gaming is like drinking alcohol for us. If you game with friends, or at specified "gaming" centers, its totally acceptable. If you play all day at home by yourself, its pathetic (in the eyes of society).

I agree that Sega seems not to be able to do anything good with VF5 as usual,

But the rest of your post im a bit skeptical.

Koreans are famous for their dedication to RTS's. thats why there are those LAN centres, not to play KOF thats for sure. maybe a minority of people play FG's as well, but my Korean friend tells me Starcraft is HUGE.

We are treading old water me and you with this argument about Capcom old glories and why VF5 is not as popular as VF4 was,

Maybe its time you stop repeating yourself and give some new insight to the stuff you keep posting. If you go back and read your post history, you will see that you have been writing the same stuff all these years.

let me give you some ideas: maybe the success of VF4 was also thanks to SNK doing badly, Capcom not offering much, Namco doing terribly?

My flame was in response to "If not, and if supposedly the console version doesn't make any money, Y don't Sega release the console code as Open Source", which is FUCKING STUPID.

In response to the actual question, OF COURSE they care about console version.

My local gaming centre has about 5 or 6 Korean guys who play a good 8 or so hours of Starcraft most days of the week.

There's an economic factor to this as well. Asian Net Cafe's usually double as LAN gaming spots, and people only have to pay a small amount per hour, as opposed to playing at an arcade (per game), or the cost of a console (console + game). Since a large majority of Korean players are students, the cost of playing StarCraft for 8 hours a day can be lower than playing an arcade game for half the time.

However, their arcade scene is still bigger than pretty much anywhere else, save for Japan (or some cities in China/HK/Taiwan). I'm not disagreeing that FG's players are comparatively a minority in Korea, I'm just saying that the minority you speak of is still significant when you compare it to the size of other scenes.

My point was:

Japanese people dont flock to the arcades to play SF3,

Korean people dont flock to the LAN centres to play SF3 on GGPO,

Flocking would be like the Koreans flocking to play Starcraft.

3S has been in the top ten most popular arcade FGs in Japan in some months this year. The game is ten years old. People are regularly playing it enough to put it in the top ten. So you are wrong.

And no one said that Koreans are using GGPO. Reading comprehension.

http://www.sega.com/jackpot/

any way check it out I guess. It could also be a game where I guess who ever happens to yank the slot machine arm at a specific number probably wins something cool. well I'll be yanking here there when ever I get the chance.

My Open Source statement was meant to be both cynical and sarcastic. To my knowledge no gaming company has every released Intellectual Property (IP) such as VF into open source. Not one! Of course Sega wouldn't release VF into open source [IMG] Even if through some weird bazaar turn of events we were to get our hands on the Source code for VF, none of us could do anything about it because the development kits, other related licensing costs, etc are far beyond the financial means of most of us on VFDC. The point that I was trying to get at is Sega is just sitting on VF5R and could be doing more with it. If you look at the posts b4
and after mine, many of them have a sarcastic and cynical
point. I was putting my cynical 2 cents in as well.

Yo Reno I love you man [IMG]

remember this

Humility may lead to meanness, But vanity may lead to violence. Therefore it is better to be humble. Discipline your body, that your mind may find a greater power. Those who surrender themselves, find inner strength. When the heart knows no danger, no danger exists. When the soul becomes the warrior, all fear melts, as the snowflake that falls upon your hand. Seek always peace. Wear no paths for the footsteps of others, unless the soul is endangered. We are all linked by our souls. To endanger one, endangers all [2] [G] [+] [P] [+] [K]

So I yanked it for a while and it looks like it's a countdown to something. As of this post it's at 050033 and every minute it decreases by 1. So 50,034 minutes until.....

A 30-day month is 43,000 minutes. As of the time of this writing, the jackpot countdown was at 42,249, so we may have just under a month as Slide said.

I'm going with it being VFR for console.
