Update: Someone asked in our Facebook group what @steelbaz even talks about if he's not complaining about PSN (LOL, everyone understands this question and the humor in it). And I took the opportunity to expand more thoughts on meeting with Steelbaz that night ^_^

Two big sessions in Portland this week!

    Tuesday @ 7pm - 3am (Downtown Dojo)
NW Gentlemen's Fight Club Ranbats 0108 (The end of Season 1!)
R Panda hosts this weekly Ranbats + Casuals. These have been awesome sessions with good times and good games. The Ranbat format has been excellent for weekly sessions!

    Friday @ 7pm - 12am (Guardian Games)
Friday Night Casuals! Public sessions at public spaces are back and now at Guardian Games (which attracts a lot of gamers of all types, I play card games there). This is probably about as public as it gets!

UPDATE: At the moment, the Guardian Games sessions are every other Friday, which skips this Friday.

Possibly coming soon: Casuals in Milwaulkee (I can't spell), Oregon.

Note to other states: let me know ahead of time if there are events in Washington, Idaho, West Canada, Montana, Alaska, etc! I plan to post a weekly announcement of upcoming events!

Had a great time at the Ranbat (0108) and sessions tonight!
So glad I was able to fight it out for my third Ranbat victory (in a row)!

The random seeding was insane today! I fought R Panda in the first round and Fatbear in the second! The nerves were jacked pretty high for both Panda and I! We both fought very patiently, sometimes cripplingly patient!

The second round fight with Fat Bear was my favorite game I played today, though I committed too many un-checked 8KKs (well, they were checked but I gambled too much and poorly on delays hitting Fat Bear but he doesn't fall for this ever). Some real serious fighting and I had to try to throw Fat Bear off with more patience (and less followup attacking) than normal and careful application of low attacks. I was also very fortunate to guess properly a good amount when throw escaping. Going for low attacks is risky because Fat Bear is very capable of doubling down on hop kicks if he catches on to it early enough. To try to reduce this, I tried really hard to lower the consistency of my low attacks, trying to make them more deliberate and less habit-based.

Congratulations to Paracles for scoring an upset victory against Hellsap in the Semifinals and to making it to the Finals! I had to keep my adrenaline and focus up for the Paracles match. Even though Paracles is much less experienced than me, he is an opponent I do fear getting knocked out of a single elimination single game format against--his Brad can do damage if you let it and to his credit, he's pretty decent when you shove him into guessing game situations. He plays more on guessing, which can be very scary at times if you over-read it. Because of this, I have to remind myself to always play patient and really try to use movement and spacing to encourage mistakes. Trying to rush Paracles can be dangerous because sometimes it feels like he's rolling a dice in his mind and his Brad can make the good rolls count big! Fortunately for me, I won the match and tonight's Ranbat ^_^

Thanks a lot to everyone who came out tonight! I was so glad that the newest additions to the Northwest VF crew (from Salem) came down! Eli, keep it up, I noticed improvements in your game and it's only getting better! It's great to have another Pai in the mix! Goggles, I really enjoyed our set and watching your matches in the Ranbat! Hellsap & Digital Watches, thanks for the Guilty Gear tips!

I think I only played in 5 (of 8) Ranbats this season, so I imagine I'll be third place in the rankings at best. But I am really enjoying all of these, and I'm glad I was able to continue the streak for now ^_^

P.S. It's too bad that the equipment hasn't been available to capture the matches from last week 0107 and this week 0108. I feel that 0107 was the best VF I've been playing since the Northwest Majors tournament in June.

I want to say thank you to everyone that made it out to any Northwest Gentlemen's Fight Club Ranbats, and I would like to think that NWVFR Season 1 has been pretty successful! We had a consistent showing of eight or more players almost every week, with a high of 13 entrants, and a total of 19 ranbat participants! The final point tally ended with myself, Chanchai and Hellsap taking first, second and third respectively, though I have to give a ton of credit to Nick who tied with me in total wins and was only a few points away from over taking me entirely.

Here is your complete season 1 ranking points listing!

The first season ended with our LiveGamerPortable giving us a bit of trouble. The next season will begin Tuesday, October 15th to give us time to return the machine and allow Season 2 to end in the first week of December, in time for a holiday break. Thank you all for being patient as we work out the bugs of our "first draft" season.

Tuesday casuals will continue, and I'm hoping I can share news of a pay-to-play tournament coming in the near future, though details are not yet ready. In any case, let's play more Virtua Fighter!

First offline session since PAX, last night.

I felt I did worse than I thought I would(thought I did better at the PAX meetup), but that was mainly because Zass played VERY solid. Played a lot of the poke game with him, and I can see the that playing Reduced VF(name?) is really paying off. Just solid, if predictable, fundamentals. It was good seeing the amount of evades being pulled off.

I used a lot more GTE than I'd like, since TEG is a more solid option, but oh well. If there was one thing we NEED to work on is Throw Escapes. We were hitting each other with Forward Throws way too much.

My execution on 2P side I thought I was improving on but no go. Couldn't get the Crouch Dashes when I wanted, which means I can't Fuzzy or buffer While Rising moves effectively from that side, let alone ECD/ECDFG.

I mentioned predictable in the first paragraph, because it was, but at the same time it was scary to make the wrong decisions which made me play more cautious. At the same time I felt my reaction time was off, so that's when I started using more GTE. I do get to one track minded in that I'm trying to hit Iaigeri and even letting free damage go in lieu of trying to hit it. I did make the adjustment of holding forward while using GTE so it let me have forward TE buffered while being able to punish with Iaigeri and that helped us both in the later sets, as Zass was mixing up his throws between back and neutral. Even in spots where it would be considered "wrong" to do those directions.

I think a few more sessions like this and we'll be spacing a lot more and working on our movement which is LOOOOOONG overdue.

Really fun session with Femto. I feel like we both improved a lot. We went back and forth, but at the end I couldn't touch that Jacky. YEEEAH!

Agreed that "reduced set VF" helps fundamentals. I think playing Akira also helped me be more aggressive with Wolf. Looking forward to more sessions, I think we're playing a lot smarter and less relying on tricks.

Great stuff last night! Awesome meeting kil--good Lei Fei, he gave me hell after adjusting to Lion spacing (and Lei traps) and reading my game more :)

Jaye fought very well and Chris really improved his matchup against my Lion!

Btw, to clarify Chris improving his matchup against my Lion, I mean we are fighting on close to equal footing as he's punishing my habits and setting me up to do options he knows he can punish me for doing (Panda does this really well against me). From the first round of our matches, Chris made me fight him like I would fight any national top player and he took that first game along with others

Hello All, I don't know if any NW players still post here but I was curious if any of you played Dead or Alive 5? Me and the few of us who play here are trying to get an offline scene going to represent the Northwest.

The reason I'm posting on a VF board is because this game is the closest to our own. We even have 4 VF characters on our roster now. A lot of the former VF players in Asia have picked up DoA due to the similarities and guest characters so I wanted to see how successful that could be here.

Do any of you play Dead or Alive or would you be interested in learning?
