Hi there! This is my first post - excited to be here.

I'm a Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter x Tekken player. The last time I really played a 3D fighter was Tekken 2. I've always been fascinated by the graphics in Virtua Fighter.

I saw that Virtua Fighter 5 Online is $5 at some used shops and I am thinking about picking it up. I love the graphics for VF2 and now see that there is an Xbox Live version for that as well. I really like Shun Di and Kage - they both look awesome.

Question: Should I get VF5 Online ($5) or VF5FS? I've never played VF before and I of course want the game that has the best tutorial/training. Is there a huge difference? If not, it seems like it'd be economical to try out VF5 Online, but if you guys think that's a bad place for a newbie to start, I'd love to know! Thanks!

Go with Final Showdown, since that's where everyone is at now. VF5 is cool, but at this point getting it would be for collection purposes.

Is the VF5 tutorial vastly different than FS? Was thinking about getting 5 and waiting for FS to go on another sale on XBLA...

The mechanics are a little different in both games. OM, throw escapes, weight classes, and side turned situations are different among a few other things.

I would get VF5FS because its only 15 dollars and you get two new characters, better lighting and texures, more people online to play against , AND a much improved training mode with a record feature.

    O yeah, welcome to VFDC.:)

I don't think VF5 online (Vanilla) has a tutorial worthy of the name. If you want an older game that will teach you how to play VF then your best bet is to get VF4:EVO on the PS2. I've heard bad things about the PSN version so probably best to just pick up an older PS2 copy.

If you want a game that you can play with other people, then the up to date game is VF5:FS. There are probably more people playing VF2 than vanilla.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! You wouldn't think an internet message board would be a huge factor in enjoying a game, but considering I don't know anyone who plays VF, learning from everyone here is really making me excited about it!

Welllllll, looks like I'm going to get VF5FS shortly! Looks like VF4:EVO is also cheap so I could pick that up for both tutorial modes.

Hi guys, im new here too! Im surprised with how much technical this game is, and, at the same time, light and beautiful. Each new stuff i learn is a pleasure.

My friend Hotrod666 introduced me to the game and is now helping me up with some tips

If you're new too, add me on PSN (RafaelLew) so we can grow and get better together! Believe me, you'll see some crazy stuff online. People play this shit for real

What's up all. Newbie on the forums. Been playing VF casually since the first one. Trying to get good now. The DOA crossover helped get me back into VF5:FS. Time to step my game up and actually be good at this game!

New to the Virtua Fighter series, albeit I'm pretty solid at Doa, Tekken, SC. Like all 3d fighters haha. I've picked up Vf is definitely the most technical, and I enjoy it especially since there is no fancy gimmicks. Practicing with Taka-Arashi and just beat a Hunter rank online. I don't know if thats high or not. I'm not solid enough to defend against that MOTHERFREAKING EILEEN YET, but I'm getting there. Can't wait to join the community.

    Welcome to the forum!

Hunter rank isn't high... it's the rank after 10th dan. You will reach that grade fairly quickly depending on how many wins you get. Once you get there, that is the lowest grade you can hold. So there are guys online who have thousands of games under their belt but are still Hunter grade. Once you get familiar with VF, you'll see that it's because they are missing quite a few fundamentals of the game. But then rank doesn't always mean better player. :)

    Enjoy your stay.

Thanks man, and yeah I'm in the games for the fun but nothing like picking up a game and thinking you just got a high ranker salty. Haha, 22 games and 67 battle points doesn't seem to good but I'm picking on on the VF groove. It's "slower" than other fighters, but in a good sense. I enjoy the rather small community the game has. And more people are respectful online, even when i panic and pppppppp with Taka. I can dig this game.

Sup people? I've played VF since its release on Sega Saturn (saying that makes me feel old).Continued playing VF series on and off throughout the years when I saw it at an arcade. Friends of mine told me about VF5FS, and recommended this website as the place to begin my training. Without further delay, hello world!

Hey what's up guys? Some of you may know me from the DOA or MK community. I'm JDE from Chattanooga (closet city), Tennessee. I also travel to play fighting games I enjoy. I'm not new to VF but I'm new in this community. Been playing VF since VF2. I would normally play either Pai or Kage. I was talked into joining the community by Blackula & Silent Legend, 2 good people I look up to. Look forward to contributing when I can.
