The style of these tunes remind me a lot of the type of beats Madlib and the late Dilla created on their respective group of instrumental albums. (On second thought, Madlib may still be bringing out instrumental albums as of today. I haven't checked on what he's been up to over the last few years.) Anyway, I like the grainy production I hear on this audio file along with various samples of Soul/Jazz/R&B tunes. Never been a fan of "clean" sounding cookie-cutter Autotone-influenced beats that's become popular in mainstream rap music these days. Clever use of voice samples as well. I think they do a good job of setting the overall tone of your music.

Anyway, the beat for the third instrumental track that starts around the 4:30 mark and the last two tracks that starts around the 42:00 mark are hot. I like these three very much. The very first track is pretty good too, along with the morbid track that begins around the 38:00 mark. These are my favorite five overall tracks on this file.

I'm lukewarm about the second and fourth tracks, but it's more an issue of my personal taste than the quality of the tune. For me, many of the tracks I didn't mention above fall in the "above average" category if not "great", if that makes sense.

And the tune I heard around the 16:00 mark brings back fond memories of the Brand Nubian joint I rocked for years. Man, I loved that first album they did (One For All) before Grand Puba went solo for a while.

Edit: Oh yeah. Just found it on YouTube. The Brand Nubian track I'm referring to is "Wake Up" (Reprise in the Sunshine). The 23-year old track still sounds great even today. Bonafide classic.

Nice, I just had good listen to this while slaying some kids on Halo 4, I agree with Kruza very much like the instrumental work of JD/Dilla(rip) and Madlib, and in some parts even more like some of Jazzanova's work, listening to it reminded me of when I used to listen to Gilles peterson's radioshow every week he played loads of stuff like this.
Very golden era/retro sound from the days when Hiphop was still good, I could go on but don't want to sound like an old fart.

I'm lovin this soooo much, I know I'm gonna have this on repeat all day, if not all week. Very Madlib-ish. Very Dilla-ish. Even reminds me of Edan.

I'm not sure if there is anything to critique, it sounds beautiful! Is it for sale?

Golden Era Hip-Hop is my all-time favorite type of music.

Hey thanks for giving this a listen and kind words. It might go up for sale in the future, but I still have a few more tracks to meet the 6o minute goal I have for this and have been having trouble figuring out how to finish it up theme-wise. The vocal snips are somewhat deliberate to feel like a tale is being spun (though nothing super specific, any interpretation is 100% correct). Been sitting on this for about 2 years now, probably should get off my duff and finish it! Thanks for the references to check out too, some of that stuff I've not heard before. :)

    2p spam, more remixes...

This one was for a classical orchestral composer looking to expand his audience by having electronica remixes of his orchestral works ( I can dig that ). The coronet player in this particular recording he sent me to use is the same coronet player who played the theme to Green Hornet on television in the 60's. I think my junglism roots show in this one. :)

This one is just for fun. Skipping around some Steely Dan. ;)
