Seemingly there's allot of extra music you can unlock in Outrun 2, including new remixes and the original versions.

Ran some OK times on Palm Beach last night but it seems the best TT'ers use the F40, which I've yet to unlock. The TT mode is so slick - run your race and you're immediately given the option of uploading your ghost. You can then download any ghost from any positiom on the tables to race against.

I've had the chance to hear these and I think some of them can be left "locked" for all I care, but I love how this game is so full of content!

I can't wait to buy this game - in the meantime NIGHT FLIGHT~ ~ /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No suspension tweaking, no driving around dull real-life circuits, no adjusting ride heights.....

This is funny to me. I'm sitting here waiting for GT4 to become available thinking "oooh, better physics, more adjustability, more real tracks, more real cars."

    Perspective.

For a driving series that boasts ultimate realism I find it amusing how Gran Turismo rewards you for buffering your car off other vehicles on corners and hairpins. Who cares if they've modelled the suspension on a Nissan Skyline properly when you can drive said car at 120mps into another vehicle on a corner and end up bashing your way into the lead? Perspective...

Not sure if this list is definitive or not, but here are the unlockables from mission mode (Outrun 2):

    Clear all Stage 0 Missions

Splash Wave - Euro Remix (song)
    Palm Beach - Reversed (track)
    Magical Sound Shower (song)
    Ferrari 288 GTO (car)

    Clear all Stage 1 Missions

    DeepLake - Reversed (track)
Passing Breeze - Euro Remix (song)
    Ferrari Testarossa (car)

    Clear all Stage 2 Missions

    Alpine - Reversed (track)
    Splash Wave - 1986 (song)
    Ferrari F40 (car)

    Clear all Stage 3 Missions

    Castle Wall - Reversed (track)
Magical Sound Shower - 1986 (song)
    Bonus Stage 1 (track)

    Clear all Stage 4 Missions

    Desert - Reversed (track)
Risky Ride - Guitar Mix (song)
    Bonus Stage 2 (track)

    Clear all Stage 6 Missions

    Cloudy Highland - Reversed (track)
    Shiny World - Prototype (song)

I don't care for that part very much. It's too bad it's been like that. I drive clean.

GT4 Prologue imposes penalties for carelessness and/or major driving errors. Hopefully GT4 will have that feature.

I didn't malign Outrun 2. It looks like fun. You don't have to defend your preference to me by harping on GT. I'm OK with you liking what you like about Outrun 2.

No problem, I wasn't really having a go at Gran Turismo, I just find myself producing counter arguments to the seemingly universal consensus that arcade racer = shallow with no replayability. Gran Turismo is held as the pinnacle of racing complexity and depth, yet has glaring inconsistencies and in some ways requires less skill to master than a coin-op racer.

But I respect your preference for sim-racers. You should give Outrun a twirl....it'll certainly be a nice contrast to GT.

So my best offering on Palm Beach is 12th best in global rankings (at time of posting). Anyone care to beat me go ahead and try....he he.

Seems like very few have the game yet. Best way to organise some comp is for thise who have the game to post their live tag here, for other racers to add to freinds. Then we can do simple TT score friends sort to see who's boss.

New unlock discovered. Original Outrun, perfectly emulated! I think the requirements are completing each route in normal arcade mode but not sure.

Trojan X, from those videos you look like a pretty good player. Care to compete over live? If you're willing to put that kind of performance on TT mode over live I'd be up for challenging it.........just give me a ghost to race and I'll demolish it.

Thanks for sharing the vids, but you know, if that is indeed you playing it wouldn't hurt at all to ease off on the self-praise /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Just sent you a PM mate.

My new time for both bonus 1 & 2 are both under 3 minutes. From my head Bonus 1 is 2:59:86, when I get home I'll let you know the time for Bonus 2 if I remember.

I have a question for the Outrun2 pros.

First up, let me apologise in advance if this sounds like blasphemy to seasoned Outrun players. Please feel free to flame:

I have been playing F355 Challenge on the DC for a cuppola years now and it is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite driving game of all time. So for several years I have avoided even the slightest drift like the plague.

Now my questions: Do I absolutely have to drift in O2 for top times or will precision driving get me there, too.
    (I cannot download videos.)

( I bought the game on Friday and my own times, drifting or non-drifting are nothing to go by.)

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on the course you're driving but most sections require a combination approach of taking the tight racing line and powersliding. Palm Beach is an example of a course that requires no powersliding, however.

If you're into a straight-lined approach to driving don't let that put you off Outrun 2. Although it sports very arcade-like handling there's allot of depth and applying good racing line strategy will pay dividends. Rest assured its handling is nothing like the cheap twiching travesty that is Burnout 3. In Outrun 2, colliding with a verge or barrier results in a realistic reduction in speed and loss of time.

Another plus to consider is the superb TT mode, that offers very steep competition and ghost up/downloads.

Agreed about F355, btw. One of the best racers of all time.

MrDark, I just took great pleasure in demolishing your Alpine time, placing myself 3rd on the ranking table. Challenge it, that's if you can hack the pace!
