Okay, that's it. I'm buying it. I need something to keep me busy until Kunoichi comes out in a few weeks... not that I dont' have a ton of games to play as it is.

I got my copy. Reports of Mario Kart's demise have been greatly exagerated. It is a great title that is fun for people of differing skill levels and that is in and of itself a serious technical achievement. I can pick a slow kart with a fattie driver and my girlfriend picks a fast light kart. The races are close and I can lose now and then. She just zooms along getting and firing weapons trying not to fall off while I try to get my heavy ride to turbo boost even in the tightest of corners. The controls are great and faster than I had imagined. It isn't so different from MK64, but is that so bad? That game was great. I wish the tracks were a little harder and I wish they had stuck the tracks from MK64 in the game somewhere, but still it deserves much higher than the 7.9 that ign gave the game. I guess time will tell how much I like the game in the long run, but I think that reviewers hold Nintendo to an impossible and unfair standard and when they don't give them exactly what they want they get all pissy. MK was always a shitty 1 player game. At least this one has unlockable karts.

Also, I can't find this post now, but I seem to remember some silly fellow saying something to the effect that "N64 games all have shitty controls" or something to that effect. Now I don't have the time or inclination to properly address this, but I must say that I was surprised to see it posted on a VF site. VF fans would seem to naturally gravitate toward Nintendo's games, chiefly because of the extreme level of quality and fine tuning that goes into each title, particularly the controls. Think Wave Race 64, Mario Kart 64, 1080 Snowboarding, F-Zero, Smash Bros. Zelda, and let's not forget the Behemoth that is Super Mario 64. There is more technical prowess and hours of work in Mario's running in one direction, pivoting on his foot to turn around, doing a super jump and then juming off the wall, than in most platform characters' entire repitoire of moves. This attention to detail and minutaie is what sets Mario and VF and Mario Kart apart from Jak and Daxter, Tekken, and uh, Wacky Racers. I mean if you want to bust upon Nintendo, do it for their character design and other taste related transgressions, not their control or other technical issues.

I agree. I'm glad they stuck to the MK64 control system for the most part.

You're right about the tracks being easier. I haven't unlocked everything yet, but so far I'm not having as much trouble as I thought I would. I managed to get 1st place in the 50cc competition on my first try, but I'm hoping it gets more difficult as I move up to 100/150cc. Multiplayer still seems to be the mode of choice.

Tracks are easier?!? Either I really suck, or you guys have only played 50cc! Because the moment you start 100cc you will see a huge difference.... Or did you guys mean the CPU is difficult but the tracks (design-wise) are easier?

Not to mention the time trial. It's hard to unlock the staff ghost without much practice, and even harder to beat them from what I read.

As for N64's control's being bad, I found that funny as well since the N64 controller pretty much owened others for action, adventure, etc games IMO (not fighting games though, of course). The stick was more precise than today's PS2, and the Z button placement was genious /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Back to Mario Kart. When Mario Kart 64 was out, I had a feeling that the game was missing something from the Snes game. But with time, and many multiplayer games, the game became the standard Mario Kart. Maybe it's the same case for this one /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

the one pattern i repeatedly see when it comes to the game difficulty is

'the game is quite easy...but i haven't really gone into 100 cc n 150 cc YET'

    XD

oH no!! der is no C buton! I feal sooooooo dumn know!!1one lololmaolol.

Lighten up bitch there was no need for you to get your panties in a twist. Just out of curiosity, what's the technical definition of a "jack nut"?

When I said "C" I actually meant "unplug the controller and put it in port 2, then press start". Happy cheating.

I played the 4 player mode for the first time yesterday with my friends.
Got the good old Mario Kart feeling from it, especially the “Battle Mode†where you have those three balloons flying around your Kart gave me flashbacks from the earlier versions of Mario Kart.

I had an 8 win streak and it all ended up in a good old argument, Good times /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's kinda like F-Zero, but here you have to beat certain times for tracks to unlock them. I am currently working on Baby Park, which you have to finish in under 1:14:00 to get the ghost. To beat him you need under 1:10:00!! Currently at 1:14:153 (+_+)

    EDIT: Just unlocked it!!! @#$%^&*!!!

Yeah. Basically the CPU is difficult, but the track designs aren't as challenging as I thought they would be (they're still fun though). I'm sure the fun factor increases even more when friends are involved. Time trial is very challenging also.

i see i see. i havent even unlocked one ghost in f zero yet... stoped playing for a while but yeah ok. i just
got to get kick ass times...uh.. yeah i can do that...

one of my favorite tracks is the simplest one...
damn fun sliding around those corners in baby mario
course, another guy swooping under you then you turbo
up past him. that course also gets crouded as fuck
    with shells and bananas...

Anyone wanna try this with Warppipe? If we're not too far we may get good games with little lag /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

You mean buy the Broadband adapter /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Don't make my mistake and order it from Nintendo.com, just check local Best Buys and you can probably find it. Nintendo took a whole lot of time to deliver mine (I still haven't received my Zelda collection disk yet (v_v) ).

Looking forward to racing you DRE /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Just finished playing someone in Charlotte. It was almost perfect speed!!! I played someone else in NC too but was a little slower, and the slowest game was with one in Toronto I think. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So it depends on distance heavily... I hope it can be more optimized for the future.
