Yeah, I know there's no real "ready" for a fighter. Just, at the time I was inexperienced, and felt maybe it'd be best if I worked my way up.

And considering I ended up being a very competent Tekken player, I feel I've grown to a point that I want to play VF5 full time, like I originally wanted to.

I think when my copy comes in the mail I'll focus on Lion to start. I'll just need to purchase some wine to go with all the cheese he gives out :p

Hey, I'm Tolarus, and I've been following VFDC for some time, and I thought I'd finally get around to making an account.

I've have a pretty diverse background in fighting games, which started with T2, T3, 3rd Strike, and KOF98. I didn't get into VF until VF 4, which I found to be difficult to get into at first, but really enjoyable after learning the system (main was Vanessa, sub was Jackie). I picked up VF5 a little bit after it came out, but I took a break from VF to play GG, MB, KOFXI, some SF4, and T6 (I go back and play T5DR from time to time, since 6 is hit or miss with me) since then.

I want to go from where I left off and get back into VF. After I get caught up on Vanessa, I want to start learning Akira and possibly Goh.

    Hey, I'm Nono.

Ive been stalking you all for about a year so I thought I'd join.

I mainly play as Goh, but I think I maxed out his items on my PS3, so for some reason Ive been using Lion recently.

What can I say, I guess I'm twice the man I used to be...

I never tire of hearing VF quotes no matter how cheesey they are. If you ask me, when it gets to the stage that you love the quotes I think it`s safe to say you`re really a fan [IMG] Anyways welcome and enjoy the stay folks!

Hi there. I've been playing fighting games for over ten years now. My first proper fighter was Ultimate MK3 and stuck with the MK series until MK Deception, then I found SF 3rd Strike and basically ignored MK putting all my focus on the SF games. I'm relatively new to VF. My first proper VF was 3TB on the Dreamcast. At first, I mained Shun then as I loved his mixup game. I never got into VF4 (I'm an Xbox man so VF4 was PS2 only) but got VF5 a couple years ago and loved it at first, got really frustrated (Reason: Surprise surprise, I mained Akira :p) but I recently got back into it again as I got a fightstick a little while ago. I have to say, I'm really loving it but its easily the hardest fighter I've played. I feel quite a bit behind all the pros but each day that goes by in the Dojo, I try to learn something new (I'm quite pleased to be able to do the true dragon lance somewhat consistently :D).

Would love to have a few online games with some of you sometime. You can find me on XBL: LeprekaunTM

Hey, yo, what's up? I'm Heaton. Started playing fighting games since I was 4. I've had tons of fun with them over the years. I stopped being a scrub a few years ago, around the time Soulcalibur IV came out, and started to get into fighting games on a deeper level (frames, advantage-disadvantage, juggles, combos, etc). I've been enjoying them a lot more ever since.

My favorite fighters are probably Soulcalibur and Tekken. I main Siegfried/Raphael, and Dragunov, respectively. I also have a bit of a weakness for the DBZ fighters (non-Tenkaichi style), though I haven't played one since Raging Blast. I'm not a huge fan of 2D fighters. The only one I ever enjoyed a lot was JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for the Playstation, and Street Fighter isn't as fun to me as that was.

I first played Virtua Fighter 5 when it came out, as a rental. I enjoyed it a lot...and then promptly forgot about it until it popped up on the Marketplace. I figured, "Why not?" and bought it. It's...a lot different than what I'm used to, for sure. I'm trying to get used to everything in Quest mode. I picked up Goh, and apparently he's one of the more difficult characters to learn. I'm not seeing it yet, but I barely understand this game right now, so maybe I've already hit that brick wall and haven't realized it.

    So, that's me.

Hi, I'm zilti [IMG] I'm a gamer since a very long time and play all kinds of games. I started with strategy stuff, and then 3 years ago I discovered console gaming. Right now I have every SEGA console and an XBox 360. I haven't been into fighting games since I always lose when playing them, but now I decided to give Virtua Fighter another chance and invest some time into it (I have VF 1,2,3tb and 5).

Ive seen alot of new vf players come and go.. after being turned off by the difficulty of this game.. and the amount of info they see on the website, me included at first. Ive tried with different vf players to on live party to get newbies into VF.. but, alot of them u will never see them again, after realizing how intense this game can be. So i figured lets dumb it down on the way i explain VF. And i had ok success with this method. Im not saying anyone is dumb, im jus saying its the easiest way i can explain to new players ( i btw consider myself still somewhat new, but i have good worth ethics in VF, so im decent at best.. so im not a vet or a pro here ), which in turn have made the new players seem more interested in willing to learn.. cus the game is not that hard. I dont like to give them VF lingo, cus in my experience, it turns alot of casuals off.

Neways, the way i been trying to get new guys into VF over mic ( which i dont as much anymore, but if i do... )

    =====
    1> hitchecking/ knowing disadvantage/advantage

You should know when to block and attack.
In vf you take turns usually not always the case. If your move gets blocked, then you have disadvantage, so try using a defensive block (hold GUARD) or a sidestep or whatver, or ull most likely get hit hard by attacking too much, Vf is not a button masher. If your move hits (not always the case ) then keep going. its kinda like my turn and then ur turn.. not attacking all the time, my turn my turn.. or you will get hit hard when ur at disadv

2> FUZZY GUARD, evade throw escape guard "ETEG"

-usually with dinky moves like elbows on block you can fuzzy guard. just hold guard, and tap down. You duck the throw and get back up in time to block their mid.

-moves that seem stronger, u may wanna do something called an "evade throw escape Guard". You do that by sidestepping after ur move gets blocked and then entering the direction of the throw you want to ESCAPE ( try just doing foward and back for now.. then maybe do different directions when u get better= each character has alot of good throws, u have to guess which direction they will try to throw u. And dont let go of guard) so the motion for an eteg would be, SIDESTEP by tapping up or down, right after press FOWARD P+G and then back P+G, very quickly and dont let go of the guard button. The whole point of the evade throw escape Guard is, when ur move gets blocked, u want to "DEFEND". so by sidestepping u have sidestepped their move, and also u are escaping their attempts to throw you, incase they go for a throw. So you shutdown both options of someone trying to attack you and have a chance to escape their throw in case they throw you.

This so far has been the most effective way of me teaching someone.... talking numbers with ppl scare ppl of VF. i just refer to safer moves as dinky moves... and moves that u can eteg as, stronger looking moves... you can use ur own judgement and with experience you prob will get the hang of it. I try to spark some interest with non vf lingo first, and down the road, i believe they will probably look into learning the game further

and im sure they will figure out how to abare, and how to ete on their own...etc. To me the most important aspects of VF were, fuzzy, ETEG, disadv, adv. once i learnt that, i was on my way to learning the more advance stuff... but i believe the backbone of sparking interest for new players is fuzzy, ETEG, disadv, adv. its quite scary for new players to come onto the website and randomly find, info like ACTIVE FRAMES, recovery time, failed evade, the 100 ways of breaking staggers, OM, etc...etc...

Once u learn those things the game is much more fun, i tell new players, once u hit a certain learning curve ull never look back. It sucks too, cuz if ur new, most of the ppl u encounter are fairly good, so dont take it personally if u lose lots, theres barely any casual players on.

  13. Hello, another newb coming in ^^

I decided to get into Virtua Fighter because the game is like no other, love the realism and the characters.
I've always been a street fighter player, and a lover of 2d fighters since Ssf2t, though always a casual one, and as soon as the later games hit i just moved on and never looked back.

I've been playing fighters for a long time but i've never really gotten into the 3d fighters until now, i've played tekken a handful of times and i've tried playing/getting into VF4 in the past but i have had no one to play with and no arcades are nearby, more of an industrial area around here.

Anyway i'm glad to be able to actually play the game against you folks now, even if it's online, i know there will always be lag but i'm sure we'll have a good time anyway.

No fav character at the moment, i've been playing with Eileen so far, tried a few online games yesterday and won most.

Not new to Virtua Fighter at all but new to VDC. The anticipation for VF5 FS somewhat led me to this site as I had no idea this place existed! Currently playing VF5 that I got last week (been playing VF 4 Evo for the longest due to no PS3). Favorite characters seemed to have carried over from Evo:

    1. Sarah
    2. Vanessa
    3. Pai (although she plays sort of weird in 5)
    4. Lei-Fei

Tried Eileen on my very first playthrough and couldn't quite get the timing on her moves down yet, but I'm still trying.

I'm just now getting back into fighting games as there has been a recent spike (Marvel vs Capcom 3, TTT 2) in interest in this genre which is bad because it's by far my favorite genre, well that and rpg's...sort of. Well hopefully I can improve my playing skills and learn something from this place!

Do you have an Xbox or plan to get 1 soon. if you can play online we can help you by playing you first hand. Playing only on PS3 could limit how many people you play unless you know of the offline scene in your area.

Hey everyone. I'm new and I feel like I'm way late to the party but. I hope not too late. I'm stoked to see that there is still an active fan base for VF5. I've not really played competitively but I still hope to spar and chat it up with you online...

I've been a closet VF5 fan since it launched in japan on ps3 and am the proud owner of a couple of sega's virtua sticks. I also bought it on the 360 and since it is online I may as well break down and go Gold...about time huh? Where have I been all this time right?-Hopefully but, not likely, honing my skills(you need real human opponents for that right?). Even though I play a ton of video games I always come back to Virtua Fighter-I think it is my favorite game of all time.-Anyone on this site knows why.
