Sega hinted that they may/could release an online/ver. C patch for the PS3. The info is here:

    http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162425

The online petition for them to do so is here:

There was a petition for them to add online to the 360 version so Sega IS listening! Get on it folks!

Would also like to point out that the T5:DR online expansion was made for a game that wasn't intended to have online in the first place and its only a 591mb download.

    Thanks for the link, focusflute.
When I first tried it it said, "server error" or something like that, and the same thing happened to a friend of mine but I tried it again and it worked.
So dont give up if your signature doesn't go through the first few times. The site works.

The petition is written in a confusing manner -- I didn't see a "We owners of Virtua Fighter 5 on the the Playstation 3 version want a patch that enables online play and/or updates the game to Version C" any where.

I bet Sega just got a bunch of money shoved up thair ass from M$, to make VF5 Online on Xbox 360. Thats what M$ always does.

It so obvious: Sony is a supporter of blue ray, M$ of HD DVD.
Since it looks good that blue ray will win the race, M$ tries to boot out sony. Thats why VF5 on PS3 won't get online for the next 1/2 to 1 year and most of the PS3 exclusive titels are now available on Xbox 360 too.

    I signed the petition too.

I will be a 360 player, however, I know deep down it's not right for Sony fans to be missing the updated features of version C and online.

As a community we need to have as many people as possible into this game, without half of them feeling ripped off or cheated for missing features that their machine is surely capable of.

Online petitions generally don't work. =/

However, if you believe they do work, then I think a petition to get demos up on PSN and LIVE would be much better. If you want to get as many people as possible into this game, that would probably be the best bet. A Version C and online patch would really only benefit players who already own the PS3 version (which definitely isn't a bad thing), but it won't bring in any new players.

So, the best thing to do would be to bring the players in with the demos, and keep them hooked to it with the awesome Version C + online update (for PS3 players).

I think this guy is saying sorry for PS3 users, don't that means we will never give a shit about you & your only remorse is the word sorry?!

I hope they do, because I really stopped playing any Sega game or buying one till they patch VF5 with online & ver. C :\ that is how much I'm pissed at SEGA!

Also a good reason for not doing a online and ver. c update for the PS3 and not relasing the xbox version of vf in japan is:
They still want the ppl to play the arcade version in japan!

Given the option to play online, Japan would still be playing it in the arcades. They don't need to worry about that there lol.

It would be in sega and sony's best interest to make this patch as soon as possible because it will not only help an ailing PS3 that is losing money for sony but it will also get the series back on track. As it was mentioned before in this thread VF isn't very popular outside of Japan and games like Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, and Tekken dominate in the US for example because they are more user friendly. They lack the depth, AI, and challenge of a VF game period and because they are flashier they will always win the popular vote over VF. VF5 of 360 and PS3 need to their acts together and get things going because once Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur 4 releases they will blow VF away in overall popularity and sales overall. Being able to play VF online could be the jolt the series needs to get things going in their favor while those other games aren't out yet and haven't had a chance to get a foot hold on the public.

The games itself doesn't need online play because the gameplay is so in depth, balanced, and challenging that it all but makes up for not having online play but if the general public is to ever except it as a game that is obviously the best overall a major step like online play will be needed and if it could have online play for both PS3 and 360 versions of VF5 the competition would only make the game one that would actually make Tekken 6 sweat knowing it won't just run away with with the best fighting game title before it even comes out.

I'm pretty the bulk of Japan arcade players will keep playing in the arcades even with the release of a patch ... given the inherent defects of online play.
