Rod, since after a normal hit by Lau's [6][6][P]+[K] is -2, you might as well just crouch dash like in the guard challenge against Akira...

    Checking the handy movelists...

in evob (the game in the video) lau is +3 after normal hit. and then, of course, he's backturned...

in evo & ft the downknife executes in 14 frames, the sweep in 16 and the bodycheck in 17.

it's like pokemon...try to block 'em all!!

On another note, bigboy and I played today and we have come to the conclusion that Jeffry's coconut cracker low back throw is the finest move in the game.

don't take this the wrong way, because I have no quarrels with you and I do respect all the information that you share with the community. I actually try to utilize most of the stuff you post here. But did you even look at the vid and what i was trying to accomplish. I killed like 5 birds with 1 stone. I am well aware of the crouch dash fuzzy as you can also see in the vid. I actually practice that technique a lot. The whole point of the vid that everyone keeps missing is I am just trying to give people ideas on how to develop there game. Nothing more! Just me sharing some of the things that I came up with that works for ME. If it can be useful for someone else then by all means use it. I just want to grow as a player and I was simply just putting something out there for people who are having a hard time growing.

yeah, the +3 doesnt matter much because the nitaku game is slightly broken. it takes more frames for the opponent to turn around & throw, so even if it's 1 frame more than required the crouch dash should work with no hassle.

First, to Sanjuro... aside from what BK said, in FT it's -2 on normal, -6 on any counter hits. The vid was practice routines for use in FT...

Rod, no offense taken. It is great for something like this to be done, I'm definitely not denying that. In fact, your vid brought out a lot of subtle issues usually ignored. Everyone can definitely benefit from the discussions that follows. No offense taken.

Please don't think I am trying to downplay your efforts or the ideas you are presenting, but rather it's just something to keep in mind amidst the new information. Like what you said earlier, people learning the game shouldn't think textbook like, and I am trying to do just the same. Since we both know that in VF, in any given situation, there is a circle of possibilities. The concerns you have, about just wanting to put something to share, is the samething that drives many of us who spends time dissecting this game. So definitely, no offense intended or taken, just some discussion and some advice if it can help. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Srider, my point was that suggesting fuzzy guard in that situation based upon Lau being "+2" was spurious since Lau IS backturned and immediate throw isn't a first layer concern. That situation for Lau is a basic mid/low guess (or a guess right to punish Lau game if you prefer)...you cannot "fuzzy" and avoid each of the sweep, the bodycheck & the downknife.

I think we all understand this and I can read the movelists as well as anyone...I was just throwing a little spit out there since it seemed to me that you were smarting after the discussion with myke and decided to "expose" Konjou's introduction of the bdteg application to that situation as redundant since there was something (in the same vid even) much simpler which wouldn't have provoked all the bruhaha.

But all that doesn't matter now and everyone has made up...I've enjoyed the discussion and I've come away with some stuff...

Konjou...since you're so keen on the pk fuzzy exercise...have you ever tried to block the dbpm & [3][P]+[K] but watch for the throw whiff and rather than [G] after the whiff as if the dbpm were coming, [P] for a yoho or [P]+[G] for a throw? It's tough!! I think you might even be able to interrupt the LBF with something (sgpm maybe? sidekick?) upon noticing that the doublepalm didn't come out (I only first tried this today & didn't really get that far). One hell of a reaction exercise...

yea i have played around with many things in that excersize. For example, if double palm doesn't come out I sabaki([4][G]+[P]+[K]) the [3][P]+[K] or shoulder / yohou the throw wiff. Since you tried it out for the first time you already know how much fun it is.

All of this just makes me realize that you, imo, need to do specific exercises like this to take your VF to the next level. I know some players here in Swe train these things but I've been ignoring it to much for my own good and will start catching up to speed. I don't think you can do these things on reaction without being totally drilled into a situation... what's interesting is that there are not to many situations like these actually... (maybe 4-6 per character to practice?).. so knowing them and being able to respond to them in ways like this could instantly skyrocket a persons game.

I <3 VF trainingmode... to the trainingroom! *jumps into the batmobile*

You hit it right on the spot. It is exactly this kind of repetition that trains you to be able to execute out these written down strategies when you are actually playing the game, and at the right time. When I say punish things by reaction, I'm not claiming some super human ability to react to split second actions, but with every character, there will be certain situations when learning how to react to certain options will encompass the majority of the logical options that your opponent may choose, and once you show your opponent your ability to do so, then that's where the fun begins in VF.
