I'd advise sticking with Lei. He practically a new character for you, and while he's coming along nicely. He still needs a lot of work.

It's quite sad that I can remember splinter's/his owner's name was Hamato Yoshi for no real reason isn't it?

I remember the yoshi part but the hamato I would never have got. I only remember the yoshi part because I learnt it round about the same time Mario World came out with wee Yoshi in it.

But whatever...heroes in a half shell and all that.

I think this thread will grow to be the fattest thread on this board in 1 month /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif, if this 20post/day rate continues./versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

    They're turtle shaped ya bam.

Thank you for luring me into discussing the finer points of tmnt on a public forum.

I'm going to go practice some VF now.

I rated the thread 5 stars already.

I thought the irrelevant chit-chat was worth it.

Still can't twist your arm for tomorrow? /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You know, if I was a local looking for some vf competition. I think this thread would do a fantastic job of scaring me away.

*cough*...both TMNT fans when you were younger I take it?....bless /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On the topic of new characters, I had a wee practice session on Evo last week and played about with Akira. Finally managed to do his knee, though not consistently. I actually found him pretty easy to get to grips with and had a decent run through Arcade mode with him.

Clearly, that's no indciation of how I'd fare with him against the Edinburgh massive ( /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), but would be cool trying him out against Faded's Akira.

I think this is the first time I've ever tried using one of the heavier characters in VF. I tend to have this weird empathy with the light-weights and pokers.

Oh, and rapidly moving off topic again, I finally got F-Zero for Gamecube. The insane speed and old-school techno makes me........content. Great game.

Strangely I'm quite the opposite. These past few weeks I've been plaing around with what you might call the faster characters.

To be honest I don't know if you could call them the faster character so much as those with decent options for continued offense. I'm finding it such a strange transition as I'm so used to throwing out basically one move at a time with goh, akira and jeff. I've never really used a character with a PPP..etc string before. So most of the time I totally forget the option is there.

As for Akira, good luck with him. It would be nice to see someone else playing him now that I have all but dropped him. Suppose I could dig him out for some mirror matches though. Only if we have some Aoi ones as well though.

Akira actually has a ton of cute stuff that I think you might appreciate.

Like if you sabaki a low punch with [4]+[G][P][K](timing is just like a reversal) you can land a free yoho([3][3][P]). It's a fun one to practice, just go to free training set the opponent to guard all and then low punch under counter attacks. Attack with a low punch or something, hit the sabaki, yoho them in the stumble animation. Enjoy your free combo just for predicting a low punch.

Akira has so many cute little sequences like this that just make him a joy to play. I wish I wasn't so bored of him sometmes.

I know what you mean and was thinking along the same lines when I was using Akira. With him you have this arsenal of big hits that do allot of damage but are easily countered if you fuck-up. I actually found this quite refreshing as it does cut down your options in a fight and allows you to concentrate more on your opponents offense.

With some of the light-weights, who have tons of pokes, combos and chains, you can find yourself overwhelmed by the options available to you and unable to decide on the correct response to a particular situation. This can make you loose focus on what your opponent is up to.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons why i think everyone should try and learn one of the more sluggish characters at some point. I think it teaches you a lot of things about the game.

Kind of unrelated but that's something I alays liked about Akira. He really doesn't have any useless moves.

    Unfortunately Friday's not happening /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I just can't get anyone to cover my shift so...

    my bad /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'll hopefully try to get a big session organised before the end of this month, I really can't promise anything though.

Unless any of you guys have ideas?

Anyway, I'll see Faded and Herr Dark tomorrow.

That's suckage, but hardly your fault.

You know you're all welcome to play here but let's face it. Two people crammed in this room borders on the uncomfortable /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh well shit happens I guess. I'm going to set off a bit early today and have a wander round the shops see if I can't find anything to buy.
