Dude, that old stuff was crazy! From what my Jamaican friends have told me, it used to be reeeally bad for gay men back in the days. Gay bashing wasn't just some "whoop their asses" type of thing. They were literally being killed. From what I hear now, it's not as bad as it used to be but it's still not a safe place for gays to "come out of the closet".
Still safer than the Middle East though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

This is not Spanish, it's gibberish and the guys behind this song are not Dominican, I repeat NOT Dominican. They are Panamanian.
I don't want people to keep thinking that my people came up with this. As genius as it is XD I gotta give credit where credit is due, blame Panama! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

    ^Damn you Panamaaaa!!! hahaha.

Here's a Summer playlist I threw together recently. These are really slow/progressive tracks, so be ware. Aim was just classy stuff that I've liked over the years/recently discovered and went well with evening Summer themes. I'm almost willing to slap a guarantee on it that it will get you a girlfriend or at least a one-night-friend if a female is to hear the entire album in its entirety, but due to lawful reasons, I'll just claim that it -probably- will.

Here's what sounds like a jazzier remix of the Snake Eater theme song

    Trust me, it's good /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif
According to the guy who uploaded this, this is a promovid made by Konami. The vid is pretty awesome.
I don't know why I haven't been able to get this song out of my head. I mean, the lyrics make little sense, if any... it's just so damn catchy and the lady that sang it did such an amazing job.
Her name is Cynthia Harrell and some of you may remember her voice from Castlevania: Symphony of The Night. She sang this song:
    I Am The Wind
    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mvp3bZWeMIY&feature=related"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mvp3bZWeMIY&feature=related" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I never actually got into this game or owned it but I stumbled on it while searching for more Cynthia Harrell songs. Sadly, these were the only two songs of hers I could find.

I never played an MG game in my life, but occassionally listen to the sound tracks all the same.

Hhhmmm, did some scoping about, there's indeed nothing to find on Harrell besides those two songs. Probably a studio/session artist then, attached as background singer to random bands or something.

Reminds me of a Amy Winehouse concert I saw on tv, one of the two (male) background singers had a more impressive voice than she did, if you ask me.

Me too man, me too... hey, you're pretty far ahead on MGS4, right? Have you heard any epic songs yet? It would be really cool if Hideo brought back Cynthia Harrell for a couple more songs.

Nas - Be A Nigger Too
    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DHdG3cFPtrU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DHdG3cFPtrU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Don't let the name of this song fool you. This is real Hip Hop. This is creative self-expression. This isn't some "jump on the bandwagon" b.s. rap.
None of that "I'm going to rap about bling, hoes, drugs, sex and violence just to sell records" b.s. rap.
This is real, raw, from-the-heart creativity. Most people might not agree with his views on the word Nigger but you can tell that Nas wrote this from the heart. One of the last few poets left in the Hip Hop biz.

Does anybody else get the feeling that he's trying to take the "power" away from the word Nigger? It's like everybody's given this word so much power but he's trying to make it just another word. Well, that's the message I get from it.

Even if you don't like this kind of music, check out the video and see if it doesn't make you look at the word Nigger differently.

Heard a few tracks Tony (In MGS) that really stood out but didn't catch their names yet. I got the soundtrack with the game so I'll give that a listen later.

Nas initially titled that entire album Ni****, but his record company refused it. He said his sole intention was to do as you just said, take the power or original meaning away from the word. Duno what to think of it all, I think it's good intentions, but can't say for sure.

Nice track Kristina. Really enjoy the piano. Piano and violin are my weakpoints /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif Not a -huge- fan of BT's overall stuff, but his singles always stand out. I dig that still shot of the girl on the plane too.

Real interesting, I didn't even know Nas had a single out. I heard people in an uproar over the title of his album, but then that was it.

It's funny you should bring up the "power" of the word nigger. I made a statement to one of the players at Flash's house yesterday. I don't remember how we got to the subject, but the individual said something about the word cracker. I remarked how that word doesn't really hold any power because when a white person is called by that name they usually laugh. It either confuses or amuses them, but never really seems to insult.

On the other hand, when a black person is referred to as a nigger they become incredibly defensive. I can understand that there was a time when that word held a lot of power, but I think it's time to stop trying to fight everyone who utters it. Even if it does hurt pretend it doesn't. What impact will it have if you laugh at it?

I've never personally been hurt by the word. Every time I heard it though I felt uncomfortable. I felt as though there was an unwritten code that I was defying by not fighting with person who uttered it. Thats that only real emotional reaction I've gotten from it. The word has even become a stable in my vocabulary. I'd like get past the point of it being able to affect my people at all. Thats a long shot though...

Yooo, me tooo. Even though I'm Hispanic, whenever the word was used in my presence I felt like it was more to feel me out and see "which side I'm on" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif.
Even though I'm part White, I always think about my mom whenever someone makes hateful remarks about Blacks bc even though she is Dominican, she's darker than I am and what goes through my head is "if these people saw my mom walking down the street, they would call her a nigger too" that thought would get me so heated that I would lose control and react violently. Shit, for all I know they called me a Spanish-speaking nigger behind my back but those were my younger "whatchusayboutmymomma?!" days, I'm much more civilized now. I've learned that getting violent against racists doesn't teach them anything except not to say that shit to your face and just makes your race look worst /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Ever looked into the etymology of that word? It's origin seems relatively benign and not derogatory or controversial at all. In short, it came from the latin word 'niger', pronounced 'knee-ger' which simply means black.
Crazy how much power that word has gained over the years.
The word doesn't affect me at all anymore, it really would be cool to see the day that it didn't affect most people either.
