Yea, no point bringing yours if Li's taking his and arriving from the start.

Judging from the train times posted by EV2 I'd say a 1pm start seems reasonable. Obviously people are welcome to arrive anytime if they can't make the start.

Ok I'll be aiming to get to the wh smiths in the train station around 12:30 so anyone else who wants to meet up there before heading to stephen's feel free.

the time seems ok, but if people are late or whatever, i don't think that anyone will be that bothered, i know i won't. we can all just play for a bit, warming up and what not. we could then start the league at about 3'ish, if everyone is cool with this. we could have a break from the game before the playoffs start for half an hour, give the Challengers some time to rest and recuperate. then we could have the finals.

    Faded:
the time we arrive at Edinburgh is twenty-to one, so make sure you are there.(we will meet you at WHS, unless you manage to find the platform we will be arriving at, then you could meet us there, like you did before.

here is my number, again, just in case you have to ring me.

    07786680434

hope it all goes well, i have recently developed a thirst for VF, after playing Mike and being told that i am infact, very good. (this means that both Faded and LiMeng can be proud of themselves, as they are both very hard to beat. (Li kicked me out of the tournament in Manchester, which i will never forget, but at least i came out on top when we played last time in Edinburgh!))

A quick request: Li, could you please bring your S-video lead along with the PS2 on Saturday.

The Toshiba my folks "fixed" has a dodgy scart socket that occasionally fucks up the display. If this starts happening we can just switch over to S-VHS input - if we've got the cable that is.

Also, I think someone already mentioned bringing an extra scart lead for the PS2...just a reminder to please bring this also. That way I won't have to pull cables out of the TV stand if we need to use the S-video lead.

Cheers, and see everyone at the weekend.

PS - Not heard much from stroppa recently, is he still confirmed for the gathering?

When's a safe time to turn up Stephen?

Also, what's your house number again?

I'd offer to bring things but it looks like you're all covered. I did buy dance mats if anyone's up for some DDR /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At the very least I'll contribute the bottle of unopened coke that's been sitting in my fridge for about a month.

It's no 27 Bellevue Crescent "Mackintosh/Kilpatrick" on buzzer. Just turn up anytime from 1pm onwards.

It's a good thing Debs dosen't frequent this board - if she heard you mention bringing DDR mats I think she'd cancel her trip this weekend. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just a quick post to say thanks to everyone for coming over on Saturday for a great session. Hope everyone had a good time and got enough games in. To be honest I think three set-ups would've been better for that many people, especially for those of us who rarely get to play other human opponents.

Well done to everyone for utterly trouncing me in the tournament and not giving me a single point /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif I've no excuses other than I sucked and everyone played much better than me. Also a special well done to Li for coming so close to beating Shaun in the tournament and to Ryan for coming third ( I think). I think that shows there are some very good players here in Scotland.

Well andy and Shaun are safely on the way home now, and if the bus ride was anything to go by possibly arguing intensly.

I had a great time this weekend, even more so than last time as I didn't get sick of VF at all and was really sad when it was time for Andy and Shaun to go as I could have kept playing much longer.

I was pretty impressed with everyone's standard this time, expect maybe my own.

Actually I'm pretty unimpressed with myself, not because I played badly (I don't think I did) but I continued to make incredibly stupid decisions that emphasised style over damage over and over the course of the weekend even when it cost me the match several times. I feel it's made me a slightly worse player than I was a couple months ago when taking max damage out of every situation. Speaking of me I saved a load of matches and I'll try and get them up sometime this week. I should mention I mostly saved matches that I won, which wasn't the way the majority of them went at all.

Many congratulations to Shaun for winning the tournyey. Even if I did have a harder time with Andy, I think against everyone you were the strongest player this weekend, and the tourney reflected that. (Don't listen to Andy when he says it didn't mean anything /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Li - Have a safe trip home. Having you around this past year has been great, and it's done wonders for the level of vf around here. You're always my inspiration to get better. Let's try and get even more games in next time.

Rest of us; Let's play more, we need the practice. Wednesday anyone? /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Wednesday is good, you're all welcome here. Not sure when Li is departing but if it's possible it'd be good to play him one last time before he goes home for a few months. (your shun has been annihilating me badly the last few matches /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

Speaking for myself I thought I played pretty well on Saturday for the most part, I didn't do so well against Shaun and Li, but they were the 2 best players on the day. It's been an interesting weekend, I've visibly noticed people adapting to how I attack at times so I have to work on mix-ups a lot more. I have some ideas, which keeps it interesting for now /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Pretty clear that Shaun was the overall best player. Couldn't stand his back-stepping Jacky but I did at least sabaki him silly. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Andy had a dangerous Kage but thinking back I didn't actually play that many matches with you. Don't know what Graeme did to his Lei Fei but I was completed ownzed.
Oh yeah, I'm free this Wednesday so a little bit more VF shouldn't hurt. A special thanks to Steven for hosting and putting up with us all day.

    Re: Edinburgh

I thought your Lei was very impressive on Saturday, you trashed me 3-1 in the tournament and I noticed you holding your own against Andy and Shaun a few times. Anthony was also playing very well I thought, lots of sabakis and good mix-ups made it very hard to attack or defend against his Vanessa.

For my own part I played shockingly, and I put it down to not reacting to correctly to close quarters low-punch spamming and punch-throw tactics. I find these situations very hard to react against and I'd say I lost most of my matches this way. A guaranteed way to beat me is simply move in and spam low-punch, high-punch mixes....my brain will simply freeze /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Sad but true....

No doubt Shaun will suggest I change character but I doubt it will make any difference until I can deal with these basic set-ups.

Sorry mate, my flight is 12:40PM /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Had lots of fun on Saturday, thanks a lot to Steven for hosting it and to everyone for come and play. I'm statisfied with the 2nd place in the tournament, although I had some chances to win the final, Shaun with his Jacky was the better player on that day.

My Lau was owned by Graeme and Andy badly, but the 8-0 run against Shaun's Jeffry restored my confidence in him/versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The past year with you guys has been great experience for me. My life would be much more boring without our VF gatherings and meetings. I'm very looking forward to come back and meet you guys again /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

    THE RESULTS

Here are the results from our meeting.

we did a league, in which every fighter played everyone else, one point for a win, none for a loss.

after the league, 1st place plays 4th place, and 2nd place playes 3rd place, the winners go through to the finals, the losers play in the third place playoffs.

    FIGHTERS SCORE WINNER
    Elite V Faded (3-1) Elite
    Elite V Maximum (3-1) Elite
    Elite V Ev2 (1-3) Ev2
    Elite V MrDark (3-0) Elite
    Elite V LiMeng (3-2) Elite
    Elite V Stroppa (3-2) Elite

    Ev2 V Faded (3-2) Ev2
    Ev2 V Maximum (3-1) Ev2
    Ev2 V MrDark (3-0) Ev2
    Ev2 V LiMeng (3-0) Ev2
    Ev2 V Stroppa (3-0) Ev2

    Faded V Maximum (3-1) Faded
    Faded V LiMeng (1-3) LiMeng
    Faded V Stroppa (3-2) Faded
    Faded V MrDark (3-1) Faded

    Maximum V LiMeng (0-3) LiMeng
    Maximum V Stroppa (0-3) Stroppa
    Maximum V MrDark (1-3) MrDark

    MrDark V Stroppa (0-3) Stroppa
    MrDark V LiMeng (3-2) MrDark

    Stroppa V LiMeng (3-2) LiMeng

so after the league, the table looked like this:

    Position Fighter Points

    1st Ev2 6
    2nd Elite 5
    3rd LiMeng 3
    4th Faded 3
    5th Stroppa 2
    6th MrDark 2
    7th Maximum 0

    SEMI-FINALS

    Elite V LiMeng (2-3) LiMeng
    Ev2 V Faded (3-0) Ev2

    THIRD PLACE PLAY-OFFS

    Faded V Elite (3-1) Faded

    FINALS

    Ev2 V LiMeng (3-2) Ev2

SO AFTER THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT, THE FINAL STANDINGS ARE:

    1ST EV2
    2ND LIMENG
    3RD FADED

    4th Elite
    5th Stroppa
    6th MrDark
    7th Maximum

    The Aftermath.......

    ok, my views.

thanks to all the guys will the compliments, although i was the best on the day, i found EVERYONE a tough opponent, and the fights could easily have gone a different way.
shame that Li has to leave, he is definately one of the best guys you have, and i find him the hardest person to beat, out of all the people that i have played, well done man! (though when you said that your Lau owned Andy, this isn't true, i saw plenty of matches when you were losing all three rounds against him when you used Lau, plus he told me that he finds Lau much easier to beat than your Shun, i have to agree there, your Shun is an ugly mother fucker to fight, and you use him so well.(8-0 against Jeff, i have no excuses other than your Shun is FAR FAR FAR better than my Jeff)).

    Andy:
4th place does not represent how well you played, most of the time you were beating everyone. (although you and I never played except for the tournament, so i don't know if my victory over you in the league would have been an accurate measurement of how well i was playing in accordance to how well you were playing, but as this is the only thing we have to go on, i guess we will have to say that i did better. (though people are entitled to think differently).

    Ryan:
    MUCH IMPROVEMENT!
since we have started playing, you have improved every time. first there was Leeds, in which i totally trounced you every fight, then there was Scotland the first time, fights usually ended 5-1 in my favour, this time you were more than a match for me, many times we would end up on the last round of a first to five, most of them ending 5-4 to me, so i think improvement is obvious.

    Li:
what to say, your Shun is, as always, the hardest person to beat. (though in the tournament you lost to me (3-0), i think that you must not have been concentrating, because you played much less intense than when we met in the finals.)
hope you get home safely, and i can't wait till you get back so that i can throttle the life out of your Shun!

    Anthony:
some improvement. i learnt that you once played a very amateur character (Lau or Sarah, someone much easier to use) but that you chose Vanessa as a secondry character, and i was told you never went back, so much respect there for being consistant.
i really like the way you play Vanessa, you use some seriously classy moves, and when you win a round, you make your opponent look like a total amateur!
i think you play the most stylish game out of all of us, well done, keep playing and i think you could become VERY good.

    Graeme:
    ?????????????????????????
did you go to some sort of Lei Fei training school since last we met?
although i didn't find you that hard to beat, i could see that you have improved tenfold, and the fact that you managed to constantly beat Andy (except in the league, but even then the fight went to the last round of the last fight, and even down to the last hit! so close.....), shows that you are made of the right stuff.

    Steven:
although you didn't do to well, i really like playing you, as you are quite good with Lion, and you give me some much needed and some very good quality experience against him. i think that your main problem is that you do not understand the game enough, like you said, when in close quarters range, you get beat out by Low/Mid/High punch tactics. the best way for you to improve in this area is to as Chris for all the frame data and advice for stuff like "when low punch hits me, what can i do". i ask him for help all the time, and he know exactly what he is talking about. (and if he doesnt know the answer (very unlikely) then he will find out and tell you the next day!)
also, play Jeff for a while, i think that he suits your style much more than Lion, as i have noticed that you prefer to wait for your chance to attack, and then take it, rather than use lots of pokes, and when needing high damage, having to work for it. with Jeff, although defense is very hard, and he is very slow and very throw counterable, he has such huge damage potential, that one float start that lands will give you at least 70 damage. (plus the fact that he is throw counterable means that you will start to input throw escapes more, so this is a good way to improve your throw escaping abillities. it worked for me.)

overall i think that it was a good session, thanks for Steven for letting us use your flat, it is really comfortable (and an extra thanks for letting me sleep over and making me a Bacon Butty). i think i am really going to need to practice if i am going to maintain superiority over Ryan, because he seems to get better every time, and if i don't improve, i might be on the recieving end of all those five-nil's.

    Re: The Aftermath.......

Aoi v Jacky is actually a good match since Yin-Yang inashis most of Jackys high-mid bullshit away /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jacky is very offensive char and Aoi uses chars attacks/momentum against themselves so the pairing is often good to watch (and the mind games can be hilarious).
