I'm glad it's an arcade game release cause my Xbox been having a hard time reading games lately. I have to keep opening and closing the tray till it reads it.

The number of items is amazing! I bet Godeater is excited for that too (nudge =D). Will be some awesome looking characters online. I too will buy as much as I can (or within reason) simply to support. Kinda curious (i'm sure all is too) as to how many items per pack and the price. Also, not being able to see the items first will make it tough too.

Super excited about the lobby system.

The training mode sounds awesome. I've heard lots of good things about the VF4:Evo Training Mode. And to have that on this will be great, especially for the new players since i'm sure it'll get into things like ETEG that someone would NEVER know about, unless you came here or someone told you. Even if someone tells you, it doesn't compare to having a mode make and teach you to do it in a "Trial". It's those little (but big) things that you learn about as you go on and make you go "Oh shit, that's dope!" and makes the game that much better to you.

I'm personally glad they waited to give us the most updated version of the game with all this extra content. I mean look at how much FS in the arcades has changed since it first came out. Woulda kinda sucked to have that version for consoles with all the changes that it's had...

Anyways, this is great news all around. I'm very sure the training mode alone will bring new players in to stay after they use it, and see what options you have in this, compared to all the other fighters out there.

This is a perfect analogy to what VF:FS is going to be for us. I really think now, with the powerhouse the internet community is starting to become (especially for fighters) we have an opportunity to change how SEGA relates to its' fans. Maybe, we'll be able to actually start to form a relationship with them that's more than us having to sign petitions to get games we want.

The key factor is that we're all going to have to start showing up to major events that VF is going to be a part of. Those of us that have kept playing should do pretty well, especially since we've been playing for so long now.

When the day comes when stream monsters see me walk on stage for a major, I want them to be hearing "it's Tricky" in the background. That would be sooo hype.

What I mean is SEGA should be more aggressive to promote their product. I know it's unfair to put SF and VF in the same basket but I am very impressive about what Capcom have done in these years. Not only once Capcom announced big news at Taiwanese event and made Taiwanese players actually play at first hand. It's happy to be a SF fan even out side of Japan, and Capcom really takes care of their fans around the world.

If Haunt didn't request for FS tournaments at San Francisco, we would not be able to touch FS before summer release. Should I give a pro to SEGA or Haunt? [IMG] It's not a big deal to support FS on both console for me, but how much longer am I able to play next VF? Another 5 more year I think.

Dennis, I guess i'm not being clear. I have been in the fighting game scene since '91 and other than the first national tourney for sf2 and hyper fighting, I can tell you there have been no official tourney sponsorship outside of japan until the last few years. Battle in the bay and and Evo were both community effort long before Capcom decided to throw money at it. You are a good player and new VFers will look to for inspiration to play this game. If you have a negative attitude towards the situation as bad as it might be, how do you expect people to stick around?

We asked for Sega's help and now we got it so why not be happy about whats actually happening? Also, Haunts is helping the VF community with the tournaments and I very much appreciate that. However, had Sega not spent the time to ship the cabinets from japan, there would be no tournament.

Most recently, the community asked for a lobby system which was clearly not planned but now it will be included in the release. I think that's a step in the right direction, don't you?

Capcom did an excellent job to promote SF4 series and SFxTK in Taiwan. Countless times that Yoshinori personally show up at Taiwanese event and represents Capcom to announce big news. I can't recall which version, probably SF4 arcade edition or SFxTK, Capcom brought the entire new systems to let Taiwanese players play at first hand before Japanese players did. I can assume Capcom does the same way in South Korea, maybe not that much but still. Every time when I see these news on website, I actually feel good for those SF fans.

Of course I'm excited about FS is coming, but ask yourself is it really necessary to wait until the end of June for digital copy? Does anyone outside of Japan really care about KS6 or who is gonna be the winner of it? Another 3 moths hold after KS6 to release FS console version is kind of stupid for me, SEGA can just do a patch to update newest info if they want to. Btw, the cabinet in SF is not the same as in Japan, but I don't care. [IMG]

I really see both sides of Dennis and LA's discussion. I think it is nice that they're finally doing something, but I think overall, at the corporate level in Japan, they've handled the series really poorly with regards to console and the audience outside of Japan.

seeing this video though makes me want to bring up something I mentioned to LA while watching the stream of the tourney here a couple weeks ago:

even in the footage of this video, aside from the inclusion of Taka and Jean, and the one re-vamped stage they show, why would ANYONE who wasn't keen to try VF5, or who bought VF5 and didn't get into it, buy this game?

Watching this footage, unless you're a hardcore fan who's been watching FS videos, this game looks EXACTLY like Vanilla VF5. The costumes are the same, the moves are the same, the stages are the same... 95% of what players will encounter if they pick up this game will look and feel exactly like Vanilla, with 2 more characters. Lobbies, Items you have to pay for, a better training mode (again on the exact same stage)... none of this is going to get ONE person who basically didn't like this game before to try it. Remember when on the "Avoiding the Puddle" podcast Aris (who plays most fighting games well and is a respected & very involved taste-maker in the US scene) said that while he WANTS to like the game, VF5 looks basically like VF2? Why would he change his mind for FS? what's this game doing to draw him in that Vanilla didn't, on the surface?

and the thing we have to remember is this: it's been 5 YEARS! Anyone with any kind of critical thought will argue that in 5 years other franchises have introduced entirely new games. VF comes back 5 years later with the same game with 2 new characters? It doesn't matter that FS's system is changed, or that Giant Swing now throws people forwards... watching this footage, the average person will not be able to see any difference

If I had the ear of AM2 and the producers, I'd say that all default costumes and stages need to appear drastically different from Vanilla. So that maybe you'd see the "stormtrooper" Kage outfit, or the Leather Jacket Akira as default. Goh's stage could be daytime... These kinds of little visual touches could really help towards giving the game a sense of newness. They should add a few new stages for console, or put in some VF4 or VF2 stages... the VF1 models should come back...

If I were heading up this game, I'd say nothing out of the box should look like vanilla, in terms of character models, stages, fonts etc (while you can of course change all that stuff yourself if that's what you like, default 1P Jeffry or whatever)

nothing this game is doing right now is going to draw anyone away from TTT2, SFxTekken etc. Those games are NUTS to look at and have pushed the genre forward in terms of what's possible, while giving fans what they've been screaming for for years. They're like wet dream games for the fans of those series. In FS's case, I really think that while WE'LL all play it & buy it, for everyone else it's too little too late

maybe one year after the XBLA/PSN release it will be released as platinum/classic retail disc with EVERY DLC stuff.

Nice to see the promotion of the game by Sega. From the looks of it though, they've conceded the game won't have much mainstream appeal so they're just trying to make sure to reach the niche audience.

Sega haven't done the best of jobs on many things, but in the end, all I really want is the game and people to play with. Sega will finally deliver on the game, but on our end, the community has to help build itself, the way 3rd Strike did.

While I'm excited about 10000 custom items, I'm wondering if the item list is going to look like...

      Black Bob Cut
      Brown Bob Cut
      Blonde Bob Cut
      Orange Bob Cut
      Red Bob Cut
      Blue Bob Cut
      Purple Bob Cut
      Pink Bob Cut

      :p

      @akiralove

I agree that the footage on gamespot doesn't sell the differences very well (and was ropey quality or an early build), but I disagree with you about VF5 et al being no different in aesthetics from VF2. And the big difference between VF5 and FS I can really see helping is that the game's combo inputs are more dualshock/xbox pad friendly; especially for the poster boy.

The AM2 Japanese producers in their interview recently explained how they went to soft body physics in Virtua Fighter 5 from rigid body physics in VF4, showing off Taka hit the floor from a Jean axe kick(?) and watching the subtle muscle motion and lighting of his skin on impact with the ground before he came to rest. That is not something SC/Tekken or DOA do, and was something that coming from years of (Playstation) tekken/SC I noticed straight away when I stumbled upon a Virtua Fighter 5 video on a website, before I bought the game a few days later for the PS3 as my first serious gaming experience with VF as a franchise.

Chuck in that this is the first time the larger selling PS3 audience(from VF4/VF4Evo/VF5) will have the ability to play it online(for free) and the DLC will hopefully keep it highly visible in PSN and XBL stores for many weeks, I think the game stands to do really well over a long duration. Maybe more like Everybodys golf world tour; that incidentally has just had a patch announced to add 3D and Move support, most likely off the back of a stable tail of sales and DLC success.

You do not need the original Virtua Fighter 5 game to be able to play Final Showdown game (stand-alone game).

I'm quite sure the the different colors of items are counted as separate items in the "10,000 plus items" list. So roughly, 500+ items for each character - but roughly 200 items are unique (not just a color swap).
    12. Dragonps
      Dragonps
I wonder how many Items are in the game itself without dlc then? Must be alot I think I once tallied each character to have at least 250.000 different combinations. Maybe the more elaborate items such as those glowing arm things will be dlc?

The amazing thing about it is they done it first with the costume item thing.

So I was just pointed to the video and here's what I saw:

0.5)they ported the game to console and the demo looks spot on
1)they sent a sega rep out in front of a camera to talk about the game and answer questions (that could be answered)
      2) they implemented a lobby system for online gameplay - something that everyone wanted
      3) they implemented a more comprehensive training system to get people into the mechanics of the game and build better players
4)they re-affirmed their commitment to getting the game out in arcades to gain exposure.

So that's 4.5 GREAT things that SEGA is doing to make this game a success. My question to this site and its community is what are YOU doing?

you are more responsible for this game's success than you credit and if you cannot recognize that then this game is dead as soon as it publishes.

To be fair, Goh's stage is now on fire.

I'm really not getting the Sega hate from some folks right now. We're getting the game, Sega are listening to us and giving us the major features that we want, they're promoting the game, they've essentially said that they will continue to support the game after release with DLC costumes and potentially other stuff.

I personally think Sega are giving a hell of a lot right. They have already given us some nice ports of:
      Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
      OutRun 2006
      After Burner Climax
      Daytona USA
      Guardian Heroes
      Sonic CD

And now we're getting FS, Jet Set Radio and House of the Dead 3 and 4, and while the first four Dreamcast ports weren't brilliant, we still got them, so stop focussing on the past negatives and be happy.

I have one question of spectator mode. Are there only two players allowed to play and rest of the people have to wait? Or they can also setup another game at the same lobby?
    18. Feck
      Feck
They didn't mention pricing but i'm going to assume they're not going to go down the Capcom route and overcharge for every inconsequential piece of DLC. Also it's DLC for a videogame, you really think it's going to cost a shit ton and break our banks?.

      This x10!

SEGA seem to be on fire recently, i'm really happy with some of the stuff they're putting out. They're at least showing that the older fans matter to them now, a while back it seemed they couldn't care less.
    19. Rodnutz

2 people play while the 0ther 6 SPECTATE (WATCH). Lobbies are one thing, but spectator mode refers to you get to watch the other players fight. Like the original MVC3 had lobbies, but you couldn't SPECTATE (WATCH) the match of the 2 people fighting.
    20. Dennis0201
      Dennis0201
Got it, I thought we are able to handle different fights at the same lobby.
