I realize I'm being unclear. I couldn't decide how to present this. It pains me a little to hear Boston being used to promote a casino. Brad Delp kills himself and then they sell out(?). I'm just thinking that there are people who feel the same bit of pain about Black Sheep being used to hawk Kias.

I thought about this AFTER I determined that the Kia commercial is awesome.

Just a strange observation.

 

Dunno about the music but what struck me about the second commercial is the lack of young people. It looked like a commercial for viagra or a funeral service.

Heh - it's marketed directly to me. I'm 41. I looked at those people and saw nothing related to what you mentioned. Of course I can see it now. The power of targeted advertising!

 

What's worse is the audio compression. Ever have to turn the volume down on your TV when your show goes to commercial? Yup, audio compression at work. It's adjusted to attract you to the set once you've stepped away, and often they accomplish this by using a memorable song. "Oh I love this song!"

Oh yes, they know.

This is so sincere and beautiful, I just had to post it!

Also, a little story to go with it:

Billie Holiday (the person that gave Lester Young his nickname 'Prez') and Lester Young (the person that called Billie Holiday 'Lady Day') used to be very close, but for some reason, they went their separate ways years before this show was recorded. Then when they were both invited for this, they very carefully avoided each other, staying on opposite ends of the room. Lester Young wasn't well, he was originally supposed to play in the big band section, but he was too ill to do it. One of the producers then told him to sit in with Billie Holiday. He could just sit down and do his solo.

In the end, this got us one of the most honest blues-solos in (recorded) history.

Mirror's Edge has some of the best soundtracks for video games, in my opinion. The digital ambience is something enjoyable to play with or to listen to on it's own.

I remember when I was in Paris last year and I noticed some poster saying 'Sonny Rollins in concert!'. Below the text, there was some old guy with a grey beard and a saxophone. I was so used to seeing old black and white pictures of him, that it took me a couple of minutes to realize that he'd grown old, so that's how he looks these days .
