haha sorry, I'm just like that.. whenever I can't guess where an azn guy is from (I can spot chinese, japanese, and korean ok) I just guess filipino - I thought mike989222008485 was also. I was just calling pablo flip too the other day /versus/images/icons/wink.gif PS: can you say "flip" without people getting mad? I've seen it used but I figured now was a good time to ask.

i'm not really bothered by the word, i don't consider it a slur of any kind, and besides that term came from us filipinos, but i'm not sure how fellow filipinos react to it, but i'm sure its not a big deal, later /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

    hi there everyone.

just like you guys, i am a filipino as well and i live here in our country. i have been following vf since vf2 on saturn then moved on to dreamcast for vf3 (also bought those vf kids, vf remix, and fighters megamix cds)... obviously, i bought ps2 because of vf4. it's the only game i've been following, i guess. i don't have that confidence to play on local arcades because i'm sure that i'm gonna get nailed since i don't know how to use those damn sticks (sadly, i haven't seen much people good on arcades here as well)... i do play good with pads, though.

mostly, our mall arcades do have vf4s but it's not that popular --i think, as most people here prefer tekken (i have heard of tekken competitions before but none with vf). i remember during my time in college, my group of friends was like composed with16 people and only 2 among us have saturn and appreciates vf2 (the rest are tekken people with ps consoles convincing us to switch to tekken)... both of us didn't give up on our vf.

i envy those countries where vf is very popular as i have seen several video clips full of people watching those guys play (they are so much into it). i envy those people who have sticks on their consoles as well (i can't afford a stick, thats why), they can play good on vf4 arcades anytime they wanted to.

anyway guys, i'm so damn a solid vf fan no matter what... it's in my blood, just like being a filipino.

regards to everyone... more power to vf and to those people who play the game.

    --paeng

    p.s.
i haven't seen an arcade with vf4 evolution, i guess it isn't out here yet. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

hey, welcome to VFDC, glad to hear there's VF4 on mall arcades now, a bunch of my friends back there have been itching to play the arcade versions, (which mall are they at?). as far as its popularity there, i think the most popular versions of VF in the phillipines was VF2, and VF3, in fact i think back at 1997 there was a tournament for VF3, but since it took a while for VF4 to arrive there in arcades, namco's junkies became popular, oh well..

as for VF4 evo, it not be there for a while, unless VF4 becomes really popular again in the philippines. anyways try the arcade scene more, i mmean eventually those not so good players will improve, along with yourself, later /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

thanks for the warm welcome, raven.

in addition to the popular vf versions on arcades that you have mentioned, i can't forget the first time i saw virtua fighter "super wooden" which i believe is vf1. i know it was kinda way back in the days thing but i was so damn amazed... that single incident did it, i've been a vf fan ever since.

the mall i'm referring to is called sta. lucia east mall and it's quite near where i live. by the way, our area is called marikina city located on the eastside of the metro. that mall is not an upscale and is not that big compared to sm megamall and glorietta mall... but since sta. lucia east mall (a so so mall) have vf4 in their arcade, i'm assumming that those 2 prime malls have vf4 in their respective arcade sections too (they gotta to 'em, those 2 malls are supposed to be updated on the all new stuff around).

as for vf4 evo, i guess it will be a long waiting game before it comes out on local arcades... too bad, so sad!

and yeah, i hope i can be good with sticks thru practice on arcades and will try to save a few bucks from time to time so that i can get myself one of those sticks. btw, what brand of stick do you use and/or you can recommend for ps2?

well, i gotta go... salamat ulit pare ko.

Sta. lucia, talaga? wow, i was expecting the really big malls (megamall, Glorietta, Robinsons) to have it, i know where that is, before i moved to the states i lived in Cainta, so its pretty close, thanks for the info, like a said before a bunch of my friends wanted to try VF4 in the arcades, so i know that i know where its at i can tell them, i dont know how good they are though, i mean the last VF i played them in was VF3, and there's been quite a few changes to in VF4, in any case i think they'll be glad to finally find it out there.

as for joystick, i got a bunch of them, but the Hori VF4 stick is the one i use, i'm not sure what to recommend to you, but why don't you check out the choosing the joystick thread, you'll find a lot of info on sticks there.

    later,

ngek, lapit mo lang pala dito dati!!!

btw, sta lucia has only one vf4 and i'm pretty sure it's not like the ones you have there. it's plain and simple arcade mode wherein a player gets in to fight a ladder of opponents upto dural but can be interrupted if another player gets in the game for a player 2 player match. i'm sure your arcades have those vf cards so that the players can have their characters customized n prolly it has a kumite mode as well.

and bout the sticks, i have read the thread after posting my reply to you the other day. it contains a lot of info which made it more difficult to choose which is the best. i might go for the hori tekken4 instead of the hori vf4, though... just to give room for other games that requires a stick with more than 3 buttons. but guess what...? alang binebenta dito nun kahit sa greenhills ka pumunta, nakakainis!!! might order on-line na lang... sa singapore or sa japan, prolly.

well, hope to see your friends from time to time there in sta. lucia. sabihin mo sa kanila asa top floor, malapit dun sa mga sinehan... sabagay, dali lang hanapin un dahil iisa lang arcade dun e.

aaaayt dude, gotta go... ingat ka pare ko.

    Beatknuckle, Kumusta?

Is Sta. Lucia East Mall near San Sebastian, San Miguel or Tarlac? I remember going to a mall when I was in the Philippines back in '97. It might have been Sta. Lucia East. I'm asking cuz I'm going back later this month or November and I wanted to check out the VF scene in the Philippines. Also, do u know if any VF's are in any SM Megamalls??

    Salamat

hey there, Akira_Zero. kumusta din sa iyo? nawa'y nasa mabuti kang kalagayan.

sta. lucia east mall is quite far from san sebastian and definitely no way near san miguel and tarlac. if you've been visiting places like marikina, cainta, or antipolo when you were back here in '97, there's a big chance you've been to that mall.

as for vf4 arcade gaming here (sta. lucia mall in particular)... i'd sadly say, i've only seen one guy who is good and he plays shun but there are also few regulars whom i believe are dedicated in getting good at the game. the good thing is, the game seems to be attracting more and more poeple from time to time because the machine never gets vacant anymore. i believe that it will be just a matter of time before the game gets popular and i'm expecting that we will see more good gamers soon as well.

i haven't been to megamall in quite a few months now, so i'm not really sure if there's a vf4 machine there. but i assume there is one because they used to have those vf2s and vf3s when it came out on arcades. besides, megamall has like 4 to 5 arcade sections who seem to be always updated on new things... a big possibility is there.

so paano, hanggang dito na lang muna... later dude.

    Yo peeps...

Why don't yah join our club? SO you could meet other filipino players...

I used to play VF2, I though I was good but was beaten by a guy in SM centerpoint.

I kinda lost interest in VFTB3, but came back to VF4.
I play in University Mall(Near DLSU). Unfortunately competition is little (Only 5 players only play I think). We don't have VF4 evo... But I'm wishing.

Sta. Lucia? I went there when CvS was new.
Anyone in the Philippines want to have a match?

    Just visit http://buhawileague.fateback.com

    Ei.

I just got around to looking and posting, and am glad to see this thread. Sa wakas.

Filipino here, and I've been playing VF ever since, well, ever since VF1 (yes, polygons were all the rage for me back in high school). Transitioned slowly from VF2 to VF3, strutting around SM City after school just to play that (parati namang tinatalo).

Nagtiyaga ako sa VF3TB sa Farmers Plaza habang nag-iipon ako ng pera para bumili ng PS2. Di ko kasi mahanap yung VF4 sa Sta. Lucia or anywhere else like SM or Glorietta or Robinson's. Nakakahinayang, meron ngang VF4 sa Sta. Lucia, wala namang VFNet. Katawa lang, I actually fought someone in VF3TB in Farmers, and he said that he had been playing VF3 with a few other people then, and that they learned techniques from the Koreans (may libro pa daw sila, which must have been the mook). Nung tumanda na daw VF3, lumipat mga tao sa Tekken, and VF lost a lot of players.

Bought a PS2 mainly for VF4, and am glad to say that I'm back to my addiction. Don't have a stick, though, so kung meron sa inyong may alam kung paano makakuha ng magandang stick for PS2 VF4, pa-message naman.

And if anyone here wants to set up a regular VF4 get-together, pa-post na lang dito.

Oh yeah. A bit of info for us.

VF4[Evo] is present in the Philippines. It's currently placed alongside two Tekken 4 machines in the Worlds Of Fun arcade in SM Cubao.

3 tokens to play ( /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif ), which sucks pretty bad. Another bad thing is that the machine's sticks didn't seem that great, along with the buttons. Directionals weren't responding well and the buttons were kind of hard to press. Maybe the machine wasn't that good because nobody was playing the game. Nobody wearing out the controls.

I got there, and played without any interruption. Just a couple of bystanders looking at that game beside Tekken. Sad state for VF players here. I would have wished that a few people were playing, because it's been a long time since I had human opponents for this game.

And the whole point that I didn't know the new moves and modifications to Shun and Aoi meant that I was stuck with too few moves and combos to pull off.

    What a bum experience.

Hey FarOutFreak, maybe we could have a match... Last VF I played competitively is VF2... I didn't like VF3 that much... I went to play the Street Fighter games...

I'm not that good anymore at VF... but we could still have a match.

    hi there!

my brother n i went 2 sm cubao last sunday just to play vf4 evo and was able 2 consume around P200 as d game is really expensive (3 tokens per game / P6 per token). mahal talaga siya but since it's new, ok na din dahil nag-enjoy naman kme ni utol... and of course, 2 times lang kme nag-versus mode dayl mahal nga siya tsaka sayang ang pera kung kami lang ang mag-uupakan.

anyway, mukha ngang me problema ung mga buttons kse indi sensitive ung kick button ng player one controls... player two controls are much better dayl at least lumalampas ako ke goh sa arcade mode.

it's good to hear dat you're back playing vf kse alam ko nga konti lang dito ang nakaka-appreciate nung laro. kung meron mang nagkaka-gusto e nag-gi-give-up agad dahil ang hirap niyang laruin. well, ganon talaga dahil deep talaga ung laro kya indi ganon ka-tindi ung appeal niya sa mga gamers dito e... takaw sa oras to completely understand and learn it.

so pano, bahala na kung mag-kita-kita tayo sa cubao, try ko na lang ulit pumunta ngayong sunday to play d game.

    Ey beatknuckle,

Kung nandun ka sa SM Cubao nitong Sunday, baka nakita niyo ako...

Surprise, surprise... the machine is now down to 2 tokens (mukhang wala talagang gustong maglaro), but it's still the same bad controls and dark screen. But then, it was nice to see some people trying out the machine instead of Tekken 4.

Played a bit with Shun and Aoi, and managed to get Shun up to Dural. Bad trip, sobrang dugas talaga ng moves ni Dural. Dadalhin ka hanggang sa dulo ng ring...

If ever anyone looking at this thread wants to play and practice VF4 , message me and we'll try to set up something...

    FarOutFreak,

My bro and I were there the other sunday around 5:30 until 6:30pm and we were playing akira and lion. kung me nakita kang kalbo, si utol un at ung naka-cap e ako naman. hindi lang kame nakapunta ngayong weekend dahil pareho kaming busy.

so, nagbaba na pala sila ng presyo... ayoz un pra naman hindi naman masyadong mabigat sa bulsa -andugo kse nung 18 pesos per game e.

anyways, pagnagka-time kami ulit e sasabihan kita ahead of time d2 sa thread para pede tayong mag-meet don.

    so, pano... hanggang sa muli.

Hey nice to hear you guys got EVO. Are there alot of people playing? Also how far is SM cubao from SM megamall(my aunt lives near there)? Hopefully Ill be able to head over there sometime in May.
Oh ya I forgot to what the cabinets are like...back to back or side by side? Do they have japanese style sticks? Thanks

  19. FarOutFreak

    FarOutFreak Member

    In response to Mike92123's question...

Well, we do have EVO, and it's just one machine (as far as I know), the side-by-side kind. Not a lot playing, though.

The cabinet seems much like the Japanese Versus City machines common here. Controls are not that responsive. You'll need to tell me what you mean exactly by Japanese-style sticks, since I'm not that familiar with any differences in sticks.

And if you need to go from Megamall to Cubao, just take the MRT, since it's only two stations away from Ortigas...
