Carlos, maybe you should consider starting weekly VF5 sessions at Stony. A good amount of people make it to the DR sessions on Fridays. Maybe you can try to get something going on Saturdays/Sundays.

Or if we can get another TV in there, it can done on Fridays right next to the DR session so we know they'll be a good amount of people everytime. We can also convert some/most/all of the Tekken players for more recruits. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

i think that is the key in general. tekken players really need to see the game being played. then they will be like....ohhhhh , that looks nice....let me give that a try. the selling point is telling them that playing vf is like cross training for tekken (it can only improve your video game skills all around).

converting people over to vf5 will require some missionary work. but we wont spread diseases, or destroy and ruin any civilizations like other examples of missionary work have done throughout history

Good games guys. Nice session we had if i do say so myself. Id be down for a SB weekend session thing. I just really hope this game gets played more. Like carlos said too, its good that we all try and use different guys. This way when we fight them we arent left in the dark. I really think im going to go to evo east for this game so i gotta start doing my homework!

Yeah, a lot of the Tekken players just ignore the talk and praise of VF5. "Seeing is believing" is the method to follow here. Spreading diseases would be dirty like the cheap Ring Out I got against Joe. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Dude, the Evo Finals start on my B-day! (yep, August 24th) I must be there! I'll get my job back in April, so hopefully I can gather enough money to make it to the East Qualifier too. If not, I'll definately save enough to get to the Finals. If anyone wants to share a hotel or something, let's talk.

I'm gonna tear it up with my Sarah. I did pretty good on my first day of VF5. Who knows how much I can improve within the months. Especially once I actually learn her VF5 version.

Hmm... Why is MvC2 being played on Dreamcast instead of say... Arcade or PS2?

What's so bad about T. Hawk's and Zangief's stages in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo?

(I'm looking at this page, by the way)

Anyways, I'm gonna join the Shoryuken forums to chat up about Evo some more.

Firts and formost, Evo is a console tournament. They pick fighting games of the home release that most closely follows the arcade version.

Dreamcast version of MVC2 is a 99% port of the arcade version. The PS2 and Xbox ports are considered poor ports.

In the emulated port of ST in CCC2, it has been documented that T.Hawk's and Zangef's stage causes some slowdown.

Hope to see you at Evo East, I will most likely be there. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

I am certainly going ot the east coast evo. Me and a few of my freinds are going to go for this and 3s. Then in june, Im going to try and get to the SBO qualifier at TGS for 3s. I know teh commp is going to be fierce at both tournys. Im going to start practicing a lot.

Good luck, man. I've seen some ridiculous 3s fight vids. It gets mean out there.

Depending on how much the entry fee is for each game, I may be tempted to try them all except Smash and Guilty Gear. In a random rant, they should replace Smash with DOA4 because Smash isn't a fighting game despite common misbelief. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Hey Russ, check out this vid of Japanese pros playing Pai Vs Sarah. Some great tips on how we can play each other. Carlos, I want that Sarah costume! Let me know if you ever figure out how to get it.

I see. Why would Capcom do that? Well, nevertheless... What's with the hate against the arcade? If Evo officials want a version that most closely follows the arcade, they should play the arcade version. I get they need a ton of stations, but the finals at least could be played on arcades or something. Well, doesn't matter much to me but just an interesting thought.

Wow... this port is on the PS2 and Capcom manages to make it slowdown... It's like they had to go out of their way to accomplish that.

Well anyways... Hopefully I will make it to Evo East and we'll meet. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gifd <-- Had to manually make a "thumbs up" icon. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

I'm hoping we can meet sooner than that. Evo East is at the end of May. Technically we live close enough to each other to plan a meetup within that time. I figure I will take the train trip into LI at some point in the near future to face you guys.

I'm really happy there is a VF scene growing in LI. Keep it up. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Sure man. If we can get these weekly VF sessions going, you can join one. (Location of Stony Brook so you can plan) Try to bring others with you too.

And then someday... >_> ... we should try to do some kind of NY vs LI team tourney. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ya! And I can like... represent Virginia in the NY vs. LI tournament...

    ...

Anyway, I don't know how the hell I'm going to pick up VF5 without ever having touched it or anything. I'll have to play it on my own time and play with all the characters, but that can take up to 2-4 hours. I don't think anyone is going to let me use a PS3 for that long as I do the same shit over and over again. I'm a very tedious man.

I'll just have to watch and learn that way ^.^

I am well aware of the 3s comp. I played in cali at FFA last year and i always got to chinatown to play. I know what im up against in 3s, but im not so sure what id be up against in vf. I just want to do decent. Im not asking to win anything, just do good in these 2 games.

To compare what to except for VF, it seems to be opposite 3s. 3s will easily be the most popular, where as it seems VF5 is looking to be the least populated tourney. But if Japanese players come over, the comp could be just as fierce as 3s.

Jeff, I would say just play 1 match with all the chars. That won't take long and it should be enough for you to figure out which one you're most interested in. Then take the char through Command Training once. ^_~ Then you'd be ready to rep Virginia in a NY tourney. Talk about getting stabbed in a shootout...

By the way, I started a VF5 thread at the "Evo forums". Ain't my Avatar purty? Too bad I can't fit all of "Long Island Lili/Sarah" for the custom title. Back to the thread... Sabin posted.

    What'cha talking about, fighter?

ur supposed to click "Topic Options" and then "Add this thread to my Watched Topics". /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Unless you were talking about the thread I started on Shoryuken. I try to keep that thread bumped like crazy.

    Random trivial question:

In previous VFs, everyone starts with their right foot forward. Except for Brad, who stangely started with left foot forward. (at least Evo. Don't know about FT) Now in VF5, everyone starts with left foot. What about Brad? (didn't pay attention when I was at the session. "Presenting The Brad Show" distracted me. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif )

By the way, check out these tutorial vids about some basics you may have missed.

i agree. its hard to get people to play this game. most people may not have a ps3 or wont give this game the time that it requires to actually get good and understand it.

I'm telling you, we have to invade the weekly DR Stony sessions. (actually, are they still doing that?)

Well, when I get my PS3 (hopefully by the end of April) I'll start up weekly sessions and monthly tourneys and eventually grow the communitiy.

Jeff, you are coming this weekend, right? Don't forget to play VF5!

By the way, over on SRK, there's a Long Island thread. Mostly for 2D fighters, but new people to meet nevertheless. Joe, you should check out this thread because there will be 3s and MvC2 tourneys this Saturday. (here in Hempstead)

And that VF thread I started there is starting to pick up.

I should rephrase that. They are tutorial vids about the basics of the new things in VF5. The new style of bounce combo, offensive and defensive movement, and of course Clash. Very helpful info.
