    *sigh*

Hideo confirmed that there would be no radar at his various E3 interviews, just go to Yahoo and look it up man, I don't care what you think, as of now there is no radar planned for the game.

PS: Hideo is going to be alot more open about MGS3 so he avoid "Raiden" type situations.

Actually there will be a bit of a game in secret bases 1/3 of the game actually. This is where you will be able to use the radar.

Yeah I hope the game delivers....err ..well no I'm damn sure Kojima WILL deliver a top notch action game but I'm afraid the philosophical BS as you so well put , is kinda engrained within the whole metal gear series.Have you played MGS 1 recently?( maybe some of the others).Theres always some philisophical message Kojima is trying to put across with his games.Same as in Zone of the Enders.Well thats just my humble opinion on the situation any way.

I believe times like these call for more speculation. I'm sure it will be great, but its coming out next year...I'm just waiting to get my viewtiful joe in the mail right now.

Y'know, Kojima has always wanted to immerse the player in a complete sensory experience. He once said in an interview that if one of his regrets was that you couldn't use smell in a video game. Without the radar, you truly will have to rely on your senses more than the previous games. Grass rustling, twigs breaking...geez, I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait for this one!

And besides, who would have thought that a soliton radar system would have been invented in the '60s anyway? No nanomachines either, which is why Snake (or Big Boss) has a headset instead. Oh, and check out the missing eye on the close-up of Snake at the climax of the song in the trailer. It seems like Boss. Although, if the rumors in the last post are true, it would probably prove otherwise.

I'd be pretty happy if you never got to use the radar in any future MGS games. If 3 turns out a horrible as 2 was I'll never touch an MGS game ever again.

I found this on another forum. Someone posted this so what I did is copy and paste.

Supposedly a leaked MGS3 script of the whole game.

    WARNING...WARNING...WARNING
Do NOT read this if in anyway, you do not want the plot, characters, and settings of METAL GEAR SOLID 3 to be revealed. The following information is true, it is from the first drafted scripted of METAL GEAR SOLID 3. My source is one of the Japanese voice actors, that are lending their voices to METAL GEAR SOLID 3. He/she was given an early copy of the script to look over, and to date is one of the few people to know the actual plot.
I repeat, if you do not want to learn the plot of METAL GEAR SOLID 3 do not read on - don't blame me or my sources for publishing this article. You reading this is of your own free will.

Introduction to METAL GEAR SOLID 3:
First off, lets get right to the chase and tell you the TRUTH about the METAL GEAR SOLID 3 subtitle. It is not actually going to be SNAKE EATER. The game itself is divided into three totally different chapters, much like the previuous METAL GEAR SOLID 2 was. Each chapter has its own subtitle, and depending on which you play from the subtitle will shown under the title METAL GEAR SOLID 3. Kojima mentioned that gamers will have a 'big' surprise when they actually begin playing METAL GEAR SOLID 3, this is true. The surprise will be that the first chapter of METAL GEAR SOLID 3 is not actually the chapter we have been seeing the screens for. The first chapter of METAL GEAR SOLID 3 is actually entitled THE PATRIOTS, much like earlier rumors have mentioned. I will describe this chapter later though. The second chapter is entitled SNAKE EATER, and it is the chapter we have been seeing screens from. The third chapter is entitled THE TRUE SONS. Next I will give an overview of each chapter's characters, settings, and plot.

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE PATRIOTS
The following is a list of characters that have appeared in other METAL GEAR games, and also appear in this chapter. All characters not mentioned here should be presumed dead characters in the series.
Solid Snake - Is the playable character in this chapter.
Hal Emmerich (Otacon) - On the codec, assisting Solid Snake with information.
Revolver Ocelot - Returns for a boss fight in this chapter, only to die at the end of it.
Liquid Snake (Ocelot's Arm) - Returns as Revolver Ocelot's arm, controls Ocelot during boss fight.

The setting of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE PATRIOTS is in an underground facility near the NEW YORK harbour. It is the presumed hiding place of the modern day Patriots. The facitlity is large and was built during the Cold War to keep the Patriots safe during a nuclear attack.

The plot of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE PATRIOTS is a doozie. This chapter is about 15% of the total game length. It will take most gamers an estimated 3 - 4 hours to complete. This chapter begins directly after the events of METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY. Solid Snake still wearing the same sneaking suit as in the previous game has the location of the Patriots. He knows that Revolver Ocelot, is hiding somewhere in an underground facility in the NEW YORK harbour. This is same location that Otacon believes that the Patriots are hiding. The level begins much the same as previous METAL GEAR SOLID's with Snake swimming to the facility. He enters in through a grate near the bottom of the harbour. There the actual playable game begins, as the player must navigate Snake through tunnels, using a harpoon gun to defend him from various guards swimming the tunnels. Of course there are also suppost to be small drainage ducts for the player to use stealth instead. Eventually Snake will enter the facility and find that the interior is a well lit mansion, crawling with guards. Snake then calls Otacon to find out what the place is. The message between Snake and Otacon can actually be heard at the end of METAL GEAR SOLID 2. This is when Otacon explains that the Patriots have been dead for about 150 years. There the message at the end of METAL GEAR SOLID 2 cuts off, but Otacon continues explaining that the Patriots probably adopted the names of dead people to hide their identities. Snake continues exploring the facility eventually getting discovered by guards and having to fight his way through legions of them (much like in the original METAL GEAR SOLID where he had to climb the tower). He eventually escapes with a PAN card to enter the "burial room". Here he finds a room much like a morgue with the bodies of tweleve dead men inside each metal coffin. Each coffin has a short biography on each man enscribbed on it. Otacon explains that he believes that these maybe the bodies of the dead Patriots, even though this doesn't make sense considering what he had earlier said about the Patriots using the names of dead people to hide their identities (maybe a problem with translation here). Otacons asks Snake to find the name Jeffrey Turner, who was one of the names on the list, and was also a major contributor to Philanthropy. The player must read all of the bio's of each dead Patriot and the last one to be read is Jeffrey Turner's. Before Snake can read it Ocelot runs past the doorway to the 'burial room'(for some reason Snake leaves it open). The player must chase after Ocelot into a large underground room (much like the Metal Gear Rex room in METAL GEAR SOLID) there Snake realizes he is trapped as the door locks behind him. The room is filled with Metal Gear Rays. Revolver Ocelot jumps on top of one of the Ray and looks back at Snake. In what is going to be an amazing FMV, Snake fires a single bullet at Ocelot. We follow the bullet in bullet time, as it travels the long distance up towards Ocelot. It nails Ocelot square in the head, and he falls dead to the floor. Snake turns back to the doorway, believeing Ocelot dead, and an old voice speaks to him.
    Liquid Snake: Hello brother!
Snake turns around to see (yes this is sort of weird) Ocelots dead body standing back up being 'possessed' by Liquid.
    Snake: Liquid!
Liquid Snake: So you finally found me brother! But I am not your true enemy ... anymore.
    Snake: What?!
    Liquid: He has them.
    Snake: Who?
Liquid: You and Gurlukovich's daughter had more incommon than you believed, he has both of them!
Snake: Who the hell are you talking about!?
Liquid: Who else? He took away the most important thing to Olga, so that he could control her. What could he have taken from you?!
    Snake: ...?
Liquid: The girl! Turner has both Olga's daughter ... and your Colonel's niece!
    Snake: Meryl!
Liquid: But you can't save them, Snake. I have lived ... no existed inside this arm for one thing at this point. The perfect battle between the 'perfect' soldiers!
    Snake: Who has them Liquid?!
    Liquid: Turner of course!
    Snake: Who is Turner?!
Liquid: Turner and Saladin are one, and the same.
    Snake: Saladin ... Big Boss!
Liquid: Yes, my brother he had them.
    Snake: Where?!
Liquid: That you must learn on your own. Even I don't know the whereabouts. Solidus told Ocelot before he died to "return to the origins". But you won't have time for that!
Liquid/Ocelot jumps inside the Ray, and turns it on.
Liquid: Finally a true battle! The brother of light and the brother of dark fight once again!
Snake looks around and see nothing to fight it with. He turns to one of the Rays and quickly jumps in! Snake somehow knows the controls of the Ray, and shows Kojima's comedic flare by stating a hilarous line:
Snake: This is a little TOO natural.
The player actually gets to control Metal Gear Ray (this is the vehcile Kojima hinted towards). In what is going to be the most amazing boss battle in history, Snake and Liquid fight each other's Rays. Once the player has beaten Liquid, Snake jumps out of cockpit and enters Liquid's Ray to find him finally dead. Snake tells Otacon what happened and Otacon instructs Snake to read Jeffrey Turner's bio in the 'burial room' to learn more about him. This is what Otacon believes 'returning to the origins' meant. Snake returns to the 'burial room' and begins to read Turner's bio. The chapter ends with Snake saying this to Otacon as he learns that Turner was a US Army Ranger, and had a covert op in Russia in 1963. During this operation Jeffrey Turner was suppost to have lost an eye.
Otacon: So he was a US Army Ranger?
    Snake: A Snake Eater.
    Otacon: A what?
Snake: A Snake Eater. It's what the US Army Rangers call themselves.
Otacon: Snake, maybe "returning to origins" means going back to the back to the first place he lived or fought.
Snake: Fought, huh. Well it seems he had a covert op in Russia in '63.
    Snake reads the bio more.
    Snake: ...metal gear!?...
    Otacon: What?! During the op?
Snake: This is definitely the place ... the first appearce of METAL GEAR!
Otacon: Who is this Turner anyway? He was ... or is a Patriot?!
Snake: He's more than that ... he's my father.
The screen will fade to black as the next chapter begins - METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER. This chapter tells what happened to Jeffrey Turner or Big Boss as he was later called during his covert op in Russia in 1963. The player will actually get to control Big Boss throught out this chapter! This is the same chapter Konami has shouwn screens from - to date.

I will leave this for now, but if enough people want to learn about the other chapters, then I will post my write up for them as well. If more people are angry and don't want to know anymore then I won't.

Thanks, to all who helped make this.

    New_One WARNING...WARNING...WARNING
DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU IN NO WAY WANT TO LEARN OF THE PLOT, CHARACTERS, AND SETTING OF CHAPTER TWO OF METAL GEAR SOLID 3. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    CHAPTER TWO:

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER

The following is a list of characters from previous METAL GEARs that appear in METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER.
Big Boss/Lt.Jeffrey Turner - Is the playable character during this chapter, he is the same age as Solid Snake during the previous Chapter.
Dr.Pettrovich - Hostage of the Spetznaz, creator of the Metal Gear TX.
The following is a list of characters new to the series that appear in METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER.
Colonel Jackton - In contact with Turner over a radio.
Blade Spetznaz - First of four boss fights in this chapter, Blade Spetznaz is one of the three HUNTER Spetznaz sent to track and kill Turner.
Camouflage Spetznaz - Second of four boss fights in this chapter, Camouflage Spetznaz has various types of camouflage to hide himself from Turner. Is one of the three HUNTER Spetznaz sent to track and kill Turner.
Tree Top Spetznaz - Third of four boss fights in this chapter, Tree Top Spetznaz is one of the three HUNTER Spetznaz sent to track and kill Turner.

The Setting of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, takes place in a densely wooded area, with mountains and streams. This wooded area is located in Soviet Union, although the script never discloses the actual location (more research is needed here, Kojima!). There is one base that you have to infiltrate for the story itself, but there are numberous other bases that you can attack for fun, and steal food from. This forest is suppost to be huge, taking literally one hour to reach the end from all sides. The base you must infiltrate only has few indoor locations, most of the base is surrounded by a wall.

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER - THE PLOT
Now for the juicy stuff. Again I warn you not to read this unless you want to actually know what happens in the game itself.
The chapter begins with Snake narratoring what is happening, because this whole chapter is basically the report that Snake is reading in the 'burial room'. You see a man in a parachute, dropping in to the forest from the sky. He lands removes the parachute and mask he was wearing the stands infront of the camera. He looks exactly like Solid Snake, as the title appears - CHAPTER TWO: SNAKE EATER. Turner looks around and ducks down, grabbing his radio from his gear. I'm not sure how this radio will look, because the script doesn't really describe it, thought I personally believe it won't be much different from the codec system. Here is a quick transcript of the briefing given to Turner by Colonel Jackton.
Turner: Colonel, I'm in. The landing was a success.
Jackton: Good. Listen, Jeff I'm sorry I haven't been able to tell you anything up to this point, but now you're in I can.
Turner: That's alright. Just tell me what needs to be done.
Jackton: It ain't gonna be a cake walk that's for sure. Two months ago a German scientist was kidnapped by the Soviet government. This scientist was working on a new type of weapon, to defend his country from any possible invasion from the Soviets.
Turner: That Berlin Wall ain't gonna do much good again't an army would it.
Jackton: No, but with this new weapon they could have defended all of the Western World.
    Turner: What is it?
Jackton: No idea. But whatever it is, we think that the Soviets want him to make them one.
    Turner: Who is he anyway?
Jackton: He is Dr. H. Pettrovich. A mechanical genius. Listen, Turner you have to find him. We believe that they have him held up in the base eleven miles ahead of you. You'll have to walk the rest of the way there, and watch out, we've heard there are plenty of enemy centries ahead of you.
From there Turner begins his eleven mile trek to the base north, or you could go east, west or south and attack the other bases for food and weapons. Turner will start out with a knife, but can steal various weapons from the enemies, as well as interrogate them for information. The script has literally 1,000's of different interrogations written for Turner. This whole chapter is meant to show you how more vicious Big Boss was than Snake is. The player will feel compelled to jab the knife deep into the throat of the enemy he has captured, while Snake would have just snapped his neck. Also, while Snake kills someone with respect, Turner will often poke fun at the person he has just stabbed and is slowly dying, this shows how truly merciless Big Boss is. Anyway, back to the plot summary. Turner will eventually reach a mountain that he must climb to get around, here an FMV opens as a HUNTER Spetznaz finds him. The Spetznaz tells Turner that they have been tracking him and that two other HUNTERS have been sent to kill him. A boss battle ensues between BLADE SPETZNAZ and Turner. The BLADE SPETZNAZ knocks Turners gun out of his hand during the FMV, so Turner can only use his knife to slash at BLADE SPETZNAZ. BLADE SPETZNAZ also only attacks Turner with a knife. When Turner has defeated BLADE, he picks his gun back up and continues on. At this point the game will be somewhat timed or something, because the next two boss battle can occur anywhere in the forest. Either way the next boss battle is against CAMOUFLAGE SPETZNAZ who Turner injures during the opening FMV for the boss fight. CAMOUFLAGE SPETZNAZ is tries to escape Turner by using his different camouflage types. This battle is described in the script to be much like the Cyborg Ninja fight in METAL GEAR SOLID. The player will have to watch the screen carefully for the slightest change in the environment as well as sounds of rustling leaves, and breaking twigs. Once Turner has shot CAMOUFLAGE enough, the boss fight is over. The next boss fight occurs sometime later just outside the base. Turner climbs up to the top of a tree in the FMV and uses his binoculars to observe the enemy base. Turner is ambushed by the last HUNTER and is knocked off the tree, his gun and knife falling to the ground below. He manages to grab the limb of the tree as TREE TOP SPETZNAZ swings onto the same branch as Turner. This boss fight is unusual because the entire fight will probably only take a few minutes to beat. Both Turner and TREE TOP are gripping the branch with one hand while punching each other with the other hand. With each hit the grip gauge goes down, and when it reaches zero Turner or TREE TOP falls to their death. After the fight Turner climbs down and picks up his gun and knife and sneaks into the base, by climbing over the wall with a rope. This can only be done under the cover of darkness, so the player may have to wait to infiltrate the base. Once inside Turner will have to find the building Dr. Pettrovich is in. Once Turner finds Pettrovich, he explains to Turner that the Soviets have made him build METAL GEAR TX. When Turner tries to sneak Pettrovich out of the base, he is found by the enemy centries. In what will surely be a truly incredible FMV the player watches as Turner kills literally all of the enemy soldiers in the base. Pettrovich meanwhile is hiding behind a nearby bunker, watching this all playout. This I believe is meant to show the player why Big Boss was known as the 'greatest soldier of the 20th century'. With dead soldiers all over the place, Turner returns to Pettrovich. Before they can both escape though, the METAL GEAR TX rolls up infront of them. The METAL GEAR TX is described to be a large tank, with a rail gun and an inter-continental balistic missile launcher. Turner dodges its first volley of bullets, hiding behind a wall, but a piece of the wall shatters before him and he loses his right eye. From now on the camera will be really unusual because the right side of the screen is gone (probably because Turner's right eye is gone). Pettrovich brings Turner a rocket launcher, and asks him to destroy it. The last boss battle of this chaper ensues as Turner must defeat METAL GEAR TX, only being able to see half of the screen. This battle I am guessing will be much like anyother Metal Gear battle, firing as many rockets as you can at it then dodging the fire. When the boss fight is over, you see Pettrovich dive into the moat around the base, as the base explodes. Pettrovich looks up and the camera switches back to its full screen mode. From the flames of the destroyed base, Turner walks towards the camera. Here is a sample of some of the final dialogue between Turner and Pettrovich as the chapter ends.
    Turner: We've gotta get moving.
Pettrovich: How!? How the hell did you do that?
    Turner: Do what?
Pettrovich: You killed all of them!? All by yourself! And Metal Gear! That unit was made to be impervious to all forms of attack! And you destroyed it on your own!
Turner: It was in my way.
Pettrovich: You have abilities ... one's that set you apart from anyone else! People like you should be ruling this world! With your strength!
    Turner: I'm no politician...
Pettrovich: You wouldn't have to be! People would listen to you, because you are the strongest! The greatest!
    Turner: Sounds like a dictatorship.
Pettrovich: Maybe, but it would be better than the 'cloud nine' bull we have to day. The battle of ideologies has only begun. We need a world outside of this 'heaven' they have now.
    Turner: ...an Outer Heaven.
    Pettrovich: Yes.
Turner is then radioed by Colonel Jackton.
    Jackton: Turner! Are you alright!?
Turner: Turner here. Yep I'm okay, and so's the Doctor.
Jackton: That explosion! Was that your doing?
Turner: Sure was, there's no threat now.
Jackton: Then you pass, Turner. Or should I say Big Boss.
    Turner: What?
Jackton: I apologize, but we knew the Soviets had built the Metal Gear TX to begin with. This was all a test.
    Turner: For what?!
Jackton: To find who could command and train a new elite team.
    Turner: What is this Colonel!?
Jackton: You're being offered the chance of a lifetime Turner, to run FOXHOUND. Imagine, your own task force of elite soldiers - the best in every field!
    Turner: Why me?
Jackton: Anyone who can pull off what you just did, sure as hell deserves to command this team.
Turner: So you sent me on a suicide mission to run your little team!? Well screw you and screw your team!
Turner turns of the radio and leaves the legacy behind him. This is were the game switches back to the 'burial room', were Snake has finished reading the bio. This is a sample of the transcript between Snake and Otacon at the end of CHAPTER TWO: SNAKE EATER.
Snake: So Big Boss leaves the chance to run FOXHOUND. Instead he lives as a mercenary for the next 20 years, saving his money to build Outer Heaven. Then, in the 1980's he decides he does want to run FOXHOUND, and they just let him...
Otacon: My bet is that he became a Patriot somewhere in that 20 year timeline. Being a Patriot meant that he could run FOXHOUND, without anyones permission.
Snake: Then what he defies the Patriots and builds Outer Heaven?
Otacon: Not sure, there's still very little we know about Big Boss or Jeffrey Turner. Either way, if 'returning to the origins' does actually mean returning to were he fought - then this jungle seems like the perfect place to look!
Snake: Lots of cover, and no one would think to look for him there. One things for sure, the Patriots are dead. Their remains have been here awhile.
    Otacon: And Big Boss?
Snake: His remains are here too. Whoever this is ... it's not the 'real' Big Boss.
    Otacon: How are you sure?
Snake: I watched him die, myself.

This ends CHAPTER TWO: SNAKE EATER. SNAKE EATER about 45% if the game. The next Chapter - METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE TRUE SONS, deals with Snake entering the same forest that Big Boss did 50 years earlier. Snake must find Olga's child and Meryl, as well as finally uncover the truth of the Patriots and Big Boss.

That's all I'm giving away for now. Again, if enough people want to see my write up for Chapter Three - METAL GEAR SOLID 3 : THE TRUE SONS, then I will post that as well. Although I will warn you now that the next write up gives away the ending and everything.
    WARNING...WARNING...WARNING
THE FOLLOWING IS AN OVERVIEW OF THE PLOT, CHARACTERS, AND SETTING OF CHAPTER THREE OF METAL GEAR SOLID 3. IF YOU DO NOT IN ANY WAY WISH TO LEARN WHAT OCCURS IN THE FINAL CHAPTER OF METAL GEAR SOLID 3, DO NOT READ. THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS SPOILERS OF THE ENDING OF METAL GEAR SOLID 3.

    CHAPTER THREE:

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE TRUE SONS

The following is a list of characters from previous METAL GEARS that appear in this chapter.
Solid Snake - Is the playable character in this chapter, now has the same moves and techniques as Turner did in CHAPTER TWO: SNAKE EATER.
Hal Emmerich (Otacon) - Over the codec, communicating with Snake.
Raiden - Returns to help Snake find Meryl and Olga's child.
Meryl - Having been revived after the events of METAL GEAR SOLID by Revolver Ocelot, the Patriots have kept her imprisoned for the last four years.
Big Boss - Although the original Big Boss is dead, an exact clone of him lives on to follow in his footsteps.

The setting of CHAPTER THREE: THE TRUE SONS is both in the same wooded area/jungle as the previous chapter only this time it is during winter so there is snow on the ground and trees, as well as an underground facility. The two previous chapters come to together to mix underground facility theme of THE PATRIOTS, with the wilderness/outdoor survive theme of SNAKE EATER.

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: THE TRUE SONS - THE PLOT

The plot of THE TRUE SONS follows suit with the mystery or espionage feel of the previous installments of the METAL GEAR series. The chapter opens with Snake, Otacon and Raiden driving through the jungle in a jeep. Here is a sample transcript of the introduction to this chapter.
Otacon stares down at his GPS tracker.
    Otacon: We're here Snake.
Snake stops the jeep and the three get out.
Snake: Alright, Otacon you stay here. Raiden and I will split up for now. Raiden, I'll meet you at the base ... hope you can stay alive out there, kid.
Raiden: I can take care of myself.
Snake: The facility is about eleven miles north of us.
Otacon: You're taking the same trek your father did?
Snake: He was never really my father. But, yes.
Raiden runs off, in another direction leaving Snake by the jeep. It will take about one hour to reach to the opening of the underground facility, and there will be less guards than there was in the previous chapter. The player will now have to contend with walking in the snow, and although the snakes are gone there are now various types of mountain cats that can attack Snake. The player will encounter various places they have been to before in the previous chapter, and will see how they have changed over fifty years. This is meant to give the player a sense of nostalgia or deja vu. When Snake finally reaches were the base was in the last chapter, all that is left is a duct leading down to the facility. In am FMV Snake approaches the duct, and is ambushed by twleve soldiers wearing snow camouflage. They each hit him with tazers, Snake falls to ground unconscious. Nearby, Raiden watches from the bushes having just seen the soldiers attack Snake. As the soldiers carry Snake down the duct with them, Raiden quietly attacks the last guard to go down the duct. Raiden drags the guard into the bushes and puts on the guards clothes. Raiden then enters in behind the other guards joining with the others. The screen fades to black. Snake wakes in a cell, much like in METAL GEAR SOLID.
Snake: Well this is a little TOO familiar.
Shortly after a brief call from Otacon, telling you that you are inside the enemy base, a guard enters the room and tells the other guard that he is relieved from duty. When the other guard leaves, the new guard walks up to Snakes cell and takes off his mask. It is Raiden, and he holds up a key to the cell. This is a sample transcript of the
    conversation between Snake and Raiden.
Snake: Get me outta here, kid.
Raiden: Sorry about that Snake, but I had to get in somehow.
Snake: You mean, you knew they were there?!
Raiden: You did the same to me in the Big Shell! There was no other visible way in!
    Snake: Ya ... I did.
Raiden opens the door for Snake. From now on Snake and Raiden partner together to investigate the facility. The script describes that the player will have to find an elevator and go three floors down. On the third floor there is a room entitled "nursery". Raiden guards the door, while Snake sneaks into the room. Inside the room there is only one guard and a nurse. All the player must do is kill or incapacitate the guard to open the FMV. Snake then interrogates the nurse asking her, who's child this is. The nurse had been wearing a clinical mask up to that point, and Snake realizes who the nurse really is by the eyes. Here is a sample transcript of the conversation between the nurse and Snake.
Snake: Is this Olga Gurlukovich's child?!
    Nurse: ...
    Snake: Answer m...
    Nurse: ...
    Snake: M...Meryl.
    Meryl removes the mask.
    Meryl: How did you know?
Snake: Same eyes, not soldiers eyes.
    Meryl: Caring, compassionate eyes, right?
Snake: Meryl!? I thought ... you were dead. I left you behind.
Meryl: I was dead. But after Shadow Moses, Ocelot was one of the few left. Solidus being the President at that time, helped him escape. Then 'he' told Ocelot to bring me with him, to revive me, like they did Grey Fox.
    Snake: But why? Why you?
Meryl: It was 'his' ace-in-the-hole. After Shadow Moses, 'he' realized what you had become. He wasn't going to take any chances with you. So if you ever challenged him, he would have something to control you with. But you found me.
    Snake: After four years...
Meryl: But I made it Snake! We both did! This is the child of Colonel Gurlukovich's daughter! No matter how many clones of Big Boss exist, only you - Snake are the true hero.
    Snake: ...
    Meryl: ...
    Snake: Who is he?
    Meryl: He is the Patriots.
Snake: But the Patriots are tweleve people ... how can one person be them?
Meryl: I don't know that Snake. I only know what he tells me.
    Snake: And that is?
Meryl: That the Wise Men's Commitee is dead, and has been for over 20 years. ...I think he wanted me to trust him. To get some sort of Stockholm's Syndrome. It was hard not to, he looked so much like you.
    Snake: What?!
Meryl: I don't know who he is, but he's not Liquid or Solidus. He told me everything about about the tanker, the Big Shell ...
Snake: Enough of this! We've gotta get you out of here.
Just then gun shots from outside the door go off. Raiden runs into the room.
Raiden: They know we're here Snake!
    Snake: Meryl! Get down!
Meryl: He knew must have known you were coming Snake. I think he wants to fight you.
Enemy guards burst into the room.
    Snake: Me? Why?!
Meryl: He wants to be ... you.
Raiden is shot, and falls to the ground.
    Snake: Kid! Dammit!
Snake gets extremely angry, and begins to fire at all the soldiers that come in. The camera switches to a floor shot, showing enemies falling to floor continuosly. When it is over Snake is the only one standing, with a cloud of smoke. Meryl and Olga's child are huddled in the corner. Raiden lie bleeding on the floor.
    Snake: Raiden!
Snake runs over to Raiden, and kneels down beside him, examining his wounds.
Snake: You're gonna be okay, kid. The bullet went straight threw, didn't hit any arteries.
    Raiden: I did good ... Didn't I Snake?
    Snake: Ya you did kid.
A shadow appears over Snakes shoulders, Snake turns around to see an exact look alike of himself, wearing the same clothes as well.
    Big Boss: Hello Snake.
    Snake: What the?
Big Boss hits Snake in the head, and the screen once again goes black.
At this point a sort of 'Dream Sequence' occurs, in which Snake remembers the different battles and missions he had been on. Up to date FMV's of the Outer Heaven Mission, Zanzibar Land, Shadow Moses, and the Big Shell will be seen. Then Snake will awake in the same room as he did at the end of METAL GEAR SOLID (the room were they housed Rex). The camera will be in first person view, but the player cannot move Snake. A dark figure stands before Snake.
Big Boss: So you finally wake.
    Snake: Where am I?
Big Boss: In your dream. This is a re-creation of Shadow Moses. Much like onboard Arsenal, but one-hundred times more detailed!
    Snake: Why?
Big Boss: I wanted it to be exact. The day you defeated Liquid, you became a true hero! A true SON of Big Boss!
    Snake: ...
Big Boss: I must become you, Snake. And to do that I must kill you.
    Snake: What?!
Big Boss: But before that I must ... help you become me. When it is over, I will leave with the girl and all your new friends. And they will believe you are no more than what I previously was.
    Snake: But why?
Big Boss: Because all other clones of the real Big Boss, haven't lived up to him! The greatest soldier of the 20th century! Liquid had the dominant genes, but you still managed to defeat him. Solidus was killed by Raiden, a soldier with none of our distinct family traits. That leaves you and I. You are obviously the true son of Big Boss. The true hero. I couldn't do in a hundred lifetimes what you have done! But I can steal your past, and make that past my own. By killing you, I can become you and all you have!
Snake: Hunted by the Patriots, ain't a good life. You'll learn that quick.
Big Boss: Ha ha! Yes the Patriots! Well I'll give you a little ... information about the Patriots!
    Snake: ...
Big Boss: They are all lying dead under the New York harbour! But to explain that I'll have to go back to 1963, after Big Boss's mission in the Soviet Union. He wanted it all you see, Pettrovich only encouraged him. The world was on the brink of chaos, and so eleven men joined together to create the perfect democracy. A sort of 'hidden' dictatorship. They would each rule the countries various sectors: politics, finance, agriculture, technology ... but they needed a twelfth member. Someone who could control the military with great power. They offered Big Boss this chance. Each took on the names of various dead citizens, to hide their own identities. But, that wasn't enough. Each member was in their late fifties or sixties. It was now the 1970's and cloning was becoming a more and more real. The Patriots decided that they could become immortal, by creating clones of themselves. That way they could always rule the United States. The first to offer his genes to be cloned was Jeffrey Turner.
    Snake: Big Boss...
Big Boss: Yes. His genes were to be the 'experiment'. They wanted to see if they could create BETTER versions of themselves. The Les Enfantes Terribles, project was born. First eight, then only two. You and Liquid. But the Patriots didn't like that some genes would be cut out while others left in, so your project was terminated! They left you and Liquid to die! Alone in orphanages you grew to become what you are today. That is where your story ends and mine begins. After the termination of the Les Enfantes Terribles project, the Patriots decided they wanted exact clones instead. The result was Solidus ... and I. With the genetic memory to know all that the real Big Boss knew, we could become him. That wasn't enough for the Patriots though, they didn't believe in us!
    Snake: I'm not surprised.
Big Boss: Instead, they waited 20 long years for Solidus and I to grow up. We were now in our twenties, and the Patriots had sent their eyes on world domination. First, Outer Heaven, but that was foiled by you. They didn't expect you would do as well as you did. It was also a test to see if the 'lesser' clones had any use. So they sent you in, they could lose you, you only had the recessive genes. Liquid was the one they couldn't lose. But alas, you succeed. And they try again, with Zanzibar Land. This time though, something happened that they didn't see coming. You killed Big Boss. With that a Patriot was dead.
Snake: So he really is dead...
Big Boss: Yes, he is. The Patriots called upon, me to succeed Big Boss - being his most 'promising' clone. Solidus and I had other plans though. During my ceremony to become a Patriot, we killed them. All of them
Big Boss narrates during FMV, that has no sound, just his narration. It shows in black and white Solidus and Big Boss killing the eleven Patriots, with machine guns. I suspect an emotional type of music will play here.
    Snake: You killed them all.
Big Boss: Yes we did. And with that, I took over as the Patriots for those, who knew of them. And Solidus took over as President. Only Solidus knew that I was the Patriots! James Johnson, believed that there still was a Wise Men's Commitee, as did everyone else. We could not tell anyone, because ... people can except a dictatorship of tweleve - it's atleast close to a democracy. But a dictatorship of one, is a dictatorship. Later, Solidus believed he was secretly creating a new form of METAL GEAR to challenge me with. I trusted him, he was my own brother! I knew of REX through my only spy Ocelot, though he too believed he was working for the Wise Men's Committee. This deceit cost him the Presidency, and eventually his life. So now you know it all.
Snake: One question. Why would you want to become me? You would be leaving the world behind?
Big Boss: Because of my name! I am BIG BOSS! ... But I don't deserve that name. I haven't lived up to it. You do. Living up to my father's legacy, means more to me, then ruling the world! When I kill you I will finally become the TRUE SON OF BIG BOSS!
Big Boss unties Snake, and runs to the other corner of the destroyed METAL GEAR REX they are standing on.
Big Boss: A true battle. No weapons, no rations, just our fists and our feet. The purest form of battle!
The final boss battle is much like the Liquid versus Snake battle on top of REX, in METAL GEAR SOLID. Only now Snake has his new moves to change that battle a little. Once Big Boss's life guage is down, the player must kick him off the side. When this happens an FMV occurs, as Big Boss is impailed on a piece of metal below. From here the script describes only that Snake, Raiden, Meryl, and Olga's child quickly crawl up from the facility to the forest. A beacon has been going off stating that the facility will self destruct (how original, Kojima!) in 5 minutes. Otacon is waiting for them outside, with the jeep. They all get on the jeep and drive away, just before the blast. Here is a transcript of the final lines of METAL GEAR SOLID 3.
Otacon: Is it over? Is it all over?
    Snake: Yes, it's over.
Meryl points at Raiden, who is still wounded.
Meryl: Is he going to he alright, Snake?
Snake: Yes, he's going to be fine. And ... my name is David.
Meryl looks down at Olga's child.
Meryl: And who ... is going to take care of her?
    Snake: We will.
    Meryl: We? Together?
Snake takes hold of Meryls hand.
Snake: Together, you ever be alone again.
They drive out of the forest to a beautiful sunrise, much like the end of METAL GEAR SOLID. Music plays, and the credits roll. THE END. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Interview with Hideo Kojima and PSM (if interested.)
PSM: So, Snake Eater-is this a game concept you've had in mind for a while, or is this something that you came up with after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 2?

Kojima: I usually think about my next thing once I'm done with what I'm working on now. So, I guess, in the summer of 2001 when I was almost done with MGS2, that's when I started thinking about it.

PSM: When we talked just after the completion of MGS2, you said you wouldn't return for MGS3. What changed your mind?

Kojima: Once I was done with MGS2, I whipped up a very rough game design for MGS3 and gave it to my staff. Then started work on Boktai [Kojima's upcoming Gameboy Advance game.] I was waiting for someone to raise his hand and say "I'm going to do MGS3." I waited a few months, but no one raised his hand. So I thought "Hmmm... I guess I've got to do it again" [laughs].

Then, when I knew that I had to do it myself, I started adding more details, heading in the direction you see now. I was changing the game system drastically, so we're taking a big risk in that sense. So, I guess I'm the only one that can handle that risk, so I decided to do it myself.

PSM: What was your mindset going into the project? What did you accomplish?

Kojima: It boils down to the jungle. We creator of Metal Gear, and other creators and game players, want to play in the jungle - we want to experience sneaking around and fighting in the jungle. But because of hardware limitations, people never really challenged this. So, I said "I'm going to do it."

PSM: Speaking of the jungle, what are new types of challenges to sneaking opposed to what we've seen before? Do you have to worry about stepping on twigs or something like that?

Kojima: Yes, since you're in the jungle, there's a bunch of hills. It's not a flat surface anymore, so you'll be crawling around, going up heights and going down. And like you said, the twig thing, you want to walk without making any noise, so you have to walk in this special way called "stalking." You have to walk very slowly, making no noise.

There's this other technique called "tracking" where you have to follow enemy tacks, look for footprints. The enemy will be doing the same to you, so you have to be careful. Also, when you climb up to high places, you might fall down and, you know, break your leg, and you'll have to treat your injury. All these things that are a part of survival in the jungle.

Also, here in the jungle not only soldiers are your enemies, but the plants and animals could be your enemies, too. There are many games out there, like PC games, that portray jungle, but they always have paths - you'll never find a road in the jungle or the mountains. So, what we're doing in MGS3 is that we're not providing any artificial roads. You can go in any direction. There might be cliff that you can't go up, but it's always a natural environment. It's up to you how you get through.

Metal Gear is a game where you try to infiltrate an enemy base. Because of hardware limitations in MGS and MGS2 you started right outside the base. But say you're trying to sneak into this base in "Country A"... in real life, you never land in "Country A" - you start out a few hundred miles away, maybe in "Country B", and maybe you swim in from the ocean or parachute down. We're making the player start out from this point and go through the mountains, the jungle, water... This is very important to a sneaking mission. This is the fun part too. This is where all the juice is.

PSM: Can dogs be used to track Snake, and if so, how can he evade them?

Kojima: In films and novels, dogs lose track of whom they are chasing when that person goes across a river. In reality, I have been told that this is not the case. At this point, I am still contemplating whether I want to make it realistic or keep the fictional flavor.

PSM: In MGS2, the player started on the Tanker but ended up on the Big Shell. Will we see similar structure in MGS3, where we spend a certain number of hours in the jungle before we reach the big base?

Kojima: It won't be that structured. You'll start out in the natural environment and then go into some buildings, but then you'll head out towards the next compound. It's not quite as simple as I'm describing it, but generally speaking that's how it works.

Also, in previous Metal Gear games, you would always infiltrate the enemy base from one certain spot. Now that we're portraying the surrounding natural environment, we're going to try and allow the player to infiltrate from anywhere. Because, even if it's some military base, there are always many doors, many ducts, so we're going to leave room for freedom.

PSM: Are you returning to Outer Heaven [from the original Metal Gear]?

    Kojima: I can't say [smiles].

PSM: Following up on something you said earlier... Will Snake constantly lose strength until he eats again?

Kojima: I can't talk too much about this, but if you don't eat it's not like you start slowing down or anything. You might start losing concentration when you're really hungry, and that could influence your game. If you do less waling around - like, if you try to just go to the base without doing other things - you won't have to eat as often.

There are fish, bugs, birds, snakes - you can catch them and eat them. You can also use them as weapons, such as throwing a snake at an enemy. You can always go into the enemy base and steal food from them, as well. However, if you mistakenly eat something that's poisonous, the you're in trouble.

We're adding the survival element, but we don't want it to be something that's really annoying. It will be there, but we'll make sure that it's not something that draws from the gameplay experience.

And since the game is about survival in the jungle, we have to add moves that you need to survive in the jungle. That's why you can climb trees, you can walk across branches, you can hang from them, hang with one arm and shoot, you can capture animals, and do stuff with plants. And you get to use a knife, too.

PSM: Will Snake's basic control setup change for MGS3? How about the inventory system?

Kojima: The control scheme will not change, the overall game system will evolve. You'll be able to enjoy survival in addition to stealth. The inventory system will look the same, however, since the game is about survival, there may be a limit to how many things you can carry around.

PSM: How do you catch fish?

Kojima: There will probably be several different ways to catch fish.

PSM: The knife is a new addition. Will you be able to use it for anything other than attacking?

Kojima: This is the first time that someone asked about the knife! Obviously, you can cut leaves, branches, and stuff. You can also grab someone and point the knife at his neck. Using the analog button feature, if you press it all the way you'll cut the guy's throat. But if you don't do that, if you push it gradually, you'll threaten the guy and interrogate him. So, you can get a lot of information from the enemies.

    PSM: What sort of information?

    Kojima: Secrets.

PSM: Will Snake be able to take weapons and other gear off enemies?

Kojima: We are still trying to finalize weapon issues. We have not decided yet.

PSM: Will the radar work the same? Also, will Snake once again be in contact with someone?

Kojima: Snake won't have a codec anymore, but he'll have a similar radio to talk to his people. Like, there will be a guy that you'll want to consult every time you want to try eating a new mushroom or something, or tell you if a type of snake is poisonous.

The game will definitely be more fun without the radar, but I'm sure there are people that wouldn't be able to play without it, so the player will be able to turn it on or off.

See, the big thing about this game is camouflage. There's this thing called the "Camouflage Index." Depending on what camo gear you're wearing or how you paint your face, you can blend into the environment. If you don't move, the enemy won't see you. Now, if you use the radar, that could spoil the fun. So, if people don't want it, they can turn it off.

The radar will probably look like the Soliton radar, but in the game, we're not going to call it that anymore because we don't want to spoil the world setting - we have to bland it into the story.

PSM: Speaking of the story, the game is set in the 1960s - Snake would have to be pretty old in MGS and MGS2 if this is the case...

Kojima: What you have in mind is probably correct, but I can't reveal anything [smiles]. In the trailer, did you see Snake in the fire with is eye...?

PSM: Yeah, we have a kind of conspiracy theory about that...

Kojima: Keep it to yourself [laughs]. What I originally wanted to do with Metal Gear is the espionage thing in the '60s, where you're a spy working on your own, infiltrating enemy bases. When everything is set in the 21st century, this whole spy thing doesn't work as well. That's why we're going back to the time when you have the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Espionage, battle, you can't trust anyone around you - this style of game works best in that era.

PSM: Some gamers have criticized MGS2's story as being too complicated. Has your approach to plotting changed for MGS3?

Kojima: The structure of MGS3 will focus on the game's tempo and storytelling instead of unfolding of mysteries and multiple twists. There will be less cinemas, and you won't simply be watching them - we are adding a new element to them.

PSM: Are the three MGS games meant work as a trilogy? Can we expect past storylines to be wrapped up?

Kojima: As for the grand theme, story-wise, the themes from all three games will become one. But this was never meant to be a trilogy - MGS3 is just the newest installment in the Metal Gear series. And I'd like to say once again that I'll probably step down as Director after MGS3. I really believe that and I'm going to pour so much of myself into MGS3, so you should really look forward to it.

But still, if no one raises their hand, I might have to do it again, you never know [laughs].

PSM: Our time is about up, so we'll just ask a few more questions... Will Snake get to operate any vehicles this time around?

    Kojima: Probably, yes.

PSM: Will Snake be able to set traps such as tripwire explosives?

Kojima: Traps are a part of the game plan, but they are hard to implement in the game.

PSM: How will the change from day to night affect gameplay?

Kojima: The animals and plants will change, as will the temperature.

PSM: One last question: have you tried eating snake?

Kojima: Not yet, but since we want the game to be realistic, we will try snake at some point [laughs].

This is great news! I was worried they might leave the radar out. The game sounds great. As long as they don't bring back that "Raiden" guy, I'll be happy to buy it. Hopefully they've figured out that people only want to play as Snake. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes whiny albino transvetites can ruin Metal Gear games, I think Kojima knows now. I was playing through MGS2 the other day again and I think its the constant Codec moments during Raidens story that really piss me off.
