1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

    Random thoughts:

    - Kage: at this point I feel like I almost got a handle on him where I'm not playing joust, and I have a flow chart going that's some what easy to stick to. Around the 100 match mark, I was still having trouble with him getting a grasp on him, but several matches after that, the muscle memory started to finally kick in.

    - It was stop and go as most early play was for me, but now I'm starting to overwhelm players that I wasn't before, even though I 'knew' I should be able to. Now I'm coming across members at this forum and they PK punish my stings and I aren't falling for what other people do. Either way I can get something going and it feels more natural. Progress.

    - I'm stepping a lot more. A LOT MORE, but at the same time it's too much. This is costing me since I'm more focused on movement than attacking when have the chance. I have a few patterns I'm going to stick to for now, just to get a better grasp on how my opponent reacts. This also shows how laggy of a match I'm in for ...

    - Kage makes me want to play Jacky, but if I pick him or El Blaze, I start to miss him, lulz.

Sounds like you are doing great! And making progress fast too!

Kage is an expert level character with so many awesome tools!

It’s good that you are stepping more! It’s good to keep working at it and even make countless mistakes with it! Definitely get a hold on if/how your opponent punishes your movement. Especially if it’s by throw or half circular.

A common trick to punish people who like to step is to do a jab so they will evade it and either 6P or 2P. I especially like 2P and you want to be aggressive to do mid or delay throw ASAP when the 2P hits. It feels good! Throwing steppers feels good too!

I’m going to record a question and answer video sometime soon and post it to my YouTube. Feel free to ask me anything about myself, VF, my VF experiences, my esports experience, running amusement centers, even restaurant and customer service work if you like!

The options can be overwhelming, but it's coming along, haha. Right now it's not getting flustered when I go into Back Turned or stance. I'll instinctively do LTE or press a button multiple times, way more than I should. That's becoming less a thing, and my choices are more natural and flow chart-y. It's becoming too predictable in some cases though, but I see that as a positive considering where I was at against human comp.

I'm guessing online is eating my input, but transitioning into stance is becoming close to natural. The choices are clearer on what to do as the first option into a new stance. It might not always work, but at least I know where I stand when knocked out of it and can go for the proper defense tech.

EDIT: GGs @Chanchai I was trying to force my game while not paying attention to what I was defending against. I did happen to save it, only to overwrite with a match I trimmed from the footage >_<. I have other matches to watch, but I was glad to end on that note and have our match recorded, only to delete it >_<

Guess who updated their password!!!! Now if I can just change my name...

I was fortunate enough to have a friend let me borrow his PS4. And I got the stream all figured out!

The name change isn't the only thing...I also have switched my main to Akira, with Eileen in my back pocket.

But it's amazing to see that this thread still exists. It's kinda crazy looking back and old tournaments/posts.

Been doing a few matches a night since the game landed and I'm up to 6th Dan. I still gotta get some of my muscle memory back for certain skills. I managed to start a great Blaze wallcombo that uses two hit-throws at the start but I flubbed the second one by hitting the wrong button combination.

Battle Lounge plans to be doing online tournaments and you all should consider participating and helping! These are PNW based online events!

I might not be able to participate because of my work and family schedule but I'm doing my best to support and if I could, I totally would participate in these!

Here is a link to their discord server! It will expire in 7 days (the link, not the discord)!

I should probably take a break to let some things sink in, but at the same time, I just want to hang out with this game. Still haven't done a room match, still jut doing ranking. Having brain farts on follow-ups and losing, but oh well....

We should do a hang out sometime, but my schedule is all over the place right now... Though I just spent all night learning more about YouTube because I have a lot of things I think can be done with it lol. I think you guys will have reason to keep checking my YouTube channel ;)

That said, I will DM you a link to my discord, it's a private and personal one but we can chat and sometimes coordinate. The room system is frustrating at first... it's good to have a friend walk you through it...

Oh and here is the link to my YouTube channel. You're going to be seeing it change a lot over the coming days... though in subtle ways. But it'll be a useful resource for everyone!

What method are you using fir thriw break?

If it’s about the Yomi, which throw directions have grabbed you usually?

  14. Chanchai

    Chanchai Well-Known Member

On Yomi, there are a few logics you can test out in your opponent:

    * opportunist: Always the strongest throw first. Might switch if it is broken.

    * The opposite: they do the direction that is not strongest and if it’s broken they may start throwing the strongest.

    * The Odds/The Neutral: Agaibst strong opponents, a good strategy is throwing neutral until the opponent has broken neutral a few time’s repeatedly. Juicebox favors this strategy.

    * The Random: you never know what you’re going to get. Protecting yourself from the ring out and then the strongest after that may be optimal.

As a reminder, Final/Ultimate Showdown has the lazy throw escape system which means you can hold throw escapes, you don’t need to tap them and there is no multiple throw escapes. Because of this, you should be holding a throw escape input in vulnerable situations and no longer than you would hold Guard in similar situations. If you whiff an attack and are in recovery, it is good to hold a throw escape in this situation too.
Throw escapes In This game are like an extra layer of armor for you

when you do reversals (aka counters) and when you evade, you should input throw escapes in these situations too.

    Portland's Classic VF Rivalry Returns!

It has been a long, long time since Rayblade X and I fought, since Ray moved to Hawaii a decade ago.

I am happy to report that the connection on Ultimate Showdown is great and we are able to resume our VF battles! True to our matchups of the past, we like to hard counter each other and Vanessa's 9P sets the tone!

Rayblade and I go way back to the old Arcade days of the 90's in Beaverton, Oregon! Ray was the Portland legend in the arcade days and he helped many generations of fighting game players and was often the top player in many of them!

Our history with VF had moments in VF2, but only a bit. Our rivalry and friendship began in 2000 shortly after I went to New York to play VF3tb on Dreamcast. I asked a common friend to connect us and the rest is history!

Ray tends to be awake and playing around the time that my Graveyard Sessions finish up, so mornings are a great opportunity for us to get sets in. I have been fighting some Defensive Stance Vanessa players in recent times and I am really happy to be able to train and spar with Ray's Vanessa now, too!

Fighting Vanessa in Defensive Stance is rough and I have to be prepared to lose a lot of exchanges. Even though Lion isn't the most high damage of characters, I still have to make the exchanges I do win count. I've learned that if I focus too much on just hitting Vanessa and not on doing the damage, then I am playing her game and it is often a losing one. That is why you will see me swing more for the fences against a Defensive Stance Vanessa. It is tough!!!

Yesterday, I was so happy that I could continue my VF Rivalry with Rayblade X who now lives in Hawaii!

This week continues to be extra special as this morning I was able to continue my rivalry with MasaRED too! MasaRED currently lives in Osaka, Japan and it's just absolutely wonderful being able to have matches like this with him still!

These matches here play exactly like our matches do in general whether online or offline! Enjoy!

Timestamps in the description so you can get straight to the sets you want to see!

    ABOUT MASARED

MasaRED was an online presence in America since Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox 360 brought Virtua Fighter to online play! Well respected and acknowledged by top players in America for his Shun in Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua FIghter 5: Final Showdown.

Masa would finally be seen at Final Showdown tournaments in Seattle in 2012 and 2013, winning pretty much every local tournament he attended. He would have an impressive Top 3 showing at Seattle's "End of Summer" tournament (a regional) in the summer of 2012 with exciting battles with Northern California's Renzo and Victoria BC's AyuFanboy!

He attended and won the Northwest Majors V tournament, climbing out of the Loser's bracket in a Loser's final with Portland's Yangsing, and then facing Portland's Chanchai in the Grand Finals, successfully resetting the bracket and taking the championship!

MasaRED currently lives in his native Japan. MasaRED does not have a public social media presence. MasaRED currently plays with the Hori Real Arcade Pro.V Silent Hayabusa.

Good afternoon all! I'm new here - I used to play in the arcades in Tokyo for VF4, Evo, Final Tuned, and then VF5. The recent PS4 game has brought me back in - I'm very rusty. Only level 21 on the Ultimate Showdown and climbing my way up. I really want to play with people IRL or online if they are the area. I played a lot of Neo Geo and VF with people in Tokyo back in the day (was on neo-geo.com for years and year as RBjakeSpecial) - well I'm excited to be here.

Please add me to the list! Looks like I need to get my PSN tag in my signature things.

Hi Jake, I'm excited to play you! That's an awesome history! For offline events, which area are you living in now?

I'm usually available to play in the graveyard hours. That said, what are th ebest times for you to play?

    Welcome to Northwest VF!

I live on the east side in Redmond, WA. Most of the time I play after work for a short time in the afternoons or on the weekend. Definitely hit me up if you see my gamertag online, I need to shake some of the rust off, it's kind of hard only getting to play best of three rounds with ranked.

[Been playing ranked again. Gonna try to start joining rooms or making some. I'm still doing ranked just because I'm trying to get matches in and "have a good time". Still getting matches but not as frequently. Switching characters somewhat helps :p

I have some weird hangup about joining room mates because I'm not sure my connection bis up to snuff. I would try anyway.
