Goh's df+p also crouch staggers. It's one of his essential moves, imho. Other Goh essentials, imho would be:

f,f+p, hit throw (this is THE move, imho)
k (this knocks down like df+k on a stagger hit btw)
    D,f+p+k
    b,df+p
    b,f+k
    p+k sabaki
    b,f+p
    f+k
    all of his throws

quite a few Akiraesque moves, as you can see, but tweaked to Goh's style. i recall when Evo first came out, people were saying how Goh is a hybrid of Wolf and Akira.

the above is pretty much all i use/need when i play Goh. i suck too much to use his other fancier moves effectively.

Goh's standing [K] staggers on counterhits

Goh's [K] will only stagger on MC if it interrupts a low P or a low K. Otherwise it pushes back on MC.

Ah, you were talking about Goh! When I mentioned the [6][K]+[G] I was talking about Wolf.

Thanks for the tips, though. I'll copy this down and when I get into playing Goh seriously I'll take note of these. For now, though, I'm going to concentrate on Wolf until I feel confident with everything.

The arcade stick experience actually has been quite pleasant. Though not a Hori stick (which is what I really want - can't afford one yet, but I plan to get one in the near future), I got a pretty good quality stick and it's made playing MUCH easier than on the pad, even without using the shortcuts.

Yes, ghetto-SHUN, I took your advice and went and got myself an arcade stick.

Day 1) Oh, wow! This is great! I can even do Evading Throw Escapes! Woooo!!

Day 2) Dammit! Why do I suck so badly!? I can't even EVADE.

So... it's been a mixed bag as of this afternoon. :p I'm having a really bad off-day! And I'm only at the fifth arcade in Quest. Oh, well... Back to practice.

Okay, Goh notwithstanding, I'm considering Jeffry, though I haven't played him in Evolution yet. I played Jeffry quite a lot in the other Virtua Fighter games. How does Jeff match up in this game? I may make him my second (work on him on the side along with my main man Wolf). I may replace Goh on my list with Jeff or Vanny, but I'm not sure which one I should go with.

I'm also considering Shun, as I've always been a fan of deceptive characters. Plus, the thought of getting my character plastered while playing appeals to me on some odd level. :p

Sorry for the late reply, actually I was talking about wolf's [6][K]+[G], you may notice that goh doesn't have one. The only staggers which guarantee a hit that I can think of at the moment are [P]+[K](charged and blocked), RAW (hit) [P] (counter) and [6][P]+[G], [6][P]+[G] (directions switched). obiously the knee crumples etc.

Yes, I knew that you were talking about Wolf, but somewhere along the way the others got into a Goh discussion. =) It's all good.

I had all those down, so I guess that's all there is to it. I was wondering about something else, though. What could I use that would be guaranteed after a push from a switch? Would it be worth it to do that, or should I keep doing the Double German/One and Only?

Also, is there any use for the 'Swing Through' other than a ring-out opportunity if your back is to the edge?

Ok, the standard combo after a switch/push is [4][6][P]+[K], [2][P], [4][K]+[G], [K]. This should be in the tutorials.

With the 'swing through', do you mean the giant swing ie[4][1][2][3][6][P]+[G]? if so, it is useful because it does a lot of damage and if it hits a wall you can sometimes get in a light down attack or [4][6][K]+[G].

No, I meant the 'Swing Through', as in the grapple where Wolf yanks their arm and pulls the opponent behind him. I'm well aware of the merits of the Giant Swing. =D

I guess I'm not doing the [4][6][P]+[K] fast enough or something, as they always seem to block. Thanks.

Well.. the HCB[P]+[G] is pretty good dmg, and if you use the HCB[P]+[G],[P]+[G] you can go for either a ground throw or jump on him ([8][P]).

Oh, I see. no there really isn't much else to use it for. you can often catch someone turning around with [6][6][P]+[G] but that's about it.

Yeah, the HCB [P]+[G] throw is something I use a lot while guarding. I think that it just feels more natural than doing the Giant Swing for some reason, and there's no 'lunging' animation, so it comes out really fast.

Yeah, Robio_kun, that's the only thing I've ever been able to successfully land, and that's only if they don't duck. LOL

that's because you aren't doing the perfect giant swing, which is 8 frames like most throws.. the plain vanilla gs is 11 frames. learn to do the fast gs- not only is it faster, but it does more dm, and you are actually at an adv on an escape. if you can't do the fast gs consistently (that's me!), do the KS, but keep practicing the fast gs...

personally, i usually do the 2nd p+g after the hcb throw. you lose the guaranteed damage, but the 2nd p+g makes it
    - non recoverable
    - potential for more damage.

but not doing the 2nd p+g allows for
    - ringouts
    - slam against a wall

Yeah, I haven't been doing the PGS consistently. It's difficult to pull out every time. I also find that my opponents are always looking for that giant swing (I wonder why? My ringname is SwingKing... you think that might have something to do with it? =P)

And yes, I've recently discovered the fun of being able to play wake-up games and use ground throws after the 'clothesline' portion of that throw. It's nice to have options.
