First point I guess could be arguable, but this statement of mine was also made before the 1.80 update was announced, which was mistakenly/fakely reported as 2.00. Certainly the additions to the PS3 FW would have warranted such a huge jump in version number, but anyone can call their next version whatever version number they want. :p

Second: I was under the assumption that since the PS3 didn't have the custom soundtrack option in games yet that the games wouldn't have the code in them to do it. The Xbox and 360 both have this option, but they also had the option from the launch of the console(s) so that developers could do it when they wanted to. Heck, the Xbox itself didn't have too many games right away that had the custom soundtrack option and many still didn't, though I do have experience in setting it up.

Third: I really wish this was one of those cases where we could prune the dead/diseased branches of the tree. :3

1.80 had absolutely nothing in common with 2.00. 2.00 (if true of course) was simply leaked early (before we even knew about 1.80). I suppose people just assumed that the next update would be 2.00 and that's how 1.80 was mistakenly thought of as 2.00.

Take a look at the "PS3 guide" in the general forum. I list what was reported to be in the 2.00 update. It's much different from 1.80.

However, since 1.80 had upscaling, the apparent 2.00 update seems much more likely to be true.

And if you know the situation of how it got leaked and whatnot...it seems pretty suspicious and way too coincidental to be fake. >.>

XBOX custom soundtrack and 360 custom soundtrack are totally different. The first requires the devs to actually put the code into the game itself. The latter (the 360) doesn't require any effort on the dev side.

You know how for PS3, when you play music and you press the PS button, you go back to the XMB to do whatever? That's basically what happens with custom soundtracks on 360 (and hopefully PS3 soon). You press the guide button (or PS button in the case of PS3), choose a song, then exit the menu and go back to playing the game. BAM! Custom soundtracks. Of course, for games like GTA and sports games, Devs would probably put the code in so that users don't always have to manually choose their songs.

420Gamer4Life, I agree that custom tracks would be a blessing for this game as the music is by far not as good as the first edition of virtua fighter 4, being able to conveniently play the virtua fighter 4 tracks would give the game a better appeal overall

if custom tracks are true, then GTAIV will become the grand master game to own to play custom tracks. I will shove music from past GTA games onto my PS3 so I can reminiss on music of old GTA in GTAIV

Again the PC is the superior game platform as usual. There are entire custom radio stations you can download, or even make your own, and import them into the GTA games (III, Vice City, San Andreas) for the PC. Not to mention that the GTA games have endless multiplayer mods (Multitheft Auto Mod), while GTAIV is going to 'revolutionary' with a new multiplayer mode for the PS3 and 360. Custom soundtracks have been around for a long time on the PC.

And if you REALLY want custom soundtracks on VF, can't you just go to the option menu, turn the music down all the way, and then just play your own music from an I-pod, stereo, laptop, etc.

yea but thats the ghetto way. these systems are suppose to be next gen. shouldnt we be able to listen to our own cutstom soundtracks by now. i mean i love in game music when done right but for the most part. music in most fighting games is horrible and repetitive.

You missed the entire fucking point. These systems are only 'next gen' in name, not in function. Custom soundtracks have been possible on the PC/MAC platform for well over a decade...and if you weren't such a glaring retard you would have figured out a way to play your own music on your own when you play VF without needing some 'revolutionary' firmware upgrade. Sony is still technologically in the dark ages.

But this quote is my favourite:
"i mean i love in game music when done right but for the most part. music in most fighting games is horrible and repetitive. "
Yeah that's because when most people play fighting games they don't give a shit about the music...I've played more hours of VF4:Evolution than nearly every other videogame I've ever played and I think I know two tracks from start to finish. The game I've spent most hours on, Starcraft, I remember about 15 seconds of music from the game....because the music isn't important in those games.

i know PC and macs have allowed this for some time now. oh by the way i bet you wouldnt be saying that to me to my face. i cant stand internet tough guys. your a bitch. this is the only time youll insult someone is on the net. sorry but if your going to insult me expect me to do the same.

Fortunately, you can play custom music in VF5 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Set the game's music volume to 0 and then play the music from another speaker/source ^_^

On top of that, you can add commentary!

well i dont think im the only one that is complaining to sony about the whole custom music. in fact i think EmpNova lots of people would like this feature. so much that sony will probably add it in a update. i said probably i didnt say it was for sure.

But as has been stated many times over, the game has to have this feature built into the code somehow for it to work. The chances of you playing Virtua Fighter 5 to your own soundtrack, other than the option Chanchai posted, is slim to none.

Like I said before, that's not how it works. In game XMB, like the 360, would just let you play music at the same time as playing a game. The game code itself has nothing to do with it. It's just multi-tasking (playing a game and music at the same time).

But as someone said before...who cares? Does anyone actually give a damn about music in fighting games?

    Edit:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Yeah that's because when most people play fighting games they don't give a shit about the music...I've played more hours of VF4:Evolution than nearly every other videogame I've ever played and I think I know two tracks from start to finish. exactly. exactly what? yea VF5 is a great game and i do play it alot but i still rather listen to my own music. i understand music doesnt make a game but unlike some of you i really love music. in fact i love music more than video games. the difference might be that your not music lovers in the first place. im not insulting anyone its just some people love music more than others.

im sure theres some people on here that would rather listen to there own music. in fact everyone i know that has a 360 has music on their hard drive. so i know its not just me that enjoys being able to listen to my own music. oh and by the way how much money do you guys want to bet when VF5 is released on 360 that most of you guys will be listening to your own music.

some of you put up this front that im a hardcore gamer and music doesnt matter because its all about the game. not everyone feels that way though. some of us really enjoy listening to our own music.

Re: PS3 firmware update version 2.0 custom music r

Let me put it to you in an analogy...

If you're playing an intense game of hockey and you land on a skate or someone's broken stick slashes your leg (a little, I'm obviously not talking about intense blood loss >_>), you never notice it, not until after the game when you undress and see the blood. It's similar with VF (well, fighting games in general) and music. Of course, people watching the matches would notice the music, just like someone in the stands might notice the blood, but when you're concentrating on the game/match at hand, music is the last thing on your mind. You're focused on what your opponent is doing/the action at hand more than anything. Even if you're not hardcore, it's not like you're a total noob. You still put some effort in the match, and you still concentrate at the task at hand. RPG's are different because there's a lot of walking around, so music is important for atmosphere...fighting games, not at all.

Just look at VF4 evo. I and many others have played thousands of matches...and I never noticed the music. I'd be hard pressed to pick out VF4 evo music from a sampling of several choices. I just don't notice it other than the beginning (since I'm not actually fighting =P).

i.e. There's no real point to music in fighting games. It's nothing more than background noise. Why bother worrying about background noise?

Yo, this is DancingFighterG. I would have to disagree on the idea that music does not matter in fighting games. A game techinical can be good but without that music to get you hype to fight the game is still fun but dull. Too me a really like VF but the music can get a little old. Too me Tekken and Soul Calibur have the best music soundtrack out of any fighting game that I have played.
