Kittens are cute! Who doesn't love kittens? I know i do: in the Tekken 5 intro Asuka saves a kitten and i bought it. If VF5R had more kittens i would definetly buy it. A Tekken vs VF game should definetly have kittens, they are so kawaii !!

Can you imagine Pai vs JinPachi /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
I admit Dural would bring a little more respect to the Tekken boss
scene.

But you're right, If either company makes the game it would be just a matter of adding new characters using their own fighting system.

But one of the biggest obstacles to making a VF vs Tekken is the
intellectual property stuff. Sega having to pay for a license to
use Tekken Intellectual property or Namco having to pay sega to
use VF intellectual property.

Using Ling Xiaoyu's likeness, or Akira's likeness would be expensive. Having the likeness of VF characters in Tekken would
probably expand Tekken sales, just the mere thought of being able
use the Kangeroo to vanquish Akira would get the Tekken fans going.

On the other hand, having the likeness of Tekken characters in VF
probably wouldn't increase VF fanbase that much. Somehow it doesn't seem like there's much honor in pulling of ETEG and then a crumple against Panda /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Tekken + VF = Kungfu Panda /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Although I would definitely buy it, the more I try to picture the game, it definitely would be an abomination /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Maybe we could just trade bosses for a version. Get a little Shun Di vs Jinpachi going on /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

And maybe Dural would be a little more humble if she was subjected to a few Tekken 10 hit combos. If Dural was to get a
little taste of Eddie Gordo's 10 hit combos that would put things
in perspective really fast /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

And the Tekken 5 DR lagfest would allow Dural to see Eddie's 10 hit combo coming in slow motion /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

On the other hand the rainbow of colors reflecting off of shiny
Dural from the contact fireballs during the lagfest would probably be worth the price of the game.

Yea, On balance, Tekken vs VF would definitely be an Abomination /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

This collaboration may be VF's best hope of staying alive. The way it's going now, VF is dying a slow painful death.

People might be putting too much hope into what this kind of game would bring

First off, people need to stop assuming that everyone that doesn't play VF doesn't do it because they haven't "seen the light yet", you know, there are actually people out there who simply doesn't like VF.

Second, I didn't see Capcom players go running after SNK games after the Capcom vs SNK series and I wouldn't expect a massive influx of Tekken players in VF either.

Yeah I agree that's what I'm saying.

I don't know about over where you are, but in the U.S. they atleast tried the games out of curiosity. I guess what happened was that they just didnt like, or prefer what they saw or got out of it. Cause no one really 'plays' SNK over here still. It atleast helped with exposure I think, after that it's up to them. VF can get you hooked.

You have a point: If such a game was to exist components from each series would be lost to accommodate the other. It could turn out that a player who liked "TK vs VF" wouldn't like either original series on its own.

And for VF, which has a much weaker following than Tekken, I don't think such a colaboration would do it much good, in fact I see the opposite. As a fan of the series I want Virtua Fighter to be appreciated more for its unique merits, not as a tie-in for what would be a brand new series in its own right.

I agree with you. On the other hand, if it had a high fun factor, then it could be a welcome distraction from vf5. Kinda like a vf5 light, for when i just wanted to F around. That is kinda where street fighter is for me. So i wouldn't be upset at all if it's never made, but if it is, hopefully it is fun at least.

Sega and Namco should just have a groove system, in where the "vf groove" would be based on 3 of the 4 buttons on the board, and the "tk groove" would use all 4 buttons. Both games uses walls, so that wouldn't change much. That would still be crazy to have a Brad vs Bruce match. It would still be way better than SvC:Chaos...

One thing is for sure, this game would rack in more sells then VF5 and in the end that's what matters for the company. Don't see why people would be against something like this I would like to see it happen.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. But we're talking about a 3D fighter; most characters have around a hundred moves on average, chopping them up between both input types would be a balancing nightmare.

I think a universal input system would need to be implemented with each character's moves filtered through it. For example:

Guard, Punch, Kick and Evade:
<ul>[*]Four buttons to deal with like Tekken.[*]Also the old-school VF3 config.[*]Seemingly simple commands for the casual gamer.[*]Guard/buffer system for the hardcore.[*]All throws would be escapable via the Evade button and a direction.[*]Only a selection of characters from each series would fill the roster with the rest being original (8/8/4 respectively).
And that's just off the top of my head; both brands need to loose something to further the blending of the finished product. Catering to either one would just create camps of players who would be harder and harder to cater to as the series continues.

For that very same reason: People wouldn't be playing VF. Tekken could take the strain but VF would have another competitor. Sure, from a business perspective, Sega and Namco would make money (assuming the series took off), they'd be pleased and would invest in the product for as long as it could turn a profit.

However those same funds that Sega could be using to improve VF and raise its profile would be going elsewhere. What happened to Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury when KOF gained momentum? AoF was put out to pasture while FF received a few more titles, ending with "Mark of the Wolves" and the lead characters have since been adopted full-time by KOF ever since.

2D fighters are much cheaper to make than 3D ones, how long do you think VF would last in the shadow of its younger, potentially more popular sibling?

When I talk to random fighting game players, a lot of them have praise for Fighters Megamix. I've even seen it played at Evo and NEC.

I'm sure the general fighting game community would love to see a crossup game between the two companies.

I think this would be pretty good. I just hope it's not the Tekken hardware but still the VF hardware...

Aoi vs. Azuka... I wonder who would win since they're both bone breaking women. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
