1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

VF made by a developer that didn't play fighting games at all, so what's your point?

Also, Midori said esports concepts and mechanics that are similar to current Street Fighter and other fighting games. She's not talking about gameplay mechanics. Hubs, replays, friends list etc.

If you read carefully Aoki's interview and Midori's information, you will get a very good idea where VF is heading next. They don't want to make a Tekken or a Street Fighter clone. Tekken 8 and SF6 are amazing games and there is no point for them to try something similar. They are making VF again, and this what matters right now.

    1) You dont know this. May be (i am sure) he played SF or other 2d fighting games before VF1.
    2) Developing the game does not need to be a good player in this game.
    3) Yu Suzuki of course played/tested his own VF games.

Yu Suzuki made his fist VF1 after spending much time in learning real martial arts.
All follow up VF parts were made by him, with his portfolio in developing VF game.

"This is a Virtua Fighter title that is developed to be a modern competitor to Street Fighter and Tekken with esports concepts and mechanics that are similar to current Street Fighter and other fighting games. It is a concept that evolved a lot."
In this context, it sounds like _gameplay_ mechanics.

Aoki said much, and on practice for VF5US i dont see such things (no save replay w frame data display for esports, no critical fixes for connect display for esports, worse graphic style and removed realistic special effects like hot breath for ex).
Midori said in his prev post the _opposite_ info: VF reboot is developing by the team of _previous_ VF titles.
So this your thoughts are not right.

I think there is a lot of information/discussion in here that is lost in translation. The Midori tweets also likely have some info lost in translation.

As with the February rumor tweet, not much new info but keeps VF back into the news cycle!

Actually, the name drop of Soul Calibur staff and "battle universe" term is new.

I particularly like these rumors (some confirm Aoki recent interviews like the net code), especially mentioning the rollback netcode and cross-platform play.

I also appreciate that the story mode would be more emphasized. As for customization, and as a cynic I know it will be similar to Tekken, with a few basic costumes initially and likely additional ones to acquire on the market (Gone are the days of VF4 when costumes were simple and less costly to make with only 10 polygons, that's life!).

I hope the game remains streamlined in the tradition of the old ones.

The statement "graphics are not the priority" is a bit concerning; I hope it won't result in a game with a simplistic and basic design, like the clean and cubistic model of the first Virtua Fighter, or cute and simple graphics à la Fortnite, just to justify delivering lazy graphics worthy of a Switch. It doesn't seem very logical to compete with Tekken 8 or SF6 by doing so. Perhaps it means that the graphics will remain at a level expected of a PS5 and not a PS6, considering the game will be released when the new consoles are making waves (to me most important thing is mocap and animations anyway that's why vf5 IS still good today)...

Lastly, I like the idea that the stakes will be a reboot but still a continuation of Virtua Fighter 5 (it would be funny to have Pai roughly the same age as Lau in Virtua Fighter 1, and a son who is young, creating the opposite mirror of their duo in the old episodes xD). As all fighter archetypes are there in vf6, it's ok for me, with only 20 characters i think it's already guaranted.

It's a known fact Yu Suzuki didn't play fighters or video games in general. He's mentioned it interviews in the past. The only game he was into was Mahjong, and that was at the parlors in Japan. That and acquiring Ferraris at the time. I remember this distinctly in one of of the game magazines before the DC launch.

VF1 development was put on pause so him and his staff could go study martial arts and do interviews with fighters for insight in their thought process.

Is it so difficult to understand that Ultimate Showdown was a small project, especially made for the 60th anniversary of SEGA, and nothing more than that? It's been three years since Ultimate Showdown's launch, so it's ok to accept the game for what it is, and move on.

As for the interview, Aoki shared his thought about future games, and from what I've read, he has a very clear vision for the next VF. He knows his stuff and he fully understands what make VF so special. I have faith in him and his team. Also, Katagiri and Osaki as still at AM2, so, there is nothing to worry about.

Not only did Juro Watari work on Virtual-On, he directed the most beloved entry in the franchse: Oratorio Tangram. This game is like the Halo Combat Evolved of the Virtual On franchise: a game so well-loved by its fans that later entries are totally disregarded by those die hard players due to the change in pace, balance, and format of the gameplay. Force turned Virtual On into a 2v2 focused title and made movement drastically more committal, which were changes that especially Americans and Europeans did not like. Funny enough, Watari wasn't involved at all with Force. He would come back for ACM Virtual On though. At the very least, he is familiar with how to balanced a fighting game (as tenuous as that connection is to traditional fighters like VF).

I would like to remind people of this article because it is the single biggest hope any of us VF fans have had for awhile now: https://www.gamerbraves.com/seiji-aoki-says-its-essential-future-virtua-fighter-games-have-rollback/

So basically, this would imply an announcement during EVO in July 2024 and a release around May or June 2025. If the game started development in June 2021, that seems short, doesn't it?

Never expect a logical thing from Sega. They will announce a pachinko machine and then tease a new VF in a separate post on Twitter lol.

A VF pachinko mobile game. Let's hope not. Lol.
