I'm glad that no one else can see it. I don't like most customized characters. Halos, angel wings, chainsaw on the back, five glowy things.. you can't even see what the character looks like anymore. It removes flavor and in some cases makes the character harder to see. For example, in SF4, people will use Honda and Akuma's costumes with big knots on their back because it's harder to see what's going on, so it gives you an advantage to have a confusing looking character.
I don't want those awful customizations. I'll take my opponent to be in plain costume, thanks!

SRK article on front page today seems to imply that they're keeping the whole package under $60.

I'm all for creativity and customs. The best fighting system with such cool customs layered on top what sparked me so hard when I 1st played VF5 years ago.
I would be disappointed not to be able to see other ppl customs so I will support and buy all DLC but, makes me sad I can't show off my custom to everyone I like to have a trademark look.
Lack of ability to take my customs to locals or tournaments already killing me,
    trying to stay positive.

From a half-glass full perspective: If players/organizers of offline events work a little bit with each other, they can easily through preregistration or before the tourney begins setup everyone's outfits on a saved system file. The question now is how many customized characters can be saved within one file.

I'm not singling you out or picking on you but I think this is one of the killers for people getting better in the versus aspect of the game. their focus falls to the wrong thing that needs improving.

It isn't capris, assless-chaps, or those lo-jacks that sparkle it is, and always will be, the fundamentals of the game that need focusing on. if the worry of the people is no-one can see how boss they look when they're fighting then they're practicing for a Calvin Klein Runway.

not that room doesn't exist for both fundamentals and assless chaps.

With All due respect you are wrong. Thats the problem with VF now and why people think its so bland.. While it does not affect my decision on a purchase.. It is bullshit that i cannot see my opponents items. I love the creativity and randomness of it all. Cutting the appeal short makes no sense for a coupla bucks on items most people might not care about. As far as you being confused to what you opponent is doing.. That is your excuse for shortcomings in recognizing the character you are
    facing.

Your beating a dead horse when it comes to practing. Some people just want to play causally and that is cool giving certain circumstances. Secondly everybody wants to have something to call their own.. especially when it comes to customizing characters for a unique look.

If VF looks bland, that's on the person(s). I love the character designs. The characters are hype because they aren't XtReMe and don't look like they were focused tested for weeabos and 14year olds.

Not gonna lie, I've missed some matches that I'm starting to look at now, just because some assholes like to make ugly customizations.

SDS, I understand your point that you want to see your opponents items. That makes sense, and I don't fault you for that. You will be able to see your opponents items -- just buy the DLC. If you buy the DLC then you can see everyone's customization.

As for myself, and for many others, we don't like those silly looking Akiras with angel wings, halos, kabuki masks, and samurai flags on their back. I don't want to see a Wolf with bozo the clown hair, or a Jeffrey in a thong. I can understand if you want to see that, I respect that. I just don't want it forced down my throat. I also realize that what I find "silly" you may find "cool". That's fine. I'm not saying my style is better. I just think that I should get to see what I like, and you get to see what you like.

So it's a win-win. Those people like you that enjoy these customizations, you can see it by buying the DLC. Those people like myself that don't like them, we don't have to see them. You get what you want, and I get what I want.

It seems like this is the best situation for both of us. People that like customizations can choose to buy the DLC, and the people that don't like it don't. Everyone is happy. Does that make sense, or am I misunderstanding something?

SC5 had an option to hide a person's customizations. I hope VF implements the same idea.

I'm not a fan of "football helmet clown shoes guy" myself.

How does it affect you whether or not I see custom costumes? You have no way to know. How can this affect your enjoyment of the game? ^_^

This is a fair point. I think though, that you can see in this thread that there are others like me who don't like clown characters.

Some costumes do make it hard to see certain features relevant to the gameplay. For example, in the VF if you can see the downed players's legs properly it's possible to dodge rising attacks in some cases. Some costumes made seeing this very difficult.

The only way to make DLC items visible to everyone is pay-to-unlock (like they did with Ver. C). That caused its own shitstorm back in the day... "d00d! It's 4lr34dY 0n my d15c! Eye fugging ownit! WTF pay for me need 2?"

Developers can not win this. Ever.

I admit I was mildly annoyed when I paid for the extra costume items for VF5 only to find out it was disc locked content especially since I had paid full price for the game. However it looks like Sega is offering a better deal for DLC this time around and I will most likely purchase the item bundle.

When I play online My Jeffry is going to be wearing nothing but a speedo with a trout in it, the devil shark balanced on his head and hair, lot's of hair everywhere.

    Deal. With. It.

    Compatibility packs.

In SC and SF I think, you boot the game for the first time and you get a pop up asking you if you want to download the free compatibility pack in order to see other players' costumized characters.

It means you download the items so you can see them for free when other players' characters are wearing them, but you cannot use them yourself as long as you don't pay for the DLC.

SF and SC cost what any new game costs, and the price of DLC is added to that.
VF5FS, the core game, will cost less than that to make up for the DLCs. We don't know exactly how much, but at least they will NOT be charging 60$ and then troll us all by asking even MORE money.

Therefore, with a compatibility pack option, you can choose to only pay to unlock DLCs that have the items that you want, and you can still see other character's customized outfits without having to pay.

It means that if you customize your character because you want to look good on everyone else's TV, it will not be in vain because everyone else who has downloaded the compatibility pack will be able to see how awesome your character looks.

The bad is that you end up paying for unlock codes.
The less bad is that the game itself costs less specifically to make up for the costs of DLCs, so it's not a scam like in other games.
The good is that new players will get to see how great the new items are, so they will be tempted to pay for those and won't regret it. Because the items are that much awesome. And because the base game doesn't cost a whole 60$ already.

Are you for or against compatibility packs?
They allow everyone to see how awesome you look, but in the end you pay for an unlock code. Does it really bother you? To me it seems like the lesser evil, and a necessary evil because of the Microsoft limit.

I believe that if Sega wanted to act greedy, they would sell the game for 60$, digital, and still ask for money for DLCs.

This is cool. Hope SEGA will find a way to do it. My guess is that they're aware but unable to do it because of XBLA restrictions.

Not being able to see other people's customs if you don't have said pack is a bummer. It worries me because there's a possibility stuff like item win poses and pre-fight intros may not make it in. Hope that's not the case.

Here's hoping they can add the data for items after the game is released. If they can release the DLC stuff separately, they could do something like that, but would probably come down to how much it will cost.

I'll probably get all the Items anyway, since it'll still cost less than a disc-based release.
