Hey guys, fresh meat here. I played a decent amount of VF4E, and just got into VF5 on PS3. I've only played with live competition in VF4E once, so I've only really played against computers I played as Jacky, Aoi, and Vanessa in that game, and decided to go with Vanessa in VF5.

I play pretty much all fighting games, and I'm part of a good group of fighting game enthusiasts in Kansas City. We game every week, and have monthly tournaments. Myself, I live in Lawrence, Kansas.

Glad to be here, hope to get better at this game and find some live competition besides the one other dude in my group who is into VF.

My nickname is Death-Servant, I'm a VF fan since...many years, now. It's been a long time I wanted to come on VFDC. I discovered VF with VF4Evo (maybe the game that has spent the most time on my PS2...), and I loved it. Of course, I bought (and loved) VF5. I'd love to fight with other players, but I've got VF5 on PS3 only, so I can't play in online. I'm also a Tekken/DOA/Soul Calibur/MK/SF/KOF, etc... player, even if I am stronger at some of these games than at others.... I'd like to pregress in VF and to share my opinions about the series.

Hey all new person here! Dunno which is the game to play or what most play anyways...i [play VF5online right now for 360 but i see not a lot of people are playing or am i just doing something wrong?? i dunno. I'm trying to find a main atm debating between kage, shun , and elieen but who knows.

would play at an arcade but number 1: have no money to spend like that and #2 last decent arcade here peaced out so im left with crappy family places that just have ddr and tekken

Online is usually a ghost town unless you arrange for some matches here with folk or if you can connect to Japanese people.

I don't know if there is a scene in Michigan but I'm sure one of the Americans here can help with that.

Also, please don't play Shun. Dude is a dick.

Welcome to VFDC and nice Ryuk avatar by the way. There are still plenty of reasons to play VF if you like the game. They are still people playing. See who's currently online by reading the current posts in the Good Games Thread.

What I do is go to the Good Games Thread to see who is currently posting/playing. Then when I'm on XBL I just search their GT and ask if they want a game. I often add them to my friends list.

You can search for GT "VFDC Friends" on XBL as well. That list was compiled recently. See who's playing and ask for a game.

new player, transition from sf

i finally caved in and bought a copy of vf5. I remember playing vf 2 for the saturn and loved it.
I got a good basic understanding of the system, and really love it.
What i love about it is that it's a completely different game. You just have way too many options and tools at your disposal for many situations. I find that part really liberating, yet limiting at the same time, since i really don't know how to approach the proper attacks at the proper time.
Any beginner tips? I've been using Lion and Jacky, and am getting used to their move lists.
Any beginner tips on guarding and such?

Beginners tip: Play the game the Seidon way:

If PK connects, Elbow or throw.

if Elbow is guarded, crouch or PK.

If everything fails, just 2P repeatedly.

VF at its core works something like this...

If you attack and land a hit - attack again or throw.

If you attack and get blocked - defend against an attack or throw.

If you block an attack - attack back or throw.

If you get hit - defend against another attack or throw.


It was described to me as taking turns and that's what really made sense (it took me a long time to get the above through my head). I was always just doing my own thing rather than paying attention to what was happening in the fight.
