It's awesome that you hear all the tracks from back in the days but there are more and more true emcees nowadays, in contrast to the Soulja soldiers. They are underground but they're straight up dope.
For example Busdriver, dumbfoundead, Celph Titled, L.A. Symphony, Thirsty Fish, Super Barrio Bros, the whole Project Blowed crew, Pigeon John, and much much more.

If you like stuff from the Eighties, don't forget Whodini.

Yo Jemun, it's funny you mentioned both Busdriver and Pigeon John. I got a song with both of those cats on it. It's on the Pigeon John feat. Pigeon John album. All of LA Symphony is dope, but my personal favs are Great Jason aka J-Beits and B-Twice. But those are alot of West Coast cats you mentioned though. Real talk, I'm glad Chubb Rock came back and hooked up with Wordsmith (definitely putting Baltimore on the map!!!).

ShinjukuATM I feel what you're saying man... There's way more dope artists pumping dope songs out than there than the media notices (or wants to acknowledge). People in general have become complacent when it comes to hip hop or music in general. I mean, when some dude can get on the mic and talk about absolutely nothing, while sounding like a new member of the decepticons, somethings not right. I mean rapping to get dough is aight, 'cause its a job, but the true emcees that spit out of passion regardless of money is who I'm lookin' at. I mean job is a job, but to me being an emcee is more than that. I'm not tryin' to sound like KRS One or nothing, but I compare hip hop nowadays to martial arts. The joint is getting watered down so much so that those that are truly into the art are getting ostracized. And the new cats coming up don't really know what "true" hip hop is, because all they see around them is style bitters, auto-tuned singers, commercial thugs, and internet soldiers.

Haha, that's so awesome that you're listening to all those fantastic emcees (L.A. Symph, Bus, PJ).
Never thought someone else has the same musical taste like me.

Man, my music list is beyond eclectic. You should check out Brother Ali, and Hezekiah. Matter of fact, just check this out...

Hezekiah is out of Philly. He does work with other cats from Philly and Baltimore. This song was actually made with a live band that performs with him.

This time I don't really care much for Wale's verse, but Brother Ali puts it down.

That's just pure dope music that doesn't get put out on the mass media...

Don't think I've posted anything by Sonny Rollins before. This is a tune by Thelonious Monk, called 'Misterioso'. Sonny on Tenor Saxophone, Monk on piano:

Giant Steps by John Coltrane (a revolutionary tune because of the complicated chord changes), animated note-by-note:

Yeah Mr. Lif is dope. I got his Emergency Rations album, and I was hooked... I think thats around the same time I started getting hooked on MF Doom.

Man, I love Sonny Rollins and Thelonious Monk!!! I like how so many renditions of 'Round About Midnight' were created because of how its composed. The chord progressions are great, too... Does anyone remember what scale that song is played in???

Today, I was drawing Mask deSmith, Coyote Smith and Con Smith and got hyped again... killer7.

Not only is it the best game around, has the coolest characters, some awesome artworks and ...(15 minutes - of praising a videogame - later). However, the OST is also badass, check it out:

    Jun Fukada - Tecks Mecks

The melody on both tracks is calm and beautiful.

Shinjuku: You want more? I've got lots more..:

The John Coltrane Quartet performs 'My Favorite Things' in France, 1965. This is the most intense group of musicians ever. Even if you disagree, this video proves it. On the day of this concert, which was outdoors, it was pretty cold. This caused the group, that was playing as intensely as ever, to actually produce steam! You can see it best towards the end of the second video. Elvin Jones must've had a smokemachine in his shirt or something

    John Coltrane Quartet:

    John Coltrane, Tenor Saxophone
    McCoy Tyner, Piano
    Jimmy Garrison, Bass
    Elvin Jones, Drums

Next: a tune written by Bobby Timmons: Moanin'.
Performed by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

I personally haven't heard anyone that swings as hard as Bobby Timmons does, just listen to his piano solo!

Last for now, something quite special. This is Pharoah Sanders, a saxophone player that played with John Coltrane during the last two years of his life. This man can produce incredible sounds with his horn, pretty scary sounds too.

Anyway, here he's playing under a bridge. There's some other guy playing a harmonium (that's what it says in the comments anyway), great sound!

    The song is called 'Kazuko':

WOW Never thought I'd see Pharoah Sanders on VFDC I love that guy, I first discovered him a couple of years ago after I heard a great remix on one of his songs by '23 skidoo' on a radio show, since then I've heard some of his original stuff I like his dark moody atmospheric songs best, good post man.

Heh, although I still collect and listen to albums from the 1980s, I'm not limited to just them by any means. What I meant before in the earlier post is that I've been an avid hip-hop listener since that time, plus I'm usually good to research what's coming out then buy about 20 albums a year. But the last time I bought that many CDs in one year was in 2008. And I'm not an iPod guy or someone who searches and listenes to and/or download a lot of music over the internet to a PC. So my ears haven't been as close to the street as I would like in terms of keeping up with the latest material.

Anyway, I really like the Masta Ace and Edo G. video that ShinjukuATM posted. I'm a big fan of both of those guys. And after looking over the list of some of your favorite MCs, we apparently like many of the same dudes who get busy on the mic.
