GGs to Hydrakid last night...TOO FUN!

You even got to hear me complain about throws via mic, that I didn't even know was on til it was too late. :p

You're Lau is soooo fuckin clean. Would love to see u and Elite duke it out. ^_^

Yeah, Elite vs Hydrakid would be a very interesting match-up. Alternate ending: three-way mash-up between Kamais, Elite, and Hydrakid. They're the cleanest fighters that I know, in my limited experience: very little flash, but clean, fast kills.

I just read this post! I really appreciate the props, and that's exactly what I need to work on. After playing with you in that set the other day, I was thinking about that back dash sweep string you did that seemed so effective, and I realize how little I've been moving this whole time. That is some of the best advice I've ever heard, and it's exactly what I need to start going toe-to-toe with you and players like Bilal, Truewisemen, Salam, etc...right now, I'm working on OS and some basic TE tech as well as Fuzzy guarding...I'll hit you up sometime over the weekend to get a set in.

ggs to everyone in ranked today coffee, elite, etc...

but I think i'm done with VF5 for a little....I'll probably hit u guys up in player match, but today I just lost a lot in rank when I didn't feel the opponent was particularly better than me. Against elite's Kage, I know I'm going to lose most of the time, but I always feel him outsmarting me. Today playing against coffee's lau, I got hit with his quick back-dash sweep like 10 times, when at least half of those times I knew they were coming. Then of course, the stupid throw system where I have to guess which way he's gonna throw? No disrespect to anyone's skill level, but certain characters just seem to be able to go on auto-pilot easier than others, and that's the main reason I stopped playing Sf4. Lau, Jacky, Vanessa, etc...just have these quick or really powerful options that to me, seems to require little thought behind or risk really, and I feel like these guys get to go on auto-pilot and only think when the opponent gives them reason to, whereas Akira, or Jeffrey etc...are pretty much calculated from start to finish.

I really appreciate all the props, and maybe I'm just salty cuz I lost more than I won today, but it really left a bad taste and was quite discouraging...

GGs Pana! And I agree. The fact that you have something to lose may increase your incentive to win. But for enjoyment purposes losses in rank will take that completely away. You're no longer playing for fun but solely for rank. Try playing in some of the rooms hosted by the awesome players on this site. You'll feel much better.

I guess I'm in the minority here, cause in my opinion loosing is one of the most enjoyable things in a game of this caliber, its not quite the same as loosing to some of the BS in SF and other games. Also the increased incentive to win in ranked is exactly why I like learning there when fighting smart players on this board. I like it when things are on the line cause it forces other players to get serious, and to me this is not saying much since rank is kinda of a joke with all of the loopholes. This is why when I loose to guys like Hydrakid, shidosha, and a few others (omnistalgic included) I will keep challenging them in hopes that I can learn something new. I figure if someone is loosing to 'random' stuff they are probably just having an off day, using jeff (lol), or simply just isn't familiar with the match up itself (Like me and Kage).

don't let coffeetime or whatever his name is discourage you. he uses a spammy system comparable to BlackBeltSpartan, although his works better. i played him 5 times and couldn't get around his scrubby tactics. be that as it may, it's ranked mode and anything goes.

hit anyone of us up in player match or room match (just send us invites). i could use a break from ranking mode now anyway lol

tks for the support fellas, you're right though, whatever tactic I lose to in player or room matches, it's always just fun to come back and try again. I think with Coffeetime, he has a very basic strat that's pretty effective especially with my weakness to throws, and since we are in the same level bracket each loss really hurt lol, and I just felt I should be able to go even with him at least not lose 4 games out of 5 lol...

It wasn't really the loses that bothered me either, as I loss a bunch of times to Elite in rank today, (got him a few times tho -_-) it was coffee's strategy was pretty basic, and I caught on to it fairly quickly, and still felt powerless to do anything about it. that's what was frustrating, not the losses, but HOW I was losing. Then I just had an epiphany, I need to learn Lau....

lol..I feel even more stupid now, but tks for the support forum DomAug especially, I'm in training mode for the next two weeks with Jacky/Lau/Vannessa, I don't mind losing to the players, but I'm done losing to the character! I have faith that VF will reward you the more time you put in, so with practice, I should be able to defend against Coffee lau's and force him to elevate his strategy a bit, at least when fighting me ;-)

I have the same issues man, it's really revealing on my overall weakness really. I can only beat people if I can read them and beat their gameplan .... that's necessary for sure but I gotta learn to force others to adapt to ME, I spend all my time figuring things out, never forcing my will on people.

But I guess that will come.. but it's a position I find myself in with most new games... some people figure out how to win right away, I tend to try to figure out a way to make them not win before I figure out a way to win. I know that barely makes sense, but I think you guys should know what I'm saying as fighting game players.

I know exactly what you're saying, and I think in the long-run, hopefully we'll be more rounded players because of it...this is a thinking man's game dammit! I still believe that...

GGs to Chamame today. Sorry for that bullshit DC right as you were finishing me with Aoi - it was bogus, but it was just my internet being crappy; I didn't pull on you. Thanks for giving me a few games - it's hard to find good players outside of the few people on my friends list (to which you've had an invite for weeks now). Your Sarah seemed to be your strongest character, but it might just be that I have more experience against Kage and Wolf so they seem easier for me to handle.

@OmniStalgic, The backdash > sweep thing might seem powerful if you're using short range moves from certain situations but you just need to remember that it's quite a high risk for Lau with quite minimal reward even though it can land often (most people guard high). It's -18 on guard and only half circular so you can evade it. Make sure you punish it hard when you defend it and you will erase the damage getting hit by even 4-5 of them did. This is a general rule for lows in this game as most need to be a counter hit to do very much to you and are usually punishable.

If he is using backdash > sweep or backdash > whatever from particular ranges/situations you can even just use a move with long range to catch him coming back in (Lion 66p maybe? not familiar with Lion moves too much).

I have to point out the irony of a Lion player having trouble with a low attack though :p

    ^ I main Jean too! @complexz

GGS to Kamais Ookin...great pressure/throw game and nice defense.

the lows damage wasn't the problem, it's just getting knocked down so much that was annoying me...but yeah, I don't know if lion can really punish sweeps hard, that's one of his weaknesses, I don't really have a quick launcher, 44k will miss, and his 236p only launches on counter hit. I might be able to elbow him and get a knockdown of my own though. I'm going to just play with Lau/Vanessa for a while (since they seem to be the characters I have the most issues with) and really get a feel for there play-style. If for nothing else, I feel really comfortable playing lion, Jeans, Jacky since I play a little of each of them, so getting that feeling with Lau should be enough to win consistently against him.

Good games to Koenraku's room, even if I wasn't around for too long -- better to get some practice, tonight, than none! In particular, good games to Raze--, animelord79, mistercomplexz, and the host -- oh, and Nomas_Tomas, of course! I don't think that I got to fight anybody else in the room, but they were strong players and enjoyable to spectate.

It's just that, with my headset being out of powah, sitting at the bottom of the list was too dour an experience, haha. Sitting, watching... sitting, watching... listening to everybody havin' so much fun and not being able to join in was killin' me. I don't know how people stand sitting at the bottoms of eight-man rooms with no mics!

I'll be back in force tomorrow, though, and maybe even late-night tonight, if anybody is around. I feel gypped by fate, so I may try to get in a few more. Thanks for the matches!
