yo psycho feel free to join party chat and i can show u some basic stuff about VF. its nice to have canadian players on here. Basically theres alot to vf but this is what i tell new players since the wiki has too much info to read. just print out a frame data on vfdc website.
Basics; the rest will come with exp ( im still kinda new to compared to these other ppl, but if ur willing to learn the game i guarantee u will never wanna play another fighting game)

-look on ur grid on ur frame data chart. when it says guard that mean how bad the move will put u at disadvantage. anywhere from negative -1 to -5 u can fuzzy guard meaning, if u press down for a slight second while holding guard u will not be thrown or hit by a mid. DUcks under throws and standing back in time to block a mid. Or u can also evade if u think the recovery of ur opponents move is gonna be big/ slow and punish a failed recovery move if u think there gonna bust out a strong move. Low punches too are very good at small disadvanatge. negative -6 means u have to crouch fuzzy. done as df df guard very very quickly because crouch fuzzy is faster than just tapping down. Crouch fuzzy serves the same purpose duck under throw and be in time to block a mid. negative -7 to -11 means u cannot duck a throw, so u wanna try to evade, and while ur evading u wanna input throw escapes. If u are gonna attack out of disadvanatge it should either be a quick poke like a down punch or a standing jab or a 14 frame mid. From neg 1-10,11 u can beat a throw out with P. negative 12 and up u wanan try to throw escape. these are the basics of the game. the reason i believe new ppl should learn this type of stuff is, because other fighters u can mash buttons and do very well, in VF is doesnt work as well. VF is kinda like rock paper scissors. U cant keep attacking or ull get really f'd up. knowing when u shouldnt be attacking is what will make u wanna keep playing vf. if u dont, ull feel like this game is stupid because it will seem like a broken game.

Hello all. I'm Opnox from Germany and new to VF5. I played VF2 when I was a child by a friend and it was amazing, but then I were more into other Fighting Games and more into the 2D ones (KoF, SF, Garou, ...).

I got my VF5 and my Arcade Stick (SF4 TE) yesterday and can't wait to start playing [IMG]
I play on Xbox360 and I'm planning to play online, too.

    Hi all.

Australian newcomer to the Virtua Fighter scene. I'm a long time competitive Street Fighter player (been playing it since SF2 on SNES, and recently placed top 5 nationally for SFIV) so I have a pretty extensive background on fighters (well, Street Fighter anyway :p) and I thought I'd try out a new fighter.

I have VF5 for the PS3 (as I understand it's an older version than the 360 and the arcade version?), but that's ok, I'm determined to learn the game.

A few things that I've heard about Virtua Fighter:

    1. Although tiers exist, the game is pretty solidly balanced and you have more than a decent chance to win regardless of who you play.

    2. It's (probably?) the deepest 3D fighting game engine.

    3. The game is huge in Japan, but not as popular in western countries (a real shame too).

Off the bat, just messing around with my bother, a few things I've kinda noticed, the command inputs seem to be much more strict than on SF. I was playing Kage and one move he has is the shoryuken input (f, d, df + P) and it took me 3 or 4 attempts to actually get it out, rather than knocking it out 100% of the time on SF. The counter grab time is very short (I swear I'd press P+G the same time my brother did to me, but I still got grabbed) and grabs don't land on crouching opponents (boooo!)

Also, this game doesn't seem to run off a priority system (liket Street Fighter has). It kind of seems like whoever gets the attack out first is the one that does the damage. Also, I haven't noticed any hits 'trading' with each other. Don't get me wrong, these aren't negatives. I don't want this to have a similar engine as Street Fighter, so the more different is it, the happier I'll be.

Granted, these observations are only from probably 5-7 hours of gameplay, but could anyone clarify these for me? I just want to build an understanding of the fighting system.

Playing around, I found myself liking Vanessa quite a bit. Her two stances can really mix up your opponent as it always keeps them guessing. However, down + P pretty much stuffed every one of my attacks. So every time I went to attack, my brother would just crouch and spam punch and it'd interrupt a ton of attacks......

Anyway, looking forward to getting into the meat of this game. Kinda sick of throwing out hadokens, want to try something a little different and look forward to learning from you all.

Welcome to VF and VFDC! It's always a pleasure seeing new interest in this game! I suggest reading up on the VF System. <-- click that! This will help you understand how VF works (advantage, disadvantage, throws/escapes, movement, etc.) I know it must seem overwhelming at first but once you get past that first hurdle the game will open up and you'll have a lot of fun with the game.

What's going on guys, my name is mic out of Florida. I've been a vf fan since the first one on arcade. I have vf5 on 360 and ps3. The only reason I bought a 360 was to play this game online. It's been about 9 months since I was able to play online because I moved and I don't have internet. VF is THE best fighting series ever. Any body from Florida, let me know.

At last report, blondie & ghostdog live in Jacksonville. I think blondie is playing SFIV & ghostdog has been spotted on XBL playing VF5 recently. I feel like there's some others perhaps more active on the boards but my memory is failing me. Good luck finding competition!

From the US and play many fighting games. I'm only a ps3 user. It's sad that VF5R hasn't been announced yet on consoles. Hopefully it will or maybe another sequel will come eventually.

Hey people! Long time (Since VF in arcade) VF fan/player. Never really got deep into it (as in learning enough to be High-Level play), but have enough experience to not be "lost" in the game. Looking to level up my Shun with players who love this game as I do. Wanting to learn the REAL game of VF outside of just random button presses...

You can hit me up on LIVE @ GT:dikrodnum. Please send a msg first saying that you are from VFDC.
