Speak English where? You're kidding yourself if you think "anyone" in Japan speaks English. They are forced to learn English from Junior High School, but nobody there speaks it (in general). Maybe they can read a few words. That is about it. You might be thinking of Europe, where people are actually bi/tri-lingual.

Love you for the rest of the write-up Myke... going to sneak in time to read Pt.2 at work.

    Exactly. Dub-chan.

Basically, most of Japanese people can't speak and listen English. They know some grammers and words, but can't speak.

    I guarantee about this.

Wow, just finished reading Part 2 and Danny's brief write-up. So epic, yet also scary thinking of how easily you guys were humbled in those arcades. It does make me happy though knowing that all of the gloom and doom surrounding VF5 and "nobody playing it anymore" is in fact false. Joseph has been one of my favorite Akira players for a long time (ever since I saw him vs. Homestay), so it's nice to see that he is still around dominating along with Homestay, who someone had told me had quit the game. =/

Geez, I wish I could send you two back to Japan every month just so I could have new stories to read and hear about the nightmarish unknowns that sit kicking butt and taking names in the arcades. It is very inspiring. Thanks for the time you guys took out to give us feedback, and I'll be sure the check out the videos, pictures and attouteki tournament stuff later (still at work, and not gonna try to pull that one off).

P.S. Pleasure to finally see Ogi and hear that he was that hospitable. Ogi, I feel indebted to you for the hundreds of hours I've spent over the past year and a half diligently watching the videos that you would post of the top players. I used to check every day to see if you had anything new (before your posting became more scarce), and I owe you thanks for being dedicated to posting them for people like me.

P.P.S. Tatsuki, never call me Dub-chan again. >_<

Good stuff! I wish I was still living in Tokyo so that I could've met up with you guys, even though I don't get to play VF as much as I want to. Next time, make sure to come down to Osaka!

    YEAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Homestay is back and made it to the best 4!!!

Unluckily the videos at the AM2 page don't seem to work for download, just streaming through explorer /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Myke, I have some questions for you:

1 - I've seen that the winning percentage and number of losses and wins seem to have disappeared. Is there an option to hide them or something?

2 - You said some people cheat their ranks. How is that possible?

3 - As of late I learnt of all the intricacies of VFNet and so on. Is there anything people outside Japan can do with it? Do they have some sort of rankings for the actual players?

4 - When are you going to create the wiki page on hich I can put my history of Japanese tournaments? ^_^[/size]

Yeah, the option to hide your win ratio has been there since VF4FT I believe. New in VF5 is the option to display the results of your last 10 matches as a series of X's (loss) and O's (win).

Not that hard if you think about it. Some people will either use their other characters or use their friends to donate wins in order to promote through the ranks. Of course it costs money, but it's probably cheaper for them compared to doing it the legit way. There are quite a number of people in Japan with the maximum rank (which cannot be lost once attained) and it's commonly believed that the majority of these were faked.

I can't think of anything of real value. You can do things like view stats of character usage, or track the movements of players depending on their privacy setting. But honestly, if you can't play in Japan then you'd just be wasting money on the subscription.

I'm slowly, but surely, beginning to resurface out of the huge backlog of "stuff" that I had waiting for me upon my return from a 2 week holiday. Short answer: soon! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

In regards to that cheating issue. Was that a problem in VF4: EVO and up? I recall reading that getting Champ rank was practically impossible due to the similar 10thdan-master situation.

It's a problem in any game with ranks. Tekken has the same kind of issue. Honestly, it's gonna happen so i wouldn't really worry about it.

Uh, thanks for the answers everybody, especially Myke.

I forgot another thing: what's that number that appears before each round, just right to the kana for card (ka– do)? It has a kind of square kanji just before it...

It's how many matches you have left on your card. After 500 matches you have to buy a new card (data transfers over of course)

That sounds cool. I thought they were walking around with 100¥ coins all the time, how naiive of me ahahah.

How much does a game cost when using the card?

(mods, please feel free to split the last posts to some other topic like "VF in Japanese arcades for beginners", I understand I'm slightly OT but I think it's nice to get to know these things)

I think you misunderstood, the card is not used for paying for matches. You still pay with a 100 yen coin every time you enter a match regardless if you have a card or not.

some arcade can play VF only 50 yen.

    100 yen is expensive.

I see. But why the 500 game limit then? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif
