Hey guys, I'm new here and to Virtua Fighter and I was reading a lot about the different characters but I'm having a difficult time selecting one. Is there any character that has good reversals, or is such a strategy not really valid in VF5? I'd like to be able to read what my opponent is going to do and try to counter it.

    Thanks for any info!

Okay I know this is a few months too late but I recommend Lion, okay he's a fag but has a strong Okizeme game and well due to his low damage walls are the most effective way to cause major damage.
Im personally a Lion player more for the High Risk Reward factors he has in his play style (that and I do Mantis lol)

Aoi is the queen of reversals. Other characters with many reversals (but not such a repertoire as Aoi) are Pai and Akira.

Reading your opponent and countering is what optimally youd do with any character, but the means to do it differ from character to character.

Beginners should use Sarah, she is quite easy to use. I played VF 4 first. I used Sarah, because she's easy to use.

I think Chans and Bryants are easy to use - good start for beginners.

El Blaze, Eileen, Jacky, Lau and Pai are pretty good for beginners in my opinion.

I think you can use any character you want when you start VF. Some characters will take you longer to learn.
I started with Goh and got my ass beaten all over and my bro suggested that I drop him, but I didn't want to learn any other char and one day I learned to make use of his moves.

Thanks for listening to "Jemun's first experiences with Goh". Peace /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Well if the majority of people who play a FG like VF are into the kung fu or flashier martial ares type fighing style, you can narrow down your choices to Shun Di, Lion, Akira, Elieen, Pai, Jacky, Lei-Fei, Brad, or Jean.

Any other fighting aside from Kung Fu or exceptionally flashy martial arts just doesnt seem appealing to me to play as.

I just like to use akira, becaues he has lot of cheap/unbeatable tactic that you can use and still not have to learn all of those jong comdos.

    Eileen, maybe? Or Pai?
My method for choosing my main is seeing videos from Youtube, etc and try to decide what character has more atractive moves for me.
Just try with all character, you will have an idea at the end.

Hi guys, I'm new to VF and need some assistance on which character to play with. At the moment, I am quite liking Brad and Jacky but I only want to use one of them and dunno which one. I play Tekken quite regularly and am quite good at it, I play with Hwoarang, Law and Lee in that but I dont know if I should let that affect my decision here. I normally wouldnt be asking this type of question but as I have the PS3 version, there is no online for me to practice against human opponents. Hope someone can give me some guidance here. Cheers.

Since you play Lee and Hwoarang, I would check out Sarah. She has a lot of fast kick combos and stances so I think she would be a good pick for now so you can get your footing with VF's system with minimal frustration. Since there are no garbage characters in VF, you can be confident that whoever you end up picking will be a viable contender if you put in the work.

I agree with Maxsterling. (*sob...Rip buddy)

There are no "bad" characters in VF, just characters with a different style off attacking. Sarah is a good place to start if you like high offense (...chuckle) characters in Tekken.

Just work on flamingo, since alot of her attack patterns are focused on it (*note* Mastamune isn't speaking from experience. He finds Sarah, and generally stance characters, hard to work with.) Sarah's mainly focused on offense and mix ups, so be sure to learn all the various kick combos she can put together...

and never underestimate the usage of a side step into kick to the face.

Re: Why is picking a character so hard rant

Hi guys, had a massive session at VF yesterday, trying out 4 characters that I thought I can end up using. I used each one for about an hour and here are my thoughts.

Sarah: After some people suggested using Sarah because I am a Hwoarang/Lee player in Tekken, I thought I'd give her a go. To be honest, I didnt really like her. She is not as fluid as I thought (in comparison to Hwoarang) and I just didnt really like the way she goes into her stances. I dont think I'll be picking her.

Eileen: Now Eileen is very interesting. I really enjoyed her due to the fighting style she has. Seems different, effective and fun. She is a character I was considering for a bit but once I started practicing with her and trying out combos, looking at offense/defence strategies, I kind of got put off. She seems to be a keep away character from what I read on these forums, and I'm a rushdown player.

Brad: REALLY like this guy. Powerful moves, quick combos and attitude to boot. I am really considering him but I want to know how difficult he is to learn? I will be putting some time into this game but not the kind of time I had back a few years ago. I can only play for an hour or so a day due to work commitments and dont wanna pick Brad if he is REALLY hard to master (which is what I have read on this forum).

Jacky: Another character I enjoyed a LOT. Firstly, there is the nostalgia value of picking him as I remember always wanting to play with him when the original VF1 came out. Now I have finally decided to buy the game, wouldnt it be criminal not to use him? I really like his fighting style, is powerful enough and fast enough. Has a few stances and some good combos. Again need to know the learning curve for him but he does seem quite easy to play.

So these are my thoughts at the moment. Looks like it will definately be Jacky or Brad. Just need some advise here and that will probably sway it. Cheers guys.
