Sugata said what I was going to add. OM can beat throws in certain situations, too. At one point, I was sure OM always beats throws, but that is not the case. It's mostly a range issue as far as I can tell.

Something to look for that I hope will be in the Socal tourney vids when they come out is that Yosuke would follow a successful DM with an OM in the same direction. You end up behind your opponent. Not something I would suggest doing, because you already have a good advantage after a successful DM. But an interesting technique none the less.

In some cases (such as DMing a P or d+P) not enough for a guaranteed punishment. OM K to the back gives backcrumple, and for instance characters with lowbackthrow get a lot of damage (jeff comes into mind, Adamyuki does that)

No. I got back into fighters with VF5. I played SFII hyper whatever in like '94 and vf4 evo non competitively when it 1st came out. But vf5 was my 1st serious foray into a fighter. I tried SF4, but i've really had little reason/desire to play other fighters (a testament to vf5 IMO).

Gentleman Thief does this as well. Or he's done this multiple times to me at least.

I like to try it occasionally. It really feels like a confident move when u nail it. DM OM K back crumple. From my experience it works really well against lei fei and eileen, since they both have long canned punch combos that those players usually want to use.

I dont use it myself, because all the characters I normally play with (Akira, Kage, Sarah) get bupkus from the back. Akira can get a ton of damage from a sidehit though.

OM is sort of like Tekken's evade. One of the differences is that moves in Tekken will track when a hitbox is shifted off-axis. This isn't true in VF. A throw or a circular/half-circular striking attack is just programmed to connect when the system detects a DM. The only instance of actual tracking that I encounter on a regular basis are moves connecting after a successful DM because of an input that was entered.

I don't know if moves in Tekken will track more if the system reads an input from the opponent. It feels like that's the case, however an evade can be cut short on any frame I believe, so entering an attack will effectively lessen the range of the evade.

Also in Tekken, some characters have better evades than others. Lili's evade was notoriously good in DR. I can't say if some character's OMs are better than others in VF. It would make sense given that hitboxes are variable. I've only heard of instances where an OM will avoid a given character's attack because of their hitbox, but not because of the character's hitbox performing the OM.
