2 more AM2 clips at VFzone:

    http://vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/final_ketu1.wmv Aoi vs Akira

    http://vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/final_ketu2.wmv Aoi vs Akira
The first clip is quite refreshing. The Akira player doesn't stick to playing Ver.C style, and actually uses
[1][P]+[K]+[G] [P] and the new knee very nicely. He's also quite stylish and uses lots of G-cancels in both clips. These are very educational movies for Akira players like myself and others.

They also have some new ShinZ clips available as well. Finally some Evo footage of his Akira!! Just go to http://www.tbzone.co.kr/vf4 and click on the link at the bottom labeled "Battle". A second window should pop with a match available. To access another match, just press the "next" button. Since I can't get the direct links for these particular movies to work correctly, this will have to do for now.

    Final Tournament

If you downloaded the latest am sega movies reported by DRE, mirrored at VFZone:

    http://www.vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/final.zip (59mb)
    http://vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/final_ketu1.wmv (7.9mb)
    http://vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/final_ketu2.wmv (8.3mb)

you might be left wondering what it was all about. Well, Sega held a national tournament which concluded on Sunday (3rd Nov). Dubbed the Final Tournament you can see how it went down on am.sega's site here:

    http://am.sega.jp/utop/news/event/evoote_final_tournament.html

The movies contained in final.zip are from the semi-finals, and the two final_ketu1,2 movies are the final match, which is won by Osu Akira. You can see his pic on am.sega's page above holding his trophy (looks like a golden lion).

Some interesting things you can see from the tournament chart:

    - Chibita is knocked out in the 1st round by a Vanessa player
    - Osu Akira knocks out Napolean Jacky in the 1st round
    - Segaru is knocked out in the 2nd round by an Aoi player
    - Jin (Kage) is knocked out in the 2nd round by Hakushon Lau
    - Hakushon is knocked out in the final of his group by Pe (Lion)

And some tidbits you won't get from the chart:

    - Kyasao didn't qualify for the tourney
    - Mukkii Akira didn't qualify either, unfortunately. He actually tried going to different game centers to qualify and kept losing at around the semi-final stage for qualification. Such bad luck!

All in all, looked like a tough tournament eh? Lots of "big names" went down early. I hope the whole tournament footage becomes available soon.

Anyway, just thought I'd put the latest am.sega movies into context for you, as I'm sure a lot of you are just watching these movies without any idea on the background behind the matches.

    Re: Final Tournament

Whoa, Danny, I guess this settles the debate about who is the best Akira!

Tense match, you could clearly tell the players were nervous, but in the end, it was clear that Osu Akira was the tougher tournament player.

Was every character represented in those finals except Goh?

    Akira: 3
    Pai: 5
    Lau: 5
    Wolf: 1
    Jeffry: 1
    Kage: 3
    Sarah: 1
    Jacky: 2
    Shun: 0
    Lion: 5
    Aoi: 3
    Vanessa: 2
    Goh: 0
    Brad: 1

No Shuns and Gohs! Well, at least you can't accuse those two of being underpowered, though they are probably more difficult to win with consistently in a tournament setting.

(Arashi, a Goh player, came second in the Green Book Beat Tribe tournament.)

To follow my previous theory of tiering (i.e. the powerful characters would naturally emerge from tournaments):

    1: Lau, Lion, Pai
    2: Aoi, Akira, Kage
    3: Jacky, Vanessa
    4: Brad, Jeffry, Sarah, Wolf
    5: Goh, Shun

Interesting eh? (Don't worry, even I don't believe in this tiering stuff).

    P.S. Oops, added Wolf.

Osu Akira is the deadlier Akira!

I take it you're comparing Osu and Mukkii? That'd be an epic battle to watch!

I personally prefer watching Mukkii, and he seems more well rounded. But I guess I haven't really seen much of Osu in Evo outside this recent tourney footage.

    Re: Final Tournament

Myke, do you have the Green Book? Osu plays Mukki and destroys him!

But, I thought Osu had the edge over Mukki in that instance as Osu had played mind games with Mukki prior to their match (i.e. trash talking, taunting, etc.) and that's why Mukki crumbled.

I suppose that mentality reflected itself in this tournament?

Actually, Osu didn't do as well as Mukki did overall in the matches contained in the Green Book DVD, and Mukki actually came fourth in that tournament.

And what about the Kage Player who one the Another Beat Tribe comp?

He got roasted by Chibita afterwards on the Best Bout 30, one thing I remember is [2]+[P]+[K] missing after MC [2_][3]+[P] for Kage, something I have NEVER seen in any other EVO match.

    Re: Final Tournament

    Continuing my post...

Just watched the semi-final matches. I don't know what happened to that Aoi against Osu, she was quite brilliant against PE, and it was PE that choked a little in their third match (I always thought PE was anti-choke...that guy has iron guts). The first match between the two was absolutely brilliant.

The Kage was very interesting...90% of his offense came from jab to throws and upper interrupts. He was clearly nervous as hell against Osu, but Osu was making a lot of little execution mistakes as well.

Mo, the Retired Kage versus Chibta match actually took place before the tournament...I think that puts the Kage in a slightly better light.

Oh yeah, Retired Kage is AWESOME. He's the same Kage in Kyasao's three Kage "chicken" team on Daioh right? Probably the most fearsome Kage out there right now, even though he didn't make this tournament.

I'm very impressed that Jin made it though. For those that read my Japan trip impressions, you'd remember how I played this guy many times and studied his Kage. He beat a lot of scrubs, but I always wondered how he would perform against really good opponents. Now I know.

<font color="ff3366">I take it you're comparing Osu and Mukkii? That'd be an epic battle to watch!</font color>

That match has taken place, but it's ancient stuff by now. There are a few version C Daioh clips floating around where Mukki and Ohsu (or is it Osu?) square off. In some cases Mukki would run through most of the team, only to be stopped by Ohsu, if memory serves me correctly. BTW, I love watching both Akiras. I think Mukki has the better defense, while Ohsu is a little more flashy, and maybe a little better with command input. Enough rambling. /versus/images/icons/blush.gif

The Aoi player has some interesting flow charts. For instance, the player sweeps the opponent (normal hit), and then follows with [2_][3]+[P]->[4]+[P]+[G]. He also delays [6]+[P]+[K], [P], mixing up the g-cancels and keeping the opponent off balance (at least in the matches against Rho Epsilon's Lion). Overall, these were great clips, and worth the time spent waiting for the download.

    Oh yeah...a coupla updates:

Kotoni Renngou has updated with two new clips. One features an Akira/Sarah matchup, and the other is Akira vs. Jeffry, complete with scuba gear.

After a long time, http://nagoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/VFdouga.htm has updated with about 11 new clips. I haven't seen any of them yet because I can't download any of them. I think it's because the titles of the clips are in Japanese, and my DL accelerator doesn't recognize the characters. *groan*

I'm having the same problem too ghost. The filenames are definitely a problem. When I view the source code for the top link's page and search for the filename, it looks something like "IIIIIIII[IO1-1.WMV". Hopefully someone (Creed) will figure out some other insane way to DL it. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

    Anyways......there's always VFzone:

    Re: Final Tournament

The bad news is that the quirky characters in the filenames fool download assistants into thinking you want to navigate somewhere else on the site and give you a 404. The good news is that the site's a little less flaky than it used to be, so if you click the button and download as intended, it seems to be ok. Of course that's on my crappy 15kbps connection, maybe downloading it too quickly (as on am2's site) will cause it to wreck.
In any case I'll be mirroring the movies. Be aware that when you download them the usual way, IE gracelessly gives them no extensions and random filenames like E9O5RA. Rename it to .wmv and you'll be ok.
