    Which is worse:
    1. Paying for items that were hidden on the game disc the whole time
    2. Having to download a patch full of items you can't use unless you pay for them

I'd go with #1 myself. I'm paying my 300 points and getting my sweet Sarah items. (Glad I don't play Jeffry or Brad...)

In my opnion, DLC means that there is something new that needs to be downloaded, as in created after the game went gold. To have to pay for stuff that is on the disc is pretty lame. Don't get me wrong, I love this game. I just don't like to buy a game for $60, then have to pay extra to access certain parts of it. That is not a good trend for us gamers to support in my opinion.

I'm almost certain its a way to test the water with a relatively unsuccessful series. If the next few item packs are simply unlocks, I will be pissed too, trust me.

My gripe isn't buying item packs. The price is reasonable and I'd buy it IF they had decent crap for everyone. I only use jacky and he got basically nothing. No point in buying stuff like that.

I agree that jackys items are pretty weak.

    Guys,

I went to the Marketplace looking for these DLCs last night (it was admittedly late and I was just tired of being punished by the usual Eileens and LeiFeis) and I couldn't find any downloadable items. Would anyone tell me exactly where to look for them?
    Thanks in advance.

Can we all just not buy it. and in a month or 2 we'll get this plus whatever else is hidden on the disk for free.

    DLC should be called DC

What difference does it make if 1 or 24 DLCs are unlocks? Unlock is just the chosen method of delivery and you don't HAVE to do it to play the game.

Excellent idea! Everybody, don't buy it so sega sees there is no interest for downloadable content and we dont get anything anymore.

I think this summarizes the issue very well.

Maybe instead of unlocking existing material with a 100kb download key, next time they should deliver newer items via a huge download file and only other players who paid for the upgrade would be able to see them. It's a purely cosmetic thing, so I don't really have a problem with that. As other people have stated, I think the current method is a safe/inexpensive way for AM2 to test the waters.

Gameplay patches however I think should be free for no reason other than keeping the game current and consistent within the community. However, xbox live marketplace space/exposure costs money obviously, so the developer really has no choice but to charge for that extra content. VF5 doesn't really have that much buzz in the console world (and especially the xbox world) that allows AM2 the luxury of giving stuff away for free. This isn't Halo 3, so they won't be making boatloads of money on this title. What happens when "Player 1" who's still using version C, faces off online against "Player 2" who's rocking the hot new version D patch? Which system rules will apply to the match? Because of this potential inconsistency issue I don't forsee a version D patch for the console versions, but I could be wrong.

I'd like to see a ps3/360 port of VF5Evo just like everyone else, but it's hard to tell if that will be a downloadable expansion pack on the 360 or a full retail disk if AM2 decides to do it. Basically, this whole downloadable content thing for consoles is uncharted territory that developers are still figuring out. I'm not exactly sure where things are going right now.

Re: DLC should be called DC

The difference is that they put the items onto the disc you are playing. If xbox live wasn't there then you'd be playing with all of the items right now. From my point of view I've paid for a disc and I understood that I'd be entitled to play with everything on that disc. If that's not the way it's going to be then there should be a label on the front saying 'to use all the content on this disc you will be required to pay xx amount of money over the next few months'. To which I would have said 'wtf?!'. Now if they'd gone out of their way to create more stuff after the game shipped and they need to cover the cost of doing so then fair enough.

It's not actually 'additional' content is it?

Having said all of that, I don't really care at the moment. I'm still super happy that we got ver.C and that it's online. But I can completely understand why some people (will) feel cheated.
EDIT: this is assuming all the new content will be unlocks, which is what we were talking about.

are sega ripping us off by charging for downloads already on the retail disc? oh, yes!

    but do you really care?

personally i can afford the 300 point downloads so have no real issues with it. phantasy star universe bled over a years subscription charges out of people by drip releasing content already on the disc. people complained yet they still came back for more.

bottom line....if you don't like it don't buy it.

Re: Not happy with the DLC

Let us all just throw out money at game companies that care for nothing but profit. Let's not voice disapproval and let the game companies rip gamers off more and more.

VF6 - pay extra $10 to unlock Option

    VF7 - pay extra $5 for manual

VF8 - Pay extra $5 for cd case.

VF9 - Pay for each character you want to use.

not including the item pack, do you feel ripped off for how much you paid for vf5?

I would like to see a better solution than this one. Why is everyone that keeps complaining ignoring the problem that could come from actual DLCs when you want to play someone who doesn't have it.

Re: Not happy with the DLC

the better solution is to let us use all the stuff on the disc, it's quite simple.

Other than that you could have a forced update when new DLC is availible meaning you DL the info to your HD but you don't have access to use it untill you pay for it... Or the items simply don't appear on your opponenets screen... Or when you play someone without it, the items are replaced with different one's from the same catagory.

There's 3 over and above the one that should happen anyway. I'd go with the forced update myself.

Re: Not happy with the DLC

EXACTLY. The contents are already on the disc so anybody that unlocked those items can play online against someone that doesn't even know those DLCs exist. Simple and effective. You don't want them, that's fine. They're on your disc so the people that bought them can use them while playing against you.

I am ok with this since it's only three dollars people. I am also glad I don't use Brad or Jacky. I am quite happy with the items for Wolf, Pai, and Aoi. If they keep doing this over and over again on the disc or to unlock actual options, then would be the time to question it. For now, this is not as bad as let's say when my friend realized to play Crackdown fully, you need a couple thousand points to unlock different game types.
