Even though you only select one to use, akuma still has the firecracker and another super along with the selected (the oter one is down,down,down + 3 punches)

 

In a strange turn of events, I should be able to come this Sunday, cos my gf has changed to meeting on Monday (we are both off work then).

Not played VF since last Sunday, been caning T5, 3rd Strike and RE4. Just done the double el gigante scene, with just a default pistol. The scene after with the novistadors is a head ache and can't get past it. I will come up with a strategy to do it though, I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED IN MY NO MERCHANT QUEST! LOL.

 

Hey Dan, I'll give you a quick mofo's guide to 3rd strike from what I know.

LEARN TO PARRY (High, Low, Air, Red). lol this is essential as when you can parry you're opening yourself up to big damage potential. If you play players better than you, they will parry the crap out of you and mash you up (eg Scott and Umer!).

LEARN TO SUPERCANCEL Again, gives big damage and chains supers into combos.

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE OF EX MOVES Most do different things or have different priorities.

LEARN BASIC STRINGS/COMBOS eg Akuma's: MP > HP or (courtesy of Scott) Ken's: crossup MK > MP > HP > dragon punch or fireball XX super, or Yang's MP > HP > +HP etc...



CHARACTERS:

KEN: Top tier, cheap and dirty. Big damage easily but some stuff he has is bad priority. The skank everyone can use.

AKUMA: Good char but small health and takes mad damage. You can still do LP LP LK MK but you need 2 full super bars to do it, same with LP+MP+HP as Matt said. They're his "secret" supers in that he has them already. But he doesnt have any EX moves. Can come up with loads of dirty set ups into Raging Demon.

RYU: Still good but not as good as Ken.

SEAN: Weakest Shotokan, low tier, don't use unless for a laugh haha.

CHUN LI: Pure skank, can punish loads, big damage etc...Ken and Chun Li pwn!

DUDLEY: Badass mofo (see Scott's Dudley), very solid char and some mad combos.

MAKOTO: Top char, she has some sick moves can be awkward to fight against.

ORO: Good char, some mad juggles even madder super combos.

REMY: Closest thing to getting Guile in 3rd strike, can play him in a similar way I guess, sonic booms n flash kicks etc

YANG and YUN: Different chars that used to have the exact same fighting style, now quite different from one another. Good for poking, pressure, fun juggles and mad super combos. Very fast, both have a pretty complex 3rd super to use properly. Same with Urien.

URIEN: Crazy set ups with his Aegis Reflector super (can get guaranteed damage in many situations by hitting your opponent both high and low) a mixture of a "charge" char and a "fireball" char.

Q: Mad char, don't know much about him but big damage potential.

TWELVE: Not really seen many people use him but X COPY super can be used to good effect if you know your opponent's char well.

NECRO: Not a clue about him, never touched him or seen him used.

ALEX: Hmmm, first I thought he may be a Guile type char but he aint at all. More a grappler type. Same as...

HUGO: Basically the closest to Zangief in 3rd strike, some mad throws and set ups...plus 100% super combos in the right place.

ELENA: Don't like playing her and know next to nothing about her. To better players she's supposed to be parry bait as her animations are so fluid, it's easy to parry her. I ain't that good at parrying atm, still learning.

IBUKI: VERY FAST! lol good char in the right hands (like Makoto) but I've never seen anyone using her properly.



TOP TIER:

Ken, Chun Li, Yun, Urien, Makoto and Dudley (as far as I'm aware).

If we do go ahead with a 3rd strike tourney, it'll be same set up as the VF ones...2 chars only, league system to knockout. Shouldn't be a problem with 2 set ups.

Try to get to mine around 12 ish to get things running nice and smoothly.

 

Necro is the nearest thing to Dhalsim, but IMHO he sucks major ass and the design/sound and pretty everything that made Dhalsim so UBER cool (IMHO) is lost on this piece of shit.

Ken and Chun Li pretty much own this game for free IMHO, and I WISH Hugo could fuck off and morph into Zangief. Might risk buying CPJ for a bit of SPD Mayhem practice for Sunday.

Not touched (and plan to touch for that matter) VF, on the back burner for the time being.

 

For only £10, I don't think you can afford not to get CFJ, it's such mad fun and SPD will connect from anywhere on the screen it seems.

Don't have a clue about Necro at all but he certainly doesn't appeal to me, very odd char. atm I'm caning Yang, Yun and Urien in that order.

I'll definately be practising VF for sunday tho, my commands were bad last session, need to hone those inputs again.

Do any of you guys have Xbox Live? I'd like to play you guys in 3S and CFJ as I dabble in those games as well. (actually my fav SF is AE) I hope the connection would be tolerable since I live in NYC and you guys are in the UK. My Livetag is Shagtastic101 /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

 

No Xbox for me, im playing it on ps2. Didnt realise Raging Deamon was still in it, awesome. Dont even know what down down down 3p does yet, will try some time. It seem too much effort learning a new fighting game especially as I have noone to play against but I'll give you all a game on it when I see you next. Not gonna have any money for a while so not sure when it will be though.

 

Anyone got Alpha 3? will play you at that as well.

 

The Early SF's are the best by far IMHO.

3rd Strike is good, but still prefer Alpha 3 if I'm being honest. I think what it boils down to is I miss Zangief and Dhalsim in 3rd Strike, and Necro and Hugo are poorly designed character's IMHO. But that's just me. Still like Shoto's and ChunLi, but I do get bored easily.

your match with optimus was cool, I have been playing Alpha 3 on my PSP against xeion alot lately and it's got me back intoAlpha but without the parry it just feels kinda empty.

 

You pretty good at 3rd strike then?

 

I completly forgot that you can't dash forwards on SFA3 until i got it for the PSP, I keep putting myself in situations where i'd dash in.

I'll be bringing my chipped PS2 with me, so we can have a dual set up for SF3 aswell... i warn you though... i really suck at SF3

I'm pretty good, I know alot of set ups, mix ups and mind games, and my juggles are close to max damage.

My parrying is the best it's ever been, once your parrying is good it becomes aguessing game of wether to parry high or low while throw teching.

Yeah, I know it's weird. I've had the game for well over a year now or so and I've only ever played the old SF2 games...don't know why I didn't get into 3rd strike sooner.

There is a big scene for it in London, with regular Ranking Battles (same for T5 atm). I'm not on xbox live myself atm but I do plan to get online someday. I'd probably play more HSF2/CvS2 than 3S or CFJ...but they're all bloody good fun.

Dan, Scott is top at 3S he's just being modest. Umer is a monster at it too but you don't know him as he doesn't play VF.

It's not that hard to learn you know...only a basic knowledge of 2D fighters is needed to get you started.

Matt: LOL yeah, I added in Jin and Hei as my chars even tho I only picked them once as well. It's so stupid tho, if you play with a "normal" char like Kaz, it's so hard to win over a skank like Steve or Nina or something...the game just shouldn't be like that. Like I has having such a hard time using Kaz against Steve...even tho Feng is one of my mains, I hate to have to pick someone just to get wins.

Ade: Sooner or later you'll realise that women are different creatures to men...different in the obvious ways but also in the fact that some things they will never understand about us and some things we will never understand about them.

In fact I don't think we're ever supposed to understand what women are, or they understand what we are fully. If we ever did, the universe would surely end.

Hence, wheras you don't understand why your lady needs to store 101 sets of shoes and bags in her wardrobe, she probably won't be able to understand why you spend so much time and money on playing computer games in the hopes of mastering a character (or few) in a fighting game or having "personal" experiences whilst playing a single player game. (personal in the sense that the game compels you to keep playing it or it changes your perspective on things for example)

Remember, neither of you is supposed to understand why you do what you do, just accept it. That is, if it's worth accepting in the long run and you're in a secure relationship. If she's just going to rinse your pockets dry they disapear in a weeks time it's probably not that good to accept it lmao.

omg, been platying VF4 recently, started a new Akira file and got up to 2nd Dan...it's such a good game. Graphics look a little ropey but by god I miss playing it...besides which, imho after SF2 it has THE BEST CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN MUSIC EVER! It's fucking awesome. I've even got it in my head now. Deeer du du duuuur du du du duur du du duuuur duuuuuur. Deeer du du di duuuur du du du duur du du duuuuuuur! (hardcore minor scales being rinsed out on the guitar into weird, eastern, metallic sounding interlude back into main riff)

Been learning to parry a lot better too...setting up training to parry fireballs, EX fireballs and superfireballs for now. I can parry Akuma's 3 hitters no probs no but stuff up on Ryu's super after the 3 rd hit for some reason.

Also have loads of Yun combos down now, he's a combo monster.
